Megatron and his wild hair

Two requests for the price of one, a few pages from Megatron: Origins #2, including the scene that he takes his helmet off.
As a little bit of background, he was part of a miner riot in the previous issue and went underground.  Now he's part of an arena-fighting league that's very Roman.

New Avengers v. Transformers: Cybertronians Could Totally Take Magneto, Shut Up
so yeah, the New Avengers/Transformers crossover.

basic plot: there's about to be a war going down between Symkaria (yes, a silver-haired lady shows up for a panel or two) and Latveria. SHIELD, detecting a mysterious structure in the area, sends in the Avengers to figure out what's going on.

(addendum: those whose computers tend to choke on image-heavy posts, the comments warn me that you might want to beware.)

And surprisingly, this one's only partly on Doom's head.  )

The Broken Mirror, or: They Had To Do A Mirrorverse Eventually
yup, Transformers got a Mirrorverse, courtesy of Transformers Timelines #3 and Botcon 2008.

and it's a fun, if not verbose, place.

As seen through the eyes of Classics-continuity Cliffjumper, though... it's strange.  )

Now THIS is how you show Transformers fighting Mr Bay...
Having, for reasons I'm not sure I quite believe, subjected myself to the horrors of "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen" (Or "Shia LeBeouf and the Hardware Mastur-Bay-tion") I felt I had to soothe my frayed nerves with some decent Transformers....

So this comes from the UK comic - Transformers Weekly #82, way back in October 1986.

From left to right, this happy little crew are Impactor, Rack'n'Ruin, Topspin, Whirl, Roadbuster and Twintwist (Only Rack'n'Ruin and Impactor are not actual toys in the TF line). The components strewn around them appear to be bits of Blitzwing, the Deception triplechager tank/jet/robot. (Oh, and yes, "get wrecked" had the same other meaning of "getting drunk" back in 1986 as it does now) These are NOT A-list Transformers... they are barely D-List Transformers, they are the Transformers equivalent of PAD's X-Factor cast, wannabe's and never were's. NONE of this crew ever showed up in the cartoon for example.

Before we begin I might drawn your attention to the colouring here, it really is rather lovely, John Burns taking full advantage of the different printing technique that the UK Weekly could use.

The Wreckers fight hard... REALLY hard... as we see in this introduction to the team as they launch a sneak attack with their feared battle cry of...

One perfect moment: Optimus Prime
Hey there. First post on the new SD. JUst wanted to get this one in before the week is over.

From "Transformers: Stormbringer #4" by Simon Furman and Don Figueroa. Thunderwing, a massive robot gone crazy after experimenting on himself with a bio-grafting techinque, is rampaging on Cybertron and the Decepticons are this close to just blow up the whole planet just to be done with it. Enter OP:

Megatron's Homages and Mark Twain's Awesomages
so, yeah, remember that All Hail Megatron Apocalypse Comics variant cover where Megatron homaged the Killing Joke?

Spotlight: Mirage
Spotlight: Mirage is, quite literally, the first comic book I ever bought. I thought it would be a fitting first post to S_D, too.

Until August 16th, 2008, I had subsisted on old issues and TPBs of my father's, leading me to have read most of Sandman when I was twelve, been left on a cliffhanger in Elfquest for five years, and have most of the Superhero comics I could get my paws on being Superman (usually The Death Of) and Batman. A few months before that lovely day, I had been introduced to Transformers through TFA, and had been working through the various animated series and diving into the wiki as often as I could.

And, on the 16th, I got paid for a commission I'd done for my mother, in the form of my first TF toys and this comic.

Best choice I ever made. (Until I went back a couple months later and picked up some awesome Marvel issues. Goldbug! Blaster! :D )

I encourage anyone with even a vague interest in Transformers to look up this comic. It's an interesting character study, and a definite stand-alone, unlike most of the Spotlights (though a lot of them are pretty damn shiny), a good choice for anyone who likes a bit of trippiness and depressing in their comics.
