New Avengers v. Transformers: Cybertronians Could Totally Take Magneto, Shut Up
so yeah, the New Avengers/Transformers crossover.

basic plot: there's about to be a war going down between Symkaria (yes, a silver-haired lady shows up for a panel or two) and Latveria. SHIELD, detecting a mysterious structure in the area, sends in the Avengers to figure out what's going on.

(addendum: those whose computers tend to choke on image-heavy posts, the comments warn me that you might want to beware.)

So the New Avengers break into the mysterious structure, meaning that they have to contend with its defenses.

defenses whose targeting systems also have another purpose:

the Avengers leave, deciding to call in Falcon and Ms. Marvel as backup; they're a little snippy at each other though.

The Autobots, who're watching all this, exposit that this sort of native manipulation (these Decepticons being more predisposed to stealth) is an old Decepticon tactic... so naturally, they must be stop'd.

meanwhile, spider-man wakes up...

the device being a von Doom invention, of all things.

speaking of the bad doctor, he shows up in the midst of the requisite team-up named parties throwdown, defusing it rather amusingly (and this fight was already pretty amusing, what with Carol vs. Car and Jazz pinning Wolverine under himself):

now there's an excellent out of context image, right there.

anyhow, Doom drops some exposition:

meanwhile, Megatron drops his own exposition on Spider-Man and is kind of a dick to the new guy:

well, I can see why you wouldn't trust a halfway-intelligent jet after Starscream, Megatron. also, I love that the Decepticons have encountered supernormal abilities before. I'm not sure, however, about the validity of that technobabble.

so the avengers and the autobots team up, doom heads off to symkaria to broker his own peace, and the decepticons prove a deadly threat with their spider-man-enhanced powers...

until a surprise guest shows up to save the day!

and captain america proves that he has mastered the amazingly corny one-liner:

so some Autobots and Luke Cage rush the structure to seize the psycho prism, but are eventually overpowered by Megatron.

meanwhile, Iron Man's proving a great help:

iron man gets a recharge from the autobots; however, it's all for naught when:

Doom. Well, saw that coming.

rather amusingly, the Autobots and Avengers merely renew the attack, which leads to Megatron having something of an overreaction:

... you... you didn't see this coming, Megatron? really?

so, anyhow, Megatron goes out to battle the Avengers/Autobots himself.

(and it's at this point that we realize that there's no way to fit this into IDW continuity. well, there's no way to do that for the GI Joe crosses, so whatevs. on a plus note, this is where it really picks up.)

meanwhile, Spider-Man finally breaks out:

yes, doctor, and I suppose Megatron jolting you was all accordion to plan.

outside, giant Iron Man takes the first round with Megatron:

yeah, not working out for Tony.

amusingly, Megatron confirms the kill by decapitating the Iron Mech- because he thinks Tony's dumb enough to keep the cockpit in the neck, I guess.

Wolverine, meanwhile, takes Spider-Man's place as energon donor for the Autobots, which enables the Autobots to stand on an even footing with the 'Cons.

As for the psycho prism?

... wow, Doom. how pointlessly introspective.

anyhow, the 'cons are routed, doom vanishes amidst the debris, and Megatron suffers a humilating takedown before warping out:

and that's it!

well, no, wait, this is it:

Ramjet would go on to a proud career of blowing up Constructicons and getting decapitated by Megatron.

I was less than impressed by this, but for some reason I went in expecting more... iconic versions of the characters. I read them all, but never really liked IDW's take on the Decepticons, so the manipulations just didn't appeal.

For some reason I love the fact that Iron-Man is immediately thinking about how to build an EVEN BIGGER giant robot.

Where is Starscream, by the way? I've read Transformers comics here and there but I fail at following any kind of continuity (and the last time I tried the publisher went bankrupt in the middle of a storyline sdklkasjdfklaslk Dreamwave). So many robots, so hard to keep a track of, especially when I'm more used to Transformers Animated.

But I don't know if going after Magneto would be the smartest course of action for giant robots made out of metal...

worse comes to worse, I figure they could wank some NON-FERROUS ALLOYS shit. removes that particular easy way out, while still making him a hell of a fight because, you know, fundamental force manipulation.

as for Starscream this 'time round: he was running the Earth cell before Megatron showed up. He had a plan, you see, to harvest an energon variant to power himself up so that he could slag Megatron.

Megatron responded with a point-blank fusion cannon shot. And that's where he is as of this moment, with a big hole in him.

Ah yes, I've read that one, just didn't realize that this happens after it. It's so weird seeing Megatron give Stascream serious punishment anyway, since most of the time he just can't seem to be bothered. By now I figure he must get migraine (ignoring the physical here) just from hearing Starscream's name.

I was like, "Where's my bb Starscream?" In the cartoon it was uncomfortably lulz, "Megatron, wait! Please!"

How can they just leave out Ramjet's freaking conehead like that? He's a conehead! He needs a cone for a head! Did the artist only look at the toy or what?

Most of the Transformers fandom did not enjoy this crossover. I'd always wanted to see scans from it though due to well...what I mentioned above. He's kind of a favorite of mine ever since he went back in time and headbutted a knight. Awesome.

What's the page count for these issues (assuming the scans are from more than one issue)? It looks like you've got ten from one and fifteen from another by my count.

anyone have scans of the old transformers/marvel crossover? I think it has spider-man in his black suit, although don't know whether it's just black cloth or symbiote suit
