I have been reading Earth literature lately, mostly romances. I am still not sure how human mating rituals work. Maybe someone can help me understand?

I feel like there is a lot of pain described, but people also get pleasure from it? Is this normal? And why are there so many words for the male penis? So many descriptors! It does make it hard to follow the story.

Do humans go into heat or do they mate this much normally?

Yeah. Except most of the time it's not as magically perfect as it is in romance novels. Or porn.
