WHO: Legolas, Spike, Mercy Thompson, Gregory House (posting order set)
WHAT: Group activities - Kayaking/Canoeing
WHEN: Day 30, late morning
WHERE: The lake
RATING: PG?
STATUS: Incomplete

As always, Legolas was wide awake when the note came. Of course, since he never truly slept, this wasn't much of a surprise. He jumped off the couch he had been resting on and ran to the door. It had become a bit of a game to him, to see if he could get there fast enough to catch the golem in the act of pinning the note to his door. He had yet to do it, and today was no exception. By the time he got there, the thing was long gone. No trace was left of it, except of course the note.

It was no surprise to him what it said, and he even knew what one of the things was that he was supposed to be doing. The elves made wonderful canoes, though of course he'd never even remotely heard of kayaks. He grinned broadly, beyond pleased by the summons. He really liked meeting new people, and he'd met several through activities such as this. Of course, not all of them were still on Mirage, but he chose not to think of that.

A quick shower later, he dressed himself in his typical tunic and leggings. His sharp silver knives he kept in their place, but the bow he regretfully left behind. Just like when he'd gone white river rafting, he knew the weapon would be useless with all the water splashing around. He couldn't help but feel a bit naked without it, though, as he stepped out the door for breakfast.

It wasn't long before he was at the appointed spot by the shore of the lake. There were several boats around, and he looked at the curiously. They didn't seem to be made out of wood, but rather some strange substance he'd never seen before. Thoughtfully, he went over and tapped on it. The sound made him laugh. Then, he stood back and waited, hoping others would come soon.

Spike frowned as he opened his door scowling down the corridor. He'd just been heading to bed after making the room his own, white washing the windows so no stray sunlight could get him when he'd heard footsteps, nearly silent but there. He glared up and down the corridor, seeing no one, but a note. It was beckoning him to some group pow wow activity, he snorted. Kayaking/Canoeing? Didn't they see the blaring sunlight? He sighed, noting it's location, he might make it there without becoming dust. He frowned, just to check it out of course.

After a pint of blood, which was pigs blood oddly he frowned, before grabbing a few blankets off the bed. This place better be worth it. He posed in the shade of the door, making sure he was completely covered by the blankets as he dashed for the boat house, which wasn't too far, being careful of his footing, and readjusting his blankets if anything smoked. He made it to the shadow of the boat house, and watched some tall blonde guy. He tapped the boat and laughed, he cocked his eyebrow watching him from the shadows, clocking his steady heart beat, and his scent, which was different to normal humans silently. He knew other people would be coming too, so he decided to wait it out and see who'd arrive, the boathouse gave him plenty of shade and he had his blankets.

Mercy had got through the first day of being on the planet, if it wasn't for the distraction of the snow ball fight she probably would have been plotting her escape. Noticing a rustling at the door, apparently her presence had been summoned. “If you can't escape em, beat em at their own games!” She laughed talking to her cat.

On the path to the lake Mercy slipped her sunglasses on her face then walked over to the interesting looking man with the pointy ears and long blond hair. “Lovely day for races.” She smirked wide eying him over she had a hunch he wasn't human but kept it too herself. “Names Mercy.” She offered out a hand. “I haven't been on a lake in years.” She paused sniffing the air “And excuse me for a moment please, I think we are being watched.”

Turning around she made way to the boathouse, parts of her missed her vampire friend so one here on the planet could at least at any rate be entertaining. “You're up awfully early, don't you think?” She called to the shadows and smiled. “I'd still be in bed too but might as well make the best of being here.” She nodded. “Do you have a name shadow, well besides toasted marshmallow if you lose the blanket.” she laughed, vampires as she knew them had odd humor.

Greg had just settled into his room, tossing his backpack on the bed and glaring at the almost perfect, if somewhat larger, replica of his bedroom at home. Large enough to fit a grand piano in with plenty of room to spare in fact. It made him suspicious and irritated. As he glared around the room, he heard a noise outside his door. He almost ignored it but then decided he was in the mood to verbal destroy whoever it was outside and went and opened the door.

There was no one outside but there was a note pinned to the door. He pulled it off and read it, snorting derisively. "I don't think so," he said, screwing up the note and tossing it down the corridor before slamming the door shut again. He went back to glaring at the room before limping over to the piano and staring down at it for a moment. He opened the cover over the keyboard and gently pressed a few keys. It was perfectly in tune and had a beautiful tone. In fact it was the perfect piano, even better than the one he had at home and that was a truly superb instrument.

A knock came at the door and he rolled his eyes, his hand tightening around his cane as he limped to the door and yanked it open. Outside was one the strange golems that he'd seen when he arrived. "What?" he demanded.

The golem held out a note. Greg snatched it and saw it was the same as the one that had been pinned to his door with the added bonus of a line warning him that if he refused, the golem would take him down to the lake. Greg stared down at the note then back at the golem, weighing the possibility of truth in the note and whether he really wanted that sort of blow to his dignity.

"I don't do sports," he snapped at the golem, bitterness and anger creeping into his voice. He used to do sports. he didn't do them anymore. The golem didn't answer, just stared at him then pointed to the note.

Greg's face twisted in a mix of fury, humiliation and pain then he shoved the note at the golem. The stone man made no attempt to catch the note and it fluttered to the floor.

"Fine. I'm going," Greg snarled and he limped down the corridor and made his way outside. He slowed a little when he got outside and hit the uneven ground but he eventually made his way to the lake. He saw that there were others there before him and he kept his gaze on them instead of looking at the kayaks and canoes on the shore.

"Oh, joy," he said mockingly. "Do we get to sit around a campfire, eat smores and sing Kumbayah as well?"

When the vampire came, Legolas raised his head and looked around. Even his sharp eyes couldn't quite see where he was, but he could tell something was there. Something that wasn't alive. But he didn't get the same sense from the being as he did from the Nazgul, and he couldn't quite figure it out... puzzled, he looked around, sharp elven eyes combing the landscape for something that would equate for the strange feeling he was getting.

Mercy's arrival distracted him, however, and he took her hand. It was a strange human custom, the handshake, but he'd done it quite often over the last little while. He was more than comfortable with it. "Lady Mercy..." He released the handshake and then bowed to her formally. "I am Prince Legolas of Mirkwood, may the Valar smile on our meeting." After, he looked at her curiously as she spoke to nothing... or perhaps the presence he had felt earlier.

"Hold, my Lady Mercy." He held up a cautioning hand, seeing far in the distance another figure approaching. "We have more company, how wonderful." Elven eyes are very good, and he saw more details from farther way than would normally be possible. "He seems to have some sort of injury, he is limping."

When the male approached, Legolas bowed to him as well. "I do not know what these things are of which you speak... except for campfires. Of those I know much. I do enjoy singing, though I do not know Kumbayah. Would you teach it to me?" He paused and then continued on curiously. "What is a smore?"

But apparently conversation time was somewhat over, because a golem was coming up and turning two of the canoes over. "How shall we do this? Do we wish to take one of the bigger boats out together? Does anyone else here have much experience with boating?" He, of course, did. He looked at them all curiously.

Spike snorted as this human female came up and introduced herself to the guy with pointy ears. He listened to them speak, his voice was soft and smooth, very sensual, he watched them carefully, lighting a cigarette up as she turned to him, stepping towards the sunlight a little more, so he would be able to be seen by anyone with good eyesight. He smiled to this Mercy girl as she asked his name, along with a marshmallow gag.

He snorted. "Nice to meet ya. Name 's Spike love.." He stepped as close to the lake as he could, looking with a little longing at the water. He breathed in their scents as another human approached, limping slightly, the girl smelled like canine slightly he noted. The tall blonde one smelt of forests and fresh air, this new one, well he seemed to be just a grouchy human, with a faint medical smell about him, like he spent enough time around a hospital to pick up it's smell.

"Well Mirkwood I think he's being sarcastic about the campfire thing.." He rolled his eyes, the poor bloke was too easy. "..and I hope they don't want us to do the whole pow wow thing, 'cos then I'll be blowing this thing off." He smiled curtly at them. Before frowning at the golem creature, it smelled odd, he looked at the boats.

"I don't know how you lot are working this, but I guess I'll have to sit this one out else I'll be blowing away in the wind. Shame that.." He rolled his eyes before happily drawing on his cigarette in the shadows, blanket slung round his shoulders, clearly not at all sad about not having to canoe.

She looked around at the other's then back to Spike. “Doesn't this all seem like a bad joke to you an elf, a walker a vampire and a cripple all rowed merrily down the stream?” Mercy couldn't help herself laughing and then she had an idea. She turned and looked up into the air.

“Planet! Can you please change the color of the sky and block the sun so our Vampire will not fry? Please!” She shouted and as soon as she was done the clouds came together as the sky turned into a tinted shade of deep purple blocking the suns rays from touching the earth but left it light enough to see. “It's safe to lose the blanket.” She nodded at him then walked back over with the others.

“My lord Legolas, would you please join me in my boat and we shall take the waters together as a team?” She bowed her head to him. “It would bring me great pleasure, besides I have a knack for beating vampires at all sorts of games.” Mercy cracked her knuckles then eyed the boat and the other two grumpy looking men. "I grew up on a ranch so I've done this kind of thing a lot."

She was always competitive and into sports, especially if there were a bunch of men involved she liked to kick ass and take names. Mercy had proved on several occasions she had enough guts to hang with the men. “Come on now guys don't be spoiled sports we'll just race around the blue markers and back, unless that is you two grumps are scared of losing to a woman and an elf.”

She looked to Legolas with a low voice. “No harm intend, I just want to get them going." She grinned. "Help me get this into the water? Just fallow my lead and I'll show you what to do. Cool?”

Greg shot the overly pretty man a look that spoke volumes, mostly things along the lines of 'are you really that stupid?' and 'I see that all the things they say about blonds are true'. He then dismissed the man as not worth the effort and peered over in the direction the woman had come from. The very English voice that emerged from the shadows was far more interesting than either of the other two, especially when the voice said something about blowing in the wind.

His eyes narrowed when the woman called the man in the shadows a vampire and his curiosity was caught. He didn't even object to the woman calling him a cripple. It was what he was after all. "Vampire, eh? That for real or are you just one of those wanna-be goths who end up in my clinic because they've tried to bite each other and ended up with a really neat infection." He glanced over at the other two and smirked. "The human mouth is a filthy place."

He glanced up when the woman asked for the sky to cloud over and made a mental note of that. He might have to see exactly how far he could go in asking for thing. A smirk floated across his face. That could be fun.

He then gave the woman a withering glare. "Enjoy yourselves," he said dismissively as he leaned on his cane. "I am secure enough in my masculinity to not give a damn about winning races." He glanced over at the supposed vampire and gave him a speculative look. He had a snide snarkiness that Greg approved of. "I say we adjourn to the bar and have a few drinks and let the sporty types drown themselves to their heart's content."

Legolas shrugged slightly at Spike's comment. "We do not have such things on Middle Earth." But his voice was amused. In his mind, the way he was being treated said more about them than him, and he found the whole thing fascinating. "I would not try to leave, if I were you." The elf pointed as a golem was seen walking slowly up to them, having already turned over their canoes. "I rather think he will be inclined to make you stay."

With that, he walked over to Mercy and bowed deeply to her. "My Lady Mercy, I am at your disposal." He glanced up as the sky obligingly darkened. "It would seem, my Lord Vampire, that you are in luck. You shall take that boat with our new friend, here." He bowed ironically to the man with the cane.

"Fear not, Lady Mercy. I am more than proficient with how these boats work. Elves have a natural love for the water. You will not have to lead me." He walked over to the boat, and with a surprising strength in one so slender, picked it up and set it in the water. He courteously held it steady for Mercy to get in.

"Come on, my friends. Or I think that our stony friend here will have something to say about it." He was speaking to the vampire and the doctor. "We are, after all, supposed to be enjoying ourselves." With a mischievious grin that he was fairly sure would annoy the other men to no end, he jumped into the boat with a fluid, natural sort of grace.

He smiled at the canine smelling woman. Slowly extending his hand out of the shadow, and into where they're had been sunlight and now was some odd twilight. No fire, burning or dusting. "Well thats something pet.. thanks.." he smiled, dropping his blankets happily. He looked at the human head cocked as he mentioned teenagers playing at vampires.

He was at the man's side in a moment, switching faces. Fangs extending, bones shifting in his face and eyes turning golden as stared at the other man. "People I bite don't go to clinics, they go to graves.." He extended his arms out and swayed back, as if he was starting a fight. "I'm the real deal. Don't you worry about what nasty things are in your mouth mate, won't even give me a hiccup if I drain you.." He laughed, shaking his head until he had his human mask back.

"I get stuck with him.. that can't be fair nature boy.." He glared at the elf, and then at the human girl.

He looked to the elf hopping into the boat like a kitten, then at the golem again. "I think we have a race to win." He said striding over to the boat, easily lifting one end of it and sliding it into the water. "No need for experience.. got a master vampire on your side. Now get it the boat thing mate.." He looked to the doctor.

She grinned back at the rather handsome vampire, talking over her shoulder as she walked back down to the lake. “Don't mention it and give it a try for yourself if you ever want to be a day walker.” Mercy eyed the Golem who had come down closer making a strange grunting noise at the tall man older man with the cane. She swore she knew this man from somewhere but she couldn't think of it at the moment and pushed it out of her mind. “Hell you might have fun if you give it a try, go dance with the stone henge decedents.” She pointed to the second figure approacing. "Looks like they mean business."

Mercy got into the boat with Legolas taking the front position both of them moving it into the water, she'd kicked off her shoes and was wearing shorts so she didn't care about getting wet. Mercy picked up an ore and got in position waiting patiently. “Oh great! Then I have picked the best team mate, makes me feel almost sorry for those boys, mm almost.” Her grin light up her face.

"Once you two sort it out we'll go on three then?" She questioned. "Unless someone has a better way to start."

Greg's urge to direct a few snide comments at the blond boy was derailed when the supposed vampire's face changed. Now that was fascinating.

"Interesting," he said, limping closer to get a better look and feeling almost disappointed when the vampire... he was willing to concede that now... went back to normal. "And very neat. Good way of blending in with normal humans. So I'm assuming from the blankets, vampires are vulnerable to sunlight but that there are simple measures that can protect you? And do you automatically drain everyone you bite or can you control how much blood you take?" He paused as a curious thought occurred to him. "Do the different blood types taste different? Is there any differences between people in terms of blood, either taste or strength?"

He eyed the golems with distaste, trying to judge how serious they actually were then he snorted derisvely and a sardonic sneer grew on his face and moved a bit closer to the vampire.

"I used to compete in kayaks and canoes quite seriously," he said through gritted teeth, keeping his voice low and hating having to admit this, hating have to reference anything that had happened before the infarction. Though it did occur to him that if anything his upper body strength would only have improved since the infarction. "I think the reason why I stopped is pretty fucking obvious. You come up with a way I can get into that damned canoe without falling flat on my face in the water and without you or any of the others, including those golems, picking me up and putting me in it, then I'll actually put that experience to good use since you moronic meatheads seem to actually want to enjoy this."

As far as the elf was concerned, they could grump as much as they wanted. As long as they did what they were supposed to do, everything else was irrelevant. He'd had months and months of experience with Gimli the dwarf, and he was pretty much immune to surlyness now. Not to mention Aragorn hadn't exactly been Mr Friendly, either.

Legolas got into the boat without even moving it shift in the water. Swiftly, he seated himself and took up a paddle. "This is really quite simple... as most of you know, apparently." He flashed a smile all around. "At the count of three..."

His paddle went into the water. "One..." He braced himself, ready to spring into motion. "Two..." One more second, and he spoke the final number. "Three!" With a wink at Mercy, his paddle was moving swiftly through the water. He might not look all that strong, but he could really make the boat move.

He cocked his head as the guy limped closer to inspect him. He rolled his eyes, it was a common mistake in both demon and human circles, assuming that a vampire was just a human who lived of blood. "Yeah, sure I go up in smoke if I try and get a suntan.. only a few things can kill a vampire." He smiled to the crippled man "And I can control everything my fangs do.. and I can more then taste diffrent blood types, when you heart really gets a beating, and I can hear it a mile off I can smell it when I'm real close.." He leered at the man slightly. "Everyone's blood is slightly different, and I can taste strong foods on it. Slayer, or witch blood is the best.. though I'd imagine there is a few folks round here it'd be worth a nibble on.." He looked over his shoulder at the elf and the woman in the boat. "But we can discuss my menu choice later.. we've got a race."

He smiled. This could be quite amusing, but he wasn't into the whole team pow-wow himself, the human was talking quietly, but to his sensitive ears it was clear as broad daylight. "Good, you tell me what to do, and I can put this in the bag." he thought on the man's next words about getting on the boat, before he heard the elf counting. He turned his head seeing him sliding the boat away.

He growled from the back of his throat before looking at the boat and his own partner with a hiss as the man called him a moronic meathead. He one handedly lifted the guy by his collar covering the ground in record time, ignoring any hits or protests he might get, hissing like a wet cat as he dumped him in one end of the boat, kicking it out into the water before jumping on board with two paddles. He wobbled stood in the middle.

"Watch who you call Mornic, boy. Remember your like a bleeding happy meal on legs to me. Easy prey." He smiled. "Now what in fuck do we do?" he wobbled again, looking at the lake water with a frown. "Water isn't a strong point of mine.

“Let's Go!” While the other two men were distracted in conversation Legolas had counted down and as soon as he did she had a smirk on her face as she took her paddles to the water rowing with ease lurching the boat on forwards to take a quick lead. Mercy was a strong woman thanks to her kick boxing classes and other martial arts, she had always been the sporty type so this was a piece of pie in her mind.

This was her first work out in a few days so the fresh air over the pond was great in her lungs, she looked back to see where the other's were then spoke over her shoulder to her partner. “Nice strokes, keep it up mate.” She nodded her head smiling, she couldn't help herself so she started to sing. “Row, Row, Row your boat gently down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream.” She laughed not caring
how horrid her voice was as she paddled with a steady rhythm. “How are you doing back there my elven friend?”

Greg snarled and lashed out with his cane when the vampire picked him up and carried him over to the boat, dumping him in the front end of the boat and shoving them out into the water. Fury burned in his eyes and as he snatched an oar from the vampire he was tempted to use it to sweep the man's legs out from underneath him. The only thing that stopped him is that the vampire would probably turn the boat over as he fell and he was in no mood to get overly wet.

"Sit down for a start before you tip us over," he said in a snide, condescending voice as he glared over his shoulder. "And start putting that oar to some use instead of waving it around like a fairy's wand."

He turned around and settled himself better, stowing his cane by his feet before shifting so that he could use his right hand to get the most power in his strokes to start with. Might as well make some use of the musculature using his cane had built up. It took only a couple of strokes to settle into the old remembered rhythm, switching sides every couple of strokes since he doubted vampire boy behind him knew his arse from his elbow when it came to canoeing despite his braggadocio earlier. They wouldn't win unless the vampire was a quick learner and could pick up his tempo and match it but even if he turned out to be dead weight, Greg was fairly certain he could get close to the others. He didn't give a shit about winning. The only things he cared about winning these days were his battles with the medical puzzles that came his way and his battles with Cuddy. Everything was just white noise.

Legolas was having a great time. He really liked being on the water. It was an elf thing, really, being drawn to the water in any form. He laughed as he and the girl in the front of the boat whipped their paddles. Oddly, it seemed to him that they'd already picked up a perfect rhythm. Usually that didn't really happen right away, not with a new boating partner.

"I am quite well, Lady Mercy. In fact, I am better than quite well." He was grinning, and they were actually going fast enough that the wind was blowing back his long blond hair. He didn't underestimate the people in the other boat, though, so he didn't slow down though he and Mercy had a considerable lead. He didn't know what a vampire was, but he'd been around on Mirage long enough not to take anything for granted.

He and the dark-haired girl were approaching the post that marked out the end of the race. "My lady, you paddle, I shall steer and turn the canoe." He was, after all, in the back, so that would be his job. Mercy was very strong, he found. She would be perfect to keep their forward momentum going so they wouldn't lose speed.

He rolled his eyes at the man in front of him. "Was that cane meant to hurt? I've had harder hits off nuns.." he sat down in the boat with a hiss.

"Unlike yourself I have superb balance, I could stand up in here all day with out falling in.." he laughed. "Now can we please kick Lord nature walk's arse over there?"

Regretting his stupid competitiveness, he wasn't a big fan of boats. Watching the guy in front of him carefully, mimicking his actions with a relatively normal strength at first. Confident he was doing it right as nothing was going wrong so far he used his full strength, pushing them through the water at a highly increasing speed, put keeping the same pace as the guy in front. "Should I paddle faster or harder?" He asked with a quirked eyebrow looking at the water speeding past amusedly. They were gaining fast with the guy in front's skill and his superhuman strength.
