Who? The Doctor & Rose
Where? The TARDIS, then hiking and hot-springs.
When? Day five, late afternoon.
What? Just chilling and chatting.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe. Nakedness within.
Status: Complete, threaded.

Stressed didn't quite cover it. The TARDIS was stuck, it was undeniable now... and not only was she stuck, but with every day that passed the Doctor was convinced she was losing a little of her glow. Sometimes, when he let pessimism take over, the Doctor was almost prepared to accept that she might be dying on him. He couldn't let that happen, not like this, not because of some stupid planet that got bored.

He'd been fiddling about with the circuits for a good couple of hours, and still he had next to nothing to report. Sliding the floor panel back into place he moved somberly to the control panel, his face feeling a little naked without its trademark cheshire cat grin and his hearts feeling heavy in his chest. He ran his hand affectionately along the top of the panel, sighing softly before he started to start up yet another systems test. "Come on, love. I only want you to move forward five minutes in time, and five metres to the south," he practically whispered to the unusually unresponsive ship. The engines purred, seemingly trying to soothe his anguish and assure him that she was trying her best. "I know, love," he said, as if he were really talking to a close companion, which in many ways he was.

The central column light up, the familiar whirring sound of the engines groaning into action. "That's it, beautiful... come on!" he encouraged. "Yes! Almost there! Come on!" he yelled with a little more enthusiasm, yanking levers with a certain amount of eagerness. "I'll settle for one metre! Please! You're so close!" he insisted, gripping the side of the console in suspense, that grin slipping onto his face just for a second. It quickly faded as the lights dimmed, and he glanced over to check the time on the scanner. "Never mind, love. We'll get there," he insisted, leaning to press a wet kiss against the metal surface.

Rose had run back to the resort, wanting to find them something to eat. They'd been in the TARDIS most of the day, trying to get her to move. She knew he was stressing over it, and it pained her to watch him worry so much.

Grasping two bags in her hands, she idly swung them as she made her way back down to the TARDIS. It wasn't an awful lot, just some chips and burgers, and two bottles of soda to drink. Slowing as she approached the TARDIS, she pulled her key out of her shirt, unlocked the door and dropped the chain as she stepped inside.

"Any luck?" she asked when she saw the Doctor lean over to kiss the center console. She moved to flop down in the chair and set the bags on the floor, leaning over to reach in for their drinks. She opened one and held it out in offering as she eyed the center console once more.

The Doctor was rather grateful for the distraction, turning to lean against the console as Rose returned with the promised food. Really, if she wasn't around to remind him, he doubted he would ever eat until his body absolutely insisted upon it.

"Not really. Everything starts perfectly, and then... it's like she just can't..." he waved a hand, trying to think of the word. "Pry herself away," he finished, sighing a little but managing a small smile as she offered him a drink. "Thanks," he nodded, accepting it from her and taking a sip.

"It's no problem," she replied, sitting up and letting her hand run along the edge of the console. "I wish I could help. More, I mean." She sighed and then leaned down again for their food. Pulling out a box, she set one on the edge in front of her and reached for the second, offering it to the Doctor.

"Eat something. It will do you some good. And maybe you'll get a better idea while you're eating?" She lifted a shoulder in a shrug and flipped the box open. She popped a chip into her mouth. "We'll get her out of here."

"You help!" he insisted, taking the box from her. "I think I'd starve without you," he said, not meaning it to sound like an insignificant contribution at all. "I might be quite good with temporal physics, but the basics of survival techniques are somewhat lacking," he told her, giving her a cheeky grin as he popped open the box, only realising how hungry he was as the smell hit him.

"Yeah. Fixing time machines on an empty stomach is just asking for trouble," he agreed, munching on a chip that seemed to be cooked beyond perfection. "We have to. If I ever decided I would quite like a new home, I think I'd rather choose it myself than have it choose me," he laughed softly.

It wasn't so terrible for him; he didn't have an alternative place to call home. He hadn't yet touched upon the possibility that he may have trapped Rose in a situation that would have her never see her mother again. He couldn't let that happen; he'd already promised Jackie, so the planet would just have to let them go eventually.

Rose snorted with laughter as she picked up her burger. She shook her head. "It's no wonder you bring a companion on your travels, isn't it?" She took a bite of her sandwich and nearly moaned out loud over how good it was.

"We will. And- well, with Jack and Ace both here, we're bound to figure something out, yeah?"

Rose burst into laughter, taking one more sip of her soda before leaning to drop her empty box and bottle into the bag she'd brought their food in. Standing, she ambled over and leaned down to press a smacking kiss to his cheek. "I wouldn't change a single thing about you," she admitted as she straightened, reaching for one of his chips before she stepped past him. "I promise."

The Doctor couldn't help but smile as Rose kissed his cheek, reassuring him that he wasn't just second-best to his former self. "yeah, well, good job too! I plan on keeping this body for quite a while!" he insisted, knowing that his track record wasn't exactly great; he was actually rather young to be on his tenth body already.

"Oi!" he laughed, noticing that Rose had stolen a chip from him. He shook his head, trying to stifle a giggle as he finished off, reaching over to pop his empty box in alongside her own, knowing that the TARDIS would still dispose of it despite not being able to dematerialise. "Right. Shall we?" he asked offering her his arm.

"I rather like this body," she said, then froze when she realized what she'd said. Well. Yeah. She shook her head and took his arm, stepping close to his side. "Come on, you. Let's go see what we can find."

The Doctor waggled his eyebrows suggestively, taking full advantage of her little slip of the tongue. "I'll bet you do, Rose. I'll bet you do," he teased, each word coming out in an oddly seductive manner.

But then he'd taken her arm and started to half-march, half-skip toward the door. "Alright! Allons-y!" he grinned as if they were about to embark on a rather exciting adventure. "BYe-bye, old girl. Get some rest. No decorating," he insisted, petting the side of the TARDIS before pulling the door closed behind them.

The Doctor gave an exaggerated shrug as Rose asked what they'd do without the TARDIS. It was more than just a time machine, and they both knew that. It was a lot more than a mobile home, too. It was one of the few compenents of his life that remained constant. Sure, he'd change the design, add new rooms, but she was always there. In a figuritive and a literal sense, she was a part of them both.

"It is a bit. Like a rogue TARDIS..." a thought crossed his mind and he frowned, stopping in his tracks as he started to think about it. "Huh. I think... I think we should get some DNA samples from the people. Maybe there's something in us that's acting like a magnet. A TARDIS can... do something quite similar," he explained.

He shrugged it off; they weren't going to run about DNA testing people right that second, but he'd store the possibility at the back of his mind for later on. He started walking again. "Mm, well the planet said we couldn't kill anyone, right? Maybe... we can't get sick, either," he suggested, although he wasn't totally certain how that worked. "I can accept that it could stop me from getting malaria, but how can it stop me from falling and breaking something?" he asked. The thought of it made him feel a little uneasy.

"Well, if we go with that theory they probably won't be allowed to bite you!" he laughed, giving her a nudge in the ribs but deciding that he would follow the advice just incase.

"You think?" she asked, quiet for a few moments as she stepped over a root and considered this. "How do you propose we do that? I mean, we can't just go around asking people for bits of their hair, can we?" She frowned slightly, then lifted a shoulder in a shrug.

"Yeah, we can't kill. And no! Don't you dare go testing that theory- I don't fancy having to help you feed and dress and bathe yourself because you've broken something on me." Well. She'd do it if he needed her to, but she didn't want him to go breaking anything on purpose.

"I like that theory. No bites and no itchy spots and no nasty diseases. It's a very nice theory."

"Course we can!" he insisted, not really seeing why it would be all that difficult. "Hello, routine check-up, say ah! And there we have ourselves a swab!" he grinned. "Or we could steal their used cutlery," he suggested with a little giggle, knowing that she wouldn't put it past him.

"Ah, don't worry. I heal pretty quickly anyway," he reminded her. "Not that it's an excuse to go flinging myself off things, I know!" he grinned, moving hs hand to grip her elbow to help her over a rather uneven bit of ground.

"I'd usually say that we should expect the worst, but I think I'll be clinging to that lovely little theory myself until proven otherwise!" he smiled.

"I'm sure they'd all fall for that one," she replied dryly. "I wonder if the golems would know if we did. Somehow, I think they might. Do you think they'd chase us down?" She was starting to get used to not being chased around-- it would be a bit like their normal adventures if the golems did decide to do so.

"I know you do, but still!" She was quiet again as they picked their way over the uneven ground-- there was no need to twist an ankle out here. "I'd worry. Too much, probably."

"What'd we find?" she asked, tilting her head as she sniffed. She smelled...something, but- "Radium? How on earth- nevermind." Of course he'd be able to pick it out. She'd just trust him, like she always did. Turning, she followed him over the rocks and then brightened when she saw the hot springs. "Oh, brilliant! Are these what I think they are?"

The Doctor was peering at a sign as Rose followed him over to the source of the radium. "If you're thinking Geothermal springs then you'd be right," he started, although as soon the words had left his mouth he pulled his eyebrows together in confusion. "Actually, no you wouldn't, you'd be a moron like this signmaker because it can hardly be geo-thermal considering we're not on Earth, but I suppose the concept is pretty much the same," he pointed out.

"The planet must have an internal heat source. I wonder if there's a volcano..." he said thougthfully, much more interested in the geological implications of the hot springs than any recreational use.

Rose snorted with laughter as she came up beside him. She read the sign, and then grinned. "Oh, come on, can't we go in?" She stepped past the sign, peering down into the water. Crouching at the edge, she dipped her hand into the springs and smiled. "It's so nice and warm! Can we? Please?"

The Doctor raised an eyebrow as Rose suggested that they got in; she had just read the sign, hadn't she? Was she suggesting that they stripped off? Of course, communal bathing was not exactly meant to be taboo, and strangely enough... with anyone else he'd probably have jumped on in already. But with their antics a few nights ago he was feeling somewhat coy about getting naked.

"You can get all sorts of diseases from those things. Meningitis... verucas... herpes!" he told her, crossing his arms over his chest as if that genuinely was the reason he didn't want to go in.

"I'm assuming there's nothing dangerous though, right?" she asked, though she figured if there were, they likely wouldn't be in the water. She didn't mind his rambling- she was used to it, after all, and rather liked listening to him go on and on, even if she only understood about half of what he was saying most of the time.

"Maybe it isn't as new as it seems. Maybe the planet itself is old but civilization is new?" She lifted a shoulder in a shrug, then straightened her legs in front of her under the water, leaning forward as she reached toward them to stretch out her back. "But as we've said before, there are worse places to get stuck. At least there aren't any fiery pits here? None that we've found, at least..."

"Nah, just the same as it would be on Earth," he assured her, although sticking his wet fingers into his mouth probably wasn't the best way to avoid the meningitis he'd been warning her about.

He grinned widely as she speculated upon the planet's true age. "That was going to be my maybe," he told her; it was funny how like their thoughts were these days. Rose had grown so much since that day in Henrik's. As she leaned forward, the Doctor caught himself looking at the arch of her back, glistening with water, almost unable to take his eyes away. He had the strangest urge to reach out and run his hand along her spine, but as the thought crossed his mind he made a conscious decision to look at her face again. "Yeah, I'm reluctant to believe that everything is as it seems, but that's just because I've never known something to be that way before. I swear, if we went on a package holiday to Ibiza I'd be searching the bus for impostors and terrorists," he grinned in a cheerful but self-depreciating manner.

"Oh, good," she said, sitting back and leaning over, resting her head on his shoulder as her toes peeked up out of the water. She wiggled them a little and then let them sink back under again. "It seems strange, though. I mean, I know you hear about evolution and civilizations popping up, but this...Doesn't it seem rather advanced?"

He sighed softly as her head touched his shoulder; he was quickly relaxing as he reminded himself that it was Rose, and really he shouldn't be nervous about letting her so close, physically or emotionally.

"Mmm, I don't think kidnapping people counts as evolution, to be honest!" he pointed out. "But yeah... unless they're stealing the horses too, it's all very weird. You lot were all dinosaurs about now, although... the dinosaurs might ruin the relaxing atmosphere, eh?" he suggested, smiling cheekily down at her.

"We've been beautiful places," Rose said, smiling as she elbowed him lightly in the side. "Florana would be nice. I'd like that a lot."

She burst into giggles as he started to kiss her- that tickled a bit. "It's not?" she asked, squirming a little. "I- hey! Doctor-!" She turned to say something to him, but then one kiss landed on her lips and she decided that she'd rather do that instead and leaned toward him again to kiss him a bit more properly once again.

The Doctor gasped slightly as his kiss was misdirected, but quickly relaxed and sank into the kiss.

It certainly wasn't the safest of places to be kissing; there was a definite possibility of slipping, and they were naked. Oh, bugger it, he didn't care! His hands lifted and he gently touched her cheek before his fingers slipped into her hair, forgetting for the moment that his hands were still wet.

Not the safest, but Rose rather liked it. And if she'd thought snogging him drunk was fun, now that they were both sober it was even better. She sighed softly as she felt his hand at her cheek and she lifted her own hand, resting it lightly on his shoulder, pulling him closer.

At least the Doctor had confirmation that it certainly hadn't been the drink that had made her kiss him the first time, but the thought that he didn't have the excuse of alcohol anymore either made him a little nervous. Not nervous enough to stop kissing her, but a little nervous nonetheless.

He was a Time Lord, for goodness sakes, he was supposed to be above all that kind of nonsense... but he really didn't want to stop. It didn't matter; there was no one around to judge him anymore. What was more, he could hardly dismiss his feelings for Rose as mere 'nonsense'. He'd always shunned that sort of attitude anyway... oh, he was thinking too much. He tried to focus more on the physical; her lips against his, her wet hand leaving a print on his shoulder, her bare chest rising and falling just inches from his own... perhaps he was safer thinking, after all.
