Entry tags:complete, day 5, rose tyler, the doctor

Who? The Doctor & Rose
Where? The TARDIS, then hiking and hot-springs.
When? Day five, late afternoon.
What? Just chilling and chatting.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe. Nakedness within.
Status: Complete, threaded.

Stressed didn't quite cover it. The TARDIS was stuck, it was undeniable now... and not only was she stuck, but with every day that passed the Doctor was convinced she was losing a little of her glow. Sometimes, when he let pessimism take over, the Doctor was almost prepared to accept that she might be dying on him. He couldn't let that happen, not like this, not because of some stupid planet that got bored.

He'd been fiddling about with the circuits for a good couple of hours, and still he had next to nothing to report. Sliding the floor panel back into place he moved somberly to the control panel, his face feeling a little naked without its trademark cheshire cat grin and his hearts feeling heavy in his chest. He ran his hand affectionately along the top of the panel, sighing softly before he started to start up yet another systems test. "Come on, love. I only want you to move forward five minutes in time, and five metres to the south," he practically whispered to the unusually unresponsive ship. The engines purred, seemingly trying to soothe his anguish and assure him that she was trying her best. "I know, love," he said, as if he were really talking to a close companion, which in many ways he was.

The central column light up, the familiar whirring sound of the engines groaning into action. "That's it, beautiful... come on!" he encouraged. "Yes! Almost there! Come on!" he yelled with a little more enthusiasm, yanking levers with a certain amount of eagerness. "I'll settle for one metre! Please! You're so close!" he insisted, gripping the side of the console in suspense, that grin slipping onto his face just for a second. It quickly faded as the lights dimmed, and he glanced over to check the time on the scanner. "Never mind, love. We'll get there," he insisted, leaning to press a wet kiss against the metal surface.

Rose stepped forward as he nudged her and then brightened as he held out his hand. She took it, lacing their fingers together and letting their joined hands swing between them as she walked beside him. "It will be brilliant," she said. "We've got to find some sort of adventure! I wonder if there are any sorts of wild animals running about. I know they have horses, so maybe they have others somewhere?"

"We usually do!" the Doctor exclaimed cheerfully. Really, the day they failed to find even a small amount of adventure would be a very strange day indeed.

"You know, that's a good point. Where did the horses come from?" he asked rhetorically, pulling his eyebrows together in confusion. If the planet was as brand new as it appeared it was unlikely that horses would have had the time to evolve. They weren't even stony horses like the golems. "And look!" he remembered suddenly, holding out his free hand for her to see. "Mosquitoes. A little bit less complex than a horse, but weird nonetheless!" he remarked.

"I don't know. I just hope these mosquitoes aren't carrying any strange diseases or anything. I don't think I fancy getting sick here- have you seen any sort of hospital or infirmary?" She hadn't, so far as she could tell. Ah, well. That didn't matter- they'd just have to be careful, yeah?

"I think I see a trail just ahead. Think we should try it? Or just march on into the woods, off the beaten path?"

The Doctor pulled a face of disgust as she suggested that they might contract some horrible alien disease. "Well, we're very fortunate the TARDIS came with is. We have a very extensive medicine cabinet of our own."

He raised his eyebrows, bouncing a little as she mentioned the hospitals. "Oh, Rose, you're so very clever! Exactly! I meant to tell you about the lack of a hospital!" he realised all of a sudden. "But you figured it out for yourself. No hospital. I mean, that's just asking for trouble, isn't it?" he pointed out. "No graveyard, either. No church or mosque or temple or whatever. No ruins. No history. Even the art gallery is full of Earth masterpieces. I have no idea how, they aren't copies, Rose... they're the originals," he insisted.

He sighed softly, peering into the distance at the path before turning back to her with a sly smile. "When have you ever known me to go off the beaten track?" he asked, shaking his head as if the suggestion were completely insane. "Stick to the path, that's me!" he grinned, before nodding into the woods and giving her hand a soft tug as he started to move them away from the designated walkway.

"What would we do without her?" Rose asked, smiling. "Although this planet...bits of it- it reminds me of her, in a way. The psychic stuff, mostly. How it seems to have a life of its own, pulling all sorts of people here. At least...It seems like that's what it's doing, doesn't it?"

She grinned, blushing faintly as he called her clever. "It seems like it. But I haven't seen anybody get sick, either. Or heard anything about anybody getting sick. I mean, yeah, it's only been a few days, but still. And the rooms? And the food? It's all how we want it- all cooked to perfection. It doesn't make sense."

"Yeah, of course," she retorted with a snort of laughter, following him into the woods and ducking under a low branch. "Just watch for, you know, snakes or something. I don't fancy getting bitten."
