Who? The Doctor & Rose
Where? The TARDIS, then hiking and hot-springs.
When? Day five, late afternoon.
What? Just chilling and chatting.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe. Nakedness within.
Status: Complete, threaded.

Stressed didn't quite cover it. The TARDIS was stuck, it was undeniable now... and not only was she stuck, but with every day that passed the Doctor was convinced she was losing a little of her glow. Sometimes, when he let pessimism take over, the Doctor was almost prepared to accept that she might be dying on him. He couldn't let that happen, not like this, not because of some stupid planet that got bored.

He'd been fiddling about with the circuits for a good couple of hours, and still he had next to nothing to report. Sliding the floor panel back into place he moved somberly to the control panel, his face feeling a little naked without its trademark cheshire cat grin and his hearts feeling heavy in his chest. He ran his hand affectionately along the top of the panel, sighing softly before he started to start up yet another systems test. "Come on, love. I only want you to move forward five minutes in time, and five metres to the south," he practically whispered to the unusually unresponsive ship. The engines purred, seemingly trying to soothe his anguish and assure him that she was trying her best. "I know, love," he said, as if he were really talking to a close companion, which in many ways he was.

The central column light up, the familiar whirring sound of the engines groaning into action. "That's it, beautiful... come on!" he encouraged. "Yes! Almost there! Come on!" he yelled with a little more enthusiasm, yanking levers with a certain amount of eagerness. "I'll settle for one metre! Please! You're so close!" he insisted, gripping the side of the console in suspense, that grin slipping onto his face just for a second. It quickly faded as the lights dimmed, and he glanced over to check the time on the scanner. "Never mind, love. We'll get there," he insisted, leaning to press a wet kiss against the metal surface.

The Doctor gave an exaggerated shrug as Rose asked what they'd do without the TARDIS. It was more than just a time machine, and they both knew that. It was a lot more than a mobile home, too. It was one of the few compenents of his life that remained constant. Sure, he'd change the design, add new rooms, but she was always there. In a figuritive and a literal sense, she was a part of them both.

"It is a bit. Like a rogue TARDIS..." a thought crossed his mind and he frowned, stopping in his tracks as he started to think about it. "Huh. I think... I think we should get some DNA samples from the people. Maybe there's something in us that's acting like a magnet. A TARDIS can... do something quite similar," he explained.

He shrugged it off; they weren't going to run about DNA testing people right that second, but he'd store the possibility at the back of his mind for later on. He started walking again. "Mm, well the planet said we couldn't kill anyone, right? Maybe... we can't get sick, either," he suggested, although he wasn't totally certain how that worked. "I can accept that it could stop me from getting malaria, but how can it stop me from falling and breaking something?" he asked. The thought of it made him feel a little uneasy.

"Well, if we go with that theory they probably won't be allowed to bite you!" he laughed, giving her a nudge in the ribs but deciding that he would follow the advice just incase.

"You think?" she asked, quiet for a few moments as she stepped over a root and considered this. "How do you propose we do that? I mean, we can't just go around asking people for bits of their hair, can we?" She frowned slightly, then lifted a shoulder in a shrug.

"Yeah, we can't kill. And no! Don't you dare go testing that theory- I don't fancy having to help you feed and dress and bathe yourself because you've broken something on me." Well. She'd do it if he needed her to, but she didn't want him to go breaking anything on purpose.

"I like that theory. No bites and no itchy spots and no nasty diseases. It's a very nice theory."

"Course we can!" he insisted, not really seeing why it would be all that difficult. "Hello, routine check-up, say ah! And there we have ourselves a swab!" he grinned. "Or we could steal their used cutlery," he suggested with a little giggle, knowing that she wouldn't put it past him.

"Ah, don't worry. I heal pretty quickly anyway," he reminded her. "Not that it's an excuse to go flinging myself off things, I know!" he grinned, moving hs hand to grip her elbow to help her over a rather uneven bit of ground.

"I'd usually say that we should expect the worst, but I think I'll be clinging to that lovely little theory myself until proven otherwise!" he smiled.

"I'm sure they'd all fall for that one," she replied dryly. "I wonder if the golems would know if we did. Somehow, I think they might. Do you think they'd chase us down?" She was starting to get used to not being chased around-- it would be a bit like their normal adventures if the golems did decide to do so.

"I know you do, but still!" She was quiet again as they picked their way over the uneven ground-- there was no need to twist an ankle out here. "I'd worry. Too much, probably."

"Hey, you'd be surprised how many people have just assumed I'm the planet's resident doctor!" he pointed out, realising that Rose was probably so used to his name that the connection wasn't made anymore. "Plus, a lot of people are eager to leave. If I just tell them the truth, they'll be lining up to give me salivia. Which sounds pretty messy!"

He gave her a little shrug as she mentioned the golems. Being chased down by living statues wasn't really all that worrying to him, and he knew that they'd just end up finding it rather exciting. "It says no killing and no leaving, not no saliva collecting!" he pointed out, wondering if now that he'd said it they'd go back and find 'no saliva collected' added to the welcome tablet.

"Don't worry. I'd drive myself mental. I'd be determined to run on a broken ankle. I know it," he pointed out, quite well aware that he wouldn't be able to sit still long enough to let it heal properly.

"Oh yeah," she said, pausing in her tracks for a moment as she considered this. But then he was still walking and she skipped a little to catch up. "That does sound disgusting. But you're probably right."

"I know. And you'd just make it worse and worse and then what will we do with you? I could only entertain you for so long before I'd be running off to do something because you've driven me mad."

"Could be worse, I suppose," he shrugged, thinking of a variety of worse things to collect but deciding not to start listing them. A cheeky smile spread across his face. "Hey! Remember our first trip? The gift of bodily fluids, bet you'd never felt so grateful in all your life!" he teased, remembering her expression of absolute shock of the Moxx of Balhoon had spat right in her face.

The Doctor gave her an exaggerated pout. "Aww, would you really leave me all alone? In pain? Dangerously bored? Unable to fend for myself?" he asked, really rubbing it in.

"Ugh," she groaned, scrunching up her nose and pulling a face. "Disgusting. But then again, I couldn't do much but stare as he spit at me!" She shuddered and shook her head, stepping away from him for a moment as she circled a rock, then easily moved back to his side.

Rose lifted an eyebrow as she looked to the Doctor. She tried to keep a straight face for as long as she could, but then she snorted with laughter and shook her head. "Pathetic," she teased, giving his hand a light squeeze. "You know I couldn't."

"Might have been a bit extreme for your first trip!" he laughed. "But you asked for it!" he reminded her; really, of all the places he could have taken her, to witness the death of her own planet had been a bit excessive even by his standards. Still, she'd coped surprisingly well. She always did.

He gave her a wide grin, yanking her toward him to place a kiss on top of her hand, unconsciously breathing in the scent of her hair. "Good. Because I don't adapt well to injury!" he laughed. He really wasn't one to take medical advice unless it was a life or death situation, and it did tend to infuriate those around him.

"I suppose I did, didn't I," she asked, not really needing an answer. "But it was fun. And- well, I'm glad I went. I love this- travelling with you."

She gasped as he yanked her closer, closing her eyes for a moment as he kissed her. Her arm wrapped around his waist as they walked and she grinned. "No, I don't imagine you do. And I wouldn't even know how to help fix you."

"Well, you weren't very easy to impress, Miss Tyler!" he pointed out, although he thought that trait was rather something that drew him to her. She had so readily accepted the fact that he was an alien, she'd simply made a little joke about his age... she so quickly so herself as his equal, and he was glad of that.

"I'm glad you did, too. I'm glad I came back to mention the time traveling part!" he laughed, remembering how it had suddenly struck him that he'd forgotten to tell her the most important part. "You even love it when I get you stuck on stupid leisure planets?" he asked, half-joking, but with a definite twinge of guilt mixed in their somewhere. He knew it wasn't his fault exactly, but he hated not being able to reassure her that he could definitely get her home again.

"Oh, you know, if all else fails just try a nice cup of tea!" he suggested, grinning widely at her as they walked close together.

"Well. A girl's gotta have her standards, yeah?" she teased, poking him lightly in the side. She looked up as he mentioned the leisure planet, and she stopped in her tracks, tugging him to a stop as she stepped in front of him.

"Doctor- don't. It's not your fault. And we'll find a way out, alright? We've just gotta think positively, and not give up. We'll get out of here." One hand on each of his cheeks, she lifted herself up on her tiptoes to kiss his forehead and then moved back to his side, walking again.

"I'll definitely be sure to keep that in mind," she said with a grin. "Nice strong tea. Like my mum makes."

He stopped almost reluctantly, sighing softly and looking to the ground. His momentary melancholy couldn't last long, though, and as Rose cupped his face in her hands he couldn't help but smile. "I know. Course we will," he agreed, forcing himself to believe it. They had to, they just had to, no matter how long it took them to come to a solution they weren't the sort to give up without a fight. "We survived a planet orbiting a black hole, I think we can cope with a know-it-all holiday resort!" he told her, a little spark of genuine optimism flickering in his eyes as he started to walk with her once more.

"Good. Brew of resurrection. Undead infusion. Regeneration Remedy," he babbled, apparently trying to find a marketable name for her mother's tea.

Rose smiled as he did and nodded. "I think we can. We've faced worse, and you know? As long as we're together, we can do anything."

She snorted with laughter again. "I think I like Regeneration Remedy. It worked, didn't it? And just in time, too."

"Yeah! They're not even allowed to kill us! That's a definite improvement from the majority of the situations we find ourselves in!" he agreed.

"Regeneration Remedy," he repeated, sounding out each syllable as if they were brand new words to him. "Yeah, undead infusion sounds a bit like it might be made from zombie," he giggled. They seemed to be approaching a bit of a clearing, and the Doctor gave her an excited grin, speeding up just a little to make it into the opening.

"Definitely," Rose said. "It does. Like you've plucked zombie bits and dropped them into a cauldron and made a potion of some sort."

She burst into laughter as he sped up, and she began to jog along beside him. "What's up here?" she asked, knowing he probably didn't know any more than she did, and she slowed as they reached the clearing. "Oh, wow..."

"We've found... something!" he exclaimed, not entirely sure what it was that they had found. He breathed deeply, the air suddenly feeling a lot thicker, hints of a variety of mineral lingering in the air. "Huh, smells like radium," he said, as if that was the sort of smell everyone was meant to detect with a vague sniff of the air.

He moved with absolute no regard for personal safety, hopping over rocks and uneven ground. "Oh. That's weird!" he commented, finally drawing close enough to spot the hot spings.
