Entry tags:complete, day 5, rose tyler, the doctor

Who? The Doctor & Rose
Where? The TARDIS, then hiking and hot-springs.
When? Day five, late afternoon.
What? Just chilling and chatting.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe. Nakedness within.
Status: Complete, threaded.

Stressed didn't quite cover it. The TARDIS was stuck, it was undeniable now... and not only was she stuck, but with every day that passed the Doctor was convinced she was losing a little of her glow. Sometimes, when he let pessimism take over, the Doctor was almost prepared to accept that she might be dying on him. He couldn't let that happen, not like this, not because of some stupid planet that got bored.

He'd been fiddling about with the circuits for a good couple of hours, and still he had next to nothing to report. Sliding the floor panel back into place he moved somberly to the control panel, his face feeling a little naked without its trademark cheshire cat grin and his hearts feeling heavy in his chest. He ran his hand affectionately along the top of the panel, sighing softly before he started to start up yet another systems test. "Come on, love. I only want you to move forward five minutes in time, and five metres to the south," he practically whispered to the unusually unresponsive ship. The engines purred, seemingly trying to soothe his anguish and assure him that she was trying her best. "I know, love," he said, as if he were really talking to a close companion, which in many ways he was.

The central column light up, the familiar whirring sound of the engines groaning into action. "That's it, beautiful... come on!" he encouraged. "Yes! Almost there! Come on!" he yelled with a little more enthusiasm, yanking levers with a certain amount of eagerness. "I'll settle for one metre! Please! You're so close!" he insisted, gripping the side of the console in suspense, that grin slipping onto his face just for a second. It quickly faded as the lights dimmed, and he glanced over to check the time on the scanner. "Never mind, love. We'll get there," he insisted, leaning to press a wet kiss against the metal surface.

"Do you honestly think they'd have a sign here about it, practically inviting you in if you could get any of those diseases? And hey, maybe-" Oh. She blinked and turned back to the water, sitting down on a rock at the edge. Hm. Maybe that would be a little bit awkward.

"Well, I suppose you're right." She propped her chin on her hand, elbow resting on her knee. "Maybe I'll ask Jack if he'll come back with me later..."

"It's hot and wet, bacteria need no more invitation than that!" he insisted, moving to sit cross-legged on the ground next to her.

It was strange; he'd expected to be relieved when she agreed that going in was completely unnecessary, but when she mentioned going back with Jack an odd feeling of disappointment washed over him. In a way it just served to remind him of Jack back during WW2; like the Doctor, but with dancing, and it seemed to him that he was just too... god, was he being boring?

"Fine!" he said suddenly, moving to unlace his shoes. "We can get meningitis if you so wish!" he said, pretending that it was only through intense nagging that she'd got him to do it.

"But it's not-" Rose really couldn't argue with that and she sighed, glancing over as he sat down beside her. She blinked, sitting up as he began to unlace his shoes. "Really?"

Oh, why was she even asking? Laughing, she leaned over to kiss him on the cheek for the second time that afternoon and moved to toe off her own shoes before peeling off her socks and setting them beside her.

"Yes, really, hurry up before I change my mind," he told her, although the reluctance was mostly put on, which became quite apparent as he turned to give her a wide smile as she kissed his cheek.

He put his shoes and socks to one side, moving to shrug off his jacket and then loosen his tie. He was starting to realise just how much bother it was wearing so many layers to this particular outfit, although he was grateful it wasn't as intricate as Eight's. "We don't have a towel," he pointed out, realising how uncomfortable their walk back to the resort was going to be, but the comment didn't stop him from sliding the tie from his neck.

"We'll manage," she said, reaching behind her to tug her shirt off and drop it to the ground. She stood, then, undoing her jeans and quickly undressing-- before she lost the nerve to actually undress with him there. Besides, would he really even be looking? Well. The other night indicated that he might but she wasn't thinking about that right now. Once undressed, she moved to step into the water, closing her eyes and sighing happily at its warmth. She cast a glance back to the Doctor but tried not to stare- and she succeeded fairly well.

"I guess so," he agreed, concentrating on unbuttoning his shirt to stop himself from looking over at her. He quickly undressed, mostly out of a worry that otherwise she would look over and it would end up becoming some sort of striptease, as opposed to happening in a more subtle and insignificant manner.

He slipped into the water next to her, mentally berating himself for acting like a teenager about it all. It was strange the effect she could have on him. "Hello!" he smiled, making sure to make eye-contact instead of talking to any other part of her body.

Rose felt a bit foolish and kept her eyes on the water as he finished undressing and stepped in. And then she looked up to him-- her eyes on his face, and smiled in return. "Hello!"

She moved over to sit on a rock ledge and then motioned for him to come sit with her. Beside her. They didn't have to touch. Well. If she were to be completely honest, then she would have liked if they did, but she didn't want to make this any more awkward than it already was starting to be.

The Doctor moved next to her, close but not close enough to be touching quite yet. He popped a finger into his mouth, frowning as his tongue started to pick up the different minerals and properties of the water. It was odd; if he hadn't known better, he'd have assumed the water had an earthly origin. The sign certainly had been accurate when it referring to the spring as geothermic, but how that was possible, the Doctor didn't know.

He realised he'd been almost comically still as he thought about it, and popped his finger out again, turning to give her a wide grin. "Sorry. Can't help myself," he laughed softly.

He was quiet, which was strange enough, and it didn't help Rose any as he tasted the water. She leaned back, closing her eyes, then glanced over to watch him, unable to help her smile as he grinned at her. "What's in it? Anything strange or special?"

"Calcium. Lithium. That radium I was talking about," he leaned back, apparently abandoning his list of elements. "Lots of -ium's."

He was silent for a moment, but eventually decided he couldn't keep his thoughts to himself. "If the planet is new then I have no idea how it's managed to experience radioactive decay already. Unless it's just never had life before. Or maybe..." he trailed off, looking over at her as he realised how completely ridiculous he was being. "Then again, if it can make resort staff out of bits of old rock, then I don't suppose it's ability to heat water is all that surprising."

They were both naked in a tub of hot water and he was babbling on about radioactive decay. The short answer should have been no, nothing even slightly interesting. But then again, listing chemicals at least distracted him from the potential awkwardness of the situation.
