Entry tags:complete, day 5, rose tyler, the doctor

Who? The Doctor & Rose
Where? The TARDIS, then hiking and hot-springs.
When? Day five, late afternoon.
What? Just chilling and chatting.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe. Nakedness within.
Status: Complete, threaded.

Stressed didn't quite cover it. The TARDIS was stuck, it was undeniable now... and not only was she stuck, but with every day that passed the Doctor was convinced she was losing a little of her glow. Sometimes, when he let pessimism take over, the Doctor was almost prepared to accept that she might be dying on him. He couldn't let that happen, not like this, not because of some stupid planet that got bored.

He'd been fiddling about with the circuits for a good couple of hours, and still he had next to nothing to report. Sliding the floor panel back into place he moved somberly to the control panel, his face feeling a little naked without its trademark cheshire cat grin and his hearts feeling heavy in his chest. He ran his hand affectionately along the top of the panel, sighing softly before he started to start up yet another systems test. "Come on, love. I only want you to move forward five minutes in time, and five metres to the south," he practically whispered to the unusually unresponsive ship. The engines purred, seemingly trying to soothe his anguish and assure him that she was trying her best. "I know, love," he said, as if he were really talking to a close companion, which in many ways he was.

The central column light up, the familiar whirring sound of the engines groaning into action. "That's it, beautiful... come on!" he encouraged. "Yes! Almost there! Come on!" he yelled with a little more enthusiasm, yanking levers with a certain amount of eagerness. "I'll settle for one metre! Please! You're so close!" he insisted, gripping the side of the console in suspense, that grin slipping onto his face just for a second. It quickly faded as the lights dimmed, and he glanced over to check the time on the scanner. "Never mind, love. We'll get there," he insisted, leaning to press a wet kiss against the metal surface.

"Nah, just the same as it would be on Earth," he assured her, although sticking his wet fingers into his mouth probably wasn't the best way to avoid the meningitis he'd been warning her about.

He grinned widely as she speculated upon the planet's true age. "That was going to be my maybe," he told her; it was funny how like their thoughts were these days. Rose had grown so much since that day in Henrik's. As she leaned forward, the Doctor caught himself looking at the arch of her back, glistening with water, almost unable to take his eyes away. He had the strangest urge to reach out and run his hand along her spine, but as the thought crossed his mind he made a conscious decision to look at her face again. "Yeah, I'm reluctant to believe that everything is as it seems, but that's just because I've never known something to be that way before. I swear, if we went on a package holiday to Ibiza I'd be searching the bus for impostors and terrorists," he grinned in a cheerful but self-depreciating manner.

"Oh, good," she said, sitting back and leaning over, resting her head on his shoulder as her toes peeked up out of the water. She wiggled them a little and then let them sink back under again. "It seems strange, though. I mean, I know you hear about evolution and civilizations popping up, but this...Doesn't it seem rather advanced?"

He sighed softly as her head touched his shoulder; he was quickly relaxing as he reminded himself that it was Rose, and really he shouldn't be nervous about letting her so close, physically or emotionally.

"Mmm, I don't think kidnapping people counts as evolution, to be honest!" he pointed out. "But yeah... unless they're stealing the horses too, it's all very weird. You lot were all dinosaurs about now, although... the dinosaurs might ruin the relaxing atmosphere, eh?" he suggested, smiling cheekily down at her.

"No, but the golems? They're not...primitive, but they're not really...I don't know what they are." She smiled faintly and closed her eyes as she felt him relax beside her. "You're right, though. Unless there were friendly dinosaurs? Do you think any dinosaurs were ever really friendly? I don't imagine any of the plant eaters would be all too aggressive." She looked up as he smiled and she returned it with a grin of her own. "This is nice. I'm glad you suggested a hike."

"Oh, yeah, good point," he agreed, nodding thoughtfully. He wasn't entirely sure what to make of the golems, either. "They're like the planet's representatives. I suppose the planet is a bit like the TARDIS, you were right," he remembered, the suggestion suddenly becoming clearer.

He raised an eyebrow, trying to stop himself from laughing as she rambled on about dinosaurs. "I think you're confusing the Barosaurus with Barney," he told her, pressing his lips together to stop himself from giggling.

"Yeah, it's nice. Probably the most relaxing thing we've done in months," he pointed out. They'd had quite a time of it lately.

Rose blushed faintly as he told her she was right, then laughed, reaching over to poke him in the side. "Oh, go on. Laugh. I can see you want to." Leaning up, she kissed him on the cheek.

"Yeah, you're right. I kind of like it, but..I don't think I want to get used to this for too long."

The Doctor didn't need to be told twice. The words had barely left Rose's lips before he gave in to his laughter, grinning widely as she kissed his cheek.

"No, not for long. Relaxing gets boring after a while," he agreed. "Running for your life, however, never gets old!" he added, not even a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"When we leave this place... and yes, I mean when... we should go to Florana. Covered in flowers, sea of warm milk... really, floating in warm milk is the strangest feeling," he told her, half-wondering if they were going to make a habit of lounging about in warm pools.

"Never," she agreed with a laugh of her own. "Because we're never running in the same place from the same thing twice!" She wasn't being sarcastic, either, and she closed her eyes again as she remained with her head at his shoulder.

"Warm milk?" she asked, trying to picture it. "Wouldn't that smell after a while?" Hey, she was curious! She straightened her legs out under water again and then closed her eyes as they relaxed back to how they were. "It sounds nice, though. Really nice."

"Yeah, got to have variety!" he agreed, "Plus, we have fun, right? I mean... werewolf!" he pointed out, giggling with contentment. Really, like he'd told Jackie at Christmas, the danger was just the bits in between... oh, they'd had some brilliant times together.

He frowned a little, looking at the top of her head with a sort of bewilderment. "Smell? I never thought of that before!" he exclaimed. He never did cease to be impressed with the things she came out with sometimes. "No, it doesn't smell. Mind you, it'd be hard to smell anything over all those perfumed flowers. Maybe that's why they're there..." he said thoughtfully. He'd never even bothered to wonder why the milk didn't go sour, he'd just taken it for granted. The human perspective was amazing sometimes.

"You don't have hayfever, do you? That'd be a terrible place to go to if you did," he added as an afterthought.

"There's never a lack of variety when you're around," Rose said, nodding. "And yes. Well. I don't suppose some people would classify what we do as fun, but I love it. But you know that!"

"We'll have to see it. Even if we don't go in-" Though Rose was pretty sure that once she got there she'd want to try it, just to see what a bath in warm milk was like; she'd never tried it before- "and no, I don't have hayfever." She lifted her head, an amused smile on her lips. "Though it's nice to know you're thinking of my well-being."

"Yeah, well, I know a certain Queen who was not amused," he pointed out, letting his legs swing back and forth in the water in a rather childlike manner.

"Yeah. Well, if the thought of floating about in dairy products doesn't appeal, the sand is unbelievable. I don't know why I didn't suggest it before!" he admitted, although he had a feeling it probably had something to do with the possibility of needing to remove a lot of his clothing. Apparently that wasn't so much a problem anymore!

"Your well-being? Nah, I just don't want to be the freak dragging around a puffed up snot-face," he teased.

"Not at all," she replied, laughing. "Oh, but it was fun! Well, the werewolf was rather terrifying but we got out of it!"

"The sand? What's so special about the sand?" She wasn't entirely sure why he hadn't before, either, but then again...It wasn't exactly like they'd ever discussed hanging out in places where they needed to get naked. Not that they were even discussing the nudity bit now, even.

"Oh, gee, thanks," she retorted, rolling her eyes. "I see how it is. You wouldn't want me around if I were ugly, would you?" She stuck out her tongue, only teasing him and then leaned back and closed her eyes.

"Still, we got knighted out of it, so it couldn't have been that bad!" he added.

"Oh, it's just that really white sand, almost silver, and it's the softest sand you'll find anywhere. Really, like walking on feathers. Or clouds." He sighed softly; talking about the places they'd go to in the future was about his only chance of staying sane while trapped on the planet.

"The truth is out! You're a trophy companion!" he laughed, sticking his tongue out at her in return. Of course, she was so much more than that, but he couldn't help but tease her.

"No, I suppose not," she replied with a laugh.

"Really?" she asked, smiling as he talked about it. She hoped they were able to make it there; she didn't even want to think about the possibility of being stuck there forever. She couldn't even get through to call her mum; much longer and she just knew that Jackie would be worried.

"Trophy companion!" She scrunched up her nose and shook her head. "I can't believe you'd say that to me."

"Yeah, beautiful. We need to start going to beautiful places. I mean, Earth is great, but we do seem to be making a habit of it. And satellites orbiting it. And new versions of it. Next stop, Florana," he insisted, giving a decisive nod. "Although... yeah, best call your mum on the way. I don't fancy another slap!" he added.

"Awww, you know it's not true," he insisted, leaning to place a few kisses on her cheek in quick succession.
