Entry tags:complete, day 5, rose tyler, the doctor

Who? The Doctor & Rose
Where? The TARDIS, then hiking and hot-springs.
When? Day five, late afternoon.
What? Just chilling and chatting.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe. Nakedness within.
Status: Complete, threaded.

Stressed didn't quite cover it. The TARDIS was stuck, it was undeniable now... and not only was she stuck, but with every day that passed the Doctor was convinced she was losing a little of her glow. Sometimes, when he let pessimism take over, the Doctor was almost prepared to accept that she might be dying on him. He couldn't let that happen, not like this, not because of some stupid planet that got bored.

He'd been fiddling about with the circuits for a good couple of hours, and still he had next to nothing to report. Sliding the floor panel back into place he moved somberly to the control panel, his face feeling a little naked without its trademark cheshire cat grin and his hearts feeling heavy in his chest. He ran his hand affectionately along the top of the panel, sighing softly before he started to start up yet another systems test. "Come on, love. I only want you to move forward five minutes in time, and five metres to the south," he practically whispered to the unusually unresponsive ship. The engines purred, seemingly trying to soothe his anguish and assure him that she was trying her best. "I know, love," he said, as if he were really talking to a close companion, which in many ways he was.

The central column light up, the familiar whirring sound of the engines groaning into action. "That's it, beautiful... come on!" he encouraged. "Yes! Almost there! Come on!" he yelled with a little more enthusiasm, yanking levers with a certain amount of eagerness. "I'll settle for one metre! Please! You're so close!" he insisted, gripping the side of the console in suspense, that grin slipping onto his face just for a second. It quickly faded as the lights dimmed, and he glanced over to check the time on the scanner. "Never mind, love. We'll get there," he insisted, leaning to press a wet kiss against the metal surface.

"Well, you weren't very easy to impress, Miss Tyler!" he pointed out, although he thought that trait was rather something that drew him to her. She had so readily accepted the fact that he was an alien, she'd simply made a little joke about his age... she so quickly so herself as his equal, and he was glad of that.

"I'm glad you did, too. I'm glad I came back to mention the time traveling part!" he laughed, remembering how it had suddenly struck him that he'd forgotten to tell her the most important part. "You even love it when I get you stuck on stupid leisure planets?" he asked, half-joking, but with a definite twinge of guilt mixed in their somewhere. He knew it wasn't his fault exactly, but he hated not being able to reassure her that he could definitely get her home again.

"Oh, you know, if all else fails just try a nice cup of tea!" he suggested, grinning widely at her as they walked close together.

"Well. A girl's gotta have her standards, yeah?" she teased, poking him lightly in the side. She looked up as he mentioned the leisure planet, and she stopped in her tracks, tugging him to a stop as she stepped in front of him.

"Doctor- don't. It's not your fault. And we'll find a way out, alright? We've just gotta think positively, and not give up. We'll get out of here." One hand on each of his cheeks, she lifted herself up on her tiptoes to kiss his forehead and then moved back to his side, walking again.

"I'll definitely be sure to keep that in mind," she said with a grin. "Nice strong tea. Like my mum makes."

He stopped almost reluctantly, sighing softly and looking to the ground. His momentary melancholy couldn't last long, though, and as Rose cupped his face in her hands he couldn't help but smile. "I know. Course we will," he agreed, forcing himself to believe it. They had to, they just had to, no matter how long it took them to come to a solution they weren't the sort to give up without a fight. "We survived a planet orbiting a black hole, I think we can cope with a know-it-all holiday resort!" he told her, a little spark of genuine optimism flickering in his eyes as he started to walk with her once more.

"Good. Brew of resurrection. Undead infusion. Regeneration Remedy," he babbled, apparently trying to find a marketable name for her mother's tea.

Rose smiled as he did and nodded. "I think we can. We've faced worse, and you know? As long as we're together, we can do anything."

She snorted with laughter again. "I think I like Regeneration Remedy. It worked, didn't it? And just in time, too."

"Yeah! They're not even allowed to kill us! That's a definite improvement from the majority of the situations we find ourselves in!" he agreed.

"Regeneration Remedy," he repeated, sounding out each syllable as if they were brand new words to him. "Yeah, undead infusion sounds a bit like it might be made from zombie," he giggled. They seemed to be approaching a bit of a clearing, and the Doctor gave her an excited grin, speeding up just a little to make it into the opening.

"Definitely," Rose said. "It does. Like you've plucked zombie bits and dropped them into a cauldron and made a potion of some sort."

She burst into laughter as he sped up, and she began to jog along beside him. "What's up here?" she asked, knowing he probably didn't know any more than she did, and she slowed as they reached the clearing. "Oh, wow..."

"We've found... something!" he exclaimed, not entirely sure what it was that they had found. He breathed deeply, the air suddenly feeling a lot thicker, hints of a variety of mineral lingering in the air. "Huh, smells like radium," he said, as if that was the sort of smell everyone was meant to detect with a vague sniff of the air.

He moved with absolute no regard for personal safety, hopping over rocks and uneven ground. "Oh. That's weird!" he commented, finally drawing close enough to spot the hot spings.
