Entry tags:complete, day 5, rose tyler, the doctor

Who? The Doctor & Rose
Where? The TARDIS, then hiking and hot-springs.
When? Day five, late afternoon.
What? Just chilling and chatting.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe. Nakedness within.
Status: Complete, threaded.

Stressed didn't quite cover it. The TARDIS was stuck, it was undeniable now... and not only was she stuck, but with every day that passed the Doctor was convinced she was losing a little of her glow. Sometimes, when he let pessimism take over, the Doctor was almost prepared to accept that she might be dying on him. He couldn't let that happen, not like this, not because of some stupid planet that got bored.

He'd been fiddling about with the circuits for a good couple of hours, and still he had next to nothing to report. Sliding the floor panel back into place he moved somberly to the control panel, his face feeling a little naked without its trademark cheshire cat grin and his hearts feeling heavy in his chest. He ran his hand affectionately along the top of the panel, sighing softly before he started to start up yet another systems test. "Come on, love. I only want you to move forward five minutes in time, and five metres to the south," he practically whispered to the unusually unresponsive ship. The engines purred, seemingly trying to soothe his anguish and assure him that she was trying her best. "I know, love," he said, as if he were really talking to a close companion, which in many ways he was.

The central column light up, the familiar whirring sound of the engines groaning into action. "That's it, beautiful... come on!" he encouraged. "Yes! Almost there! Come on!" he yelled with a little more enthusiasm, yanking levers with a certain amount of eagerness. "I'll settle for one metre! Please! You're so close!" he insisted, gripping the side of the console in suspense, that grin slipping onto his face just for a second. It quickly faded as the lights dimmed, and he glanced over to check the time on the scanner. "Never mind, love. We'll get there," he insisted, leaning to press a wet kiss against the metal surface.

The Doctor scrunched up his nose, bobbing his head from side to side as he tried to picture just how old the body would have appeared on human terms. "Old," he decided was the only word that could really describe it. "You wouldn't have been so keen to get any tequila with me back then," he teased, popping another chip into his mouth with an almost boyish charm.

"Yeah! Give her a little boost!" he said, trying to be optimistic when he knew that it would likely take more than a shove to make her pierce through the suffocating atmosphere of Mirage. He glanced about the console room, taking a sip of his drink as he thought about it. "Not really. I think we might as well let the engines cool down a bit before we make things worse," he decided. "Let's finish up and go for a walk. We might be stuck, but there's still plenty to explore," he suggested.

"Are you sure?" Rose asked, her cheeks heating slightly at the reminder of their last trip to the bar. This...Whatever with the Doctor- it wasn't purely physical. Not at all. There was just...something about him- his being, his self- that drew her in. "You never know, Doctor."

She winked, then sobered. "We'll sort it out." Another chip and she smiled, brightly. "A walk sounds fantastic. I'd love to!"

It might not have been a purely physical attraction, but the Doctor would expect she would have to draw the line somewhere. He imagined that if ended up looking that like now that she would probably stay with him. But if she'd met him like that... "Well, I wasn't very friendly back then, either," he explained, deciding not to go on about his ancient appearance too much. "You'd have liked Four. I liked Four. Big hair and a lot of grinning, so not much different to this!" he laughed.

"Doesn't it just? Absolutely fantastic!" he repeated with enthusiasm.

"Is every regeneration different? I mean, I know you said that the cells change, but I mean...Your personality and everything?" She tilted her head, finishing off her burger and then reaching for her soda. "I'm sure I would have liked all of you."

"I wonder what we'll find," she mused, leaning back in her seat to finish off her chips. "Something exciting!"

The Doctor nodded slowly, trying to think of the best way to describe it. "Yeah. I notice a dramatic difference between now and the very first, but then it's hard to tell if that's just age of the regeneration," he commented. "Romana... I used to know this Time Lady called Romana... she started off as someone I couldn't stand to be around, and then in just one regeneration she became my best friend," he tried to explain.

"It's... horrible when it's the other way around, though. Worse than a friend dying, because they're right there but... they're just not," he said, his brow pulling into a look of slight worry... but it was gone as soon as he started to talk again. "The basics stay the same, though. We had a lot of philosophical discussions about it. And when I say 'we', I mean me and about five people, probably," he laughed.

"Fortunately, I just seem to get more and more fantastic every time!" he teased, giving her a wink.

Rose nodded, laughing a bit. "I suppose I could see that. Mum likes you better now, you know." She was teasing a bit- she knew Jackie worried about her traveling no matter which Doctor she was with. She tilted her head slightly, almost glad that he was sharing a little more about his past with her, even if it was just a passing mention of a former friend. She grinned at his next. "I don't know. I was rather fond of Nine..."

"I noticed!" he said of Jackie, laughing softly. "I can take a bit of getting used to, I suppose," he admitted with a little shrug.

The Doctor pulled a face that seemed to be a mixture between shock and insult. "Nine? Nine?" he asked her, mostly putting it on, but there was a slight twinge of anxiety somewhere underneath it all. She'd wanted him to change back... but of course, she didn't still want that. Did she?

"Nine's a... he's a... I don't know what he is, but it's not very nice!" he said pathetically, failing to come up with a reasonable enough insult.
