003: Plagiarism? Certainly not. [voice]
Good afternoon, fellow inmates. This is Light Yagami.

To better predict the pattern at which the stabilizer functions, I'd like to conduct a bit of a survey myself, just as Mister Holmes had done just a while ago.

If each of you don't mind, do reply to this post with the following:

1. Whether or not you are human. If no, please specify what you are, exactly
2. Your origin world or planet, and the respective country if any
3. Your gender and age

If you would like to remain anonymous for this survey, by all means, go without providing your name - it would not affect the survey results in any way. The results will be broadcasted later on, just as Mister Holmes has done. But in this instance, if you would like copies of the results, feel free to leave me your name, so I may send you a copy through the mail.

Thank you.

[ah, girl with giant robots] Hello -- Ah. I don't think I caught your name the last time.

Noted. And, I wouldn't think so. It's better than trying to be creative with responses, like someone else is doing.

Oh, I'm sorry! I'm Nakama.

Oh, well, I wouldn't lie for something like this. I think it's good that people are trying to understand this place a little better.

Nakama? As in 'comrade'?

If only everyone thought the same way you did. [with a sigh]

[She laughs again, a little uncomfortably.] It's just a nickname. My real name's Nakarai Mako, so the other pilots just condensed it. They liked nicknames like that - Kodaka Masaru became Kodama, that kinda thing. It doesn't really mean anything personal.

Well... I guess some people have been here a long time, and they've probably seen lots of people try stuff like this. You'd probably just give up after awhile, and stop seeing the point.

Ah. Would you prefer if I called you by that nickname, then?

I see. [doesn't mean he won't keep trying, though.]

Yeah, if you don't mind. It's kinda what I'm used to now.

Oh, I didn't mean you should get discouraged, though. You never know who'll come up with an answer that really helps, right? Even trying the same thing over again can have a different result sometimes.

Very well then, Nakama.

[something about what she's saying catches him] Has this survey been done before, then?

Oh, I don't know... I haven't been here very long. But it makes sense that really smart people [Enjoy that indirect compliment, Light] would try to figure this kinda thing out right away, y'know? So I just figured there are probably lots of people who ask questions like this, and then nothing comes of it.

There's... there's also some people who wouldn't want to leave. So they might not be as anxious to figure Acumen out as others would be.

I see. [but they're not Light. So expecting anything of them was pointless, anyway.]

Would you want to leave, then?

Well... [She tries to keep it hypothetical, but it's obvious that she's among those she's talking about.] ... I know some people were about to die in their world, and Acumen saved them somehow. So if they went back to their world, they'd probably just die. This is kind of... a second chance at life for them.

I... see. [he sounds as sympathetic as he can here, though it's all fake emotions - he could care less about criminals having to die if they were returned home - in fact, they were better off dead anyway.]

It doesn't really make sense, does it? If someone was gonna die anyway, why go to the trouble of saving them just to lock them up? They wouldn't be able to commit any more crimes if they were just left alone. [It's a question that's bothered her ever since she arrived. And since he seems so smart, maybe he can come up with some kind of answer.]

Perhaps the punishment was to keep that someone from dying, then. Some might be of the opinion that a hellish life is worse than death - though it probably wouldn't be the case of a facility like this.

Yeah... like death wasn't enough of a punishment. [Shivering a little.] It doesn't always matter what kind of place you put someone in, though... their thoughts can be a worse prison than what's around them.

[The nightmares. The nausea. The survivor's guilt. They'd be the same with bars locking her in or without them.]

[poor girl. Even a heartless asshole like Light sympathizes with you.] A matter of perspective, I guess.

Yeah, I guess it is. If you try to be happy... if you even believe that you can be... you've got a better chance of it. I didn't figure that out until I came here.

Yeah, I have. And I've got a friend from home here, which has helped a lot. [Can you see the affection dripping from every word of that second statement?]

A few. They're probably more 'casual acquaintances', than 'friends' though, I'm afraid.

[Nods. She isn't too quick to give someone the 'friend' label either, considering how important it is to her.] Yeah, I know what you mean. But you're pretty new here... you'll probably make more friends when you've been here for awhile.

That's for sure. Unless I went and did something that would make everyone hate me, that is. [jokingly. no plans for that anytime soon.]
