[ That's where he's wrong. Spike is frequently happy, deliriously so. He's probably felt joy most people never get the chance to. Dying was the best thing to ever happen to him. ]

Oh yeah, lots of things. Dog racing, Manchester United, track eight on Never Mind the Bollocks... people. [ Partially for reasons best left unsaid but also because he does care about people, emotionally and not just gastronomically. ]

Exactly what I said. [No, it really isn't hard.] It's obvious that not all worlds and dimensions are the same. I'm just curious about how things are in your world in comparison to my own.

I heard that souls are- or rather, aren't - a thing with the vampires where you're from. I guess that would be one difference.

You're right about that. [ He takes a moment to pat himself down for a cigarette, settling in for the long haul. ] Vampires are alive where you're from, aren't they? That's not the case in my world.

When a person is turned, they die. The soul goes off somewhere and a demon takes its place — that's what's keeping us walking and talking. That's what fills our hollow shells, what drives us to kill. Without a soul, no conscience. No remorse, no regrets.

It's pretty nice.

Yeah, they are.

[He won't go into all of the details as they probably aren't needed. Breathing, a pulse, warm skin, etc etc. Not to mention they have a completely different set of DNA than humans. Alive is alive.

There are plenty like that at home. Not the soul part, but the behavior and mindset. Many who only care for themselves and do whatever they want.

I suppose the closest there is to not having a soul, or along the lines of demonic, would be one of the classes of vampires. Where it differs is they have no will at all. They attack indiscriminately, acting purely on their lust for blood, and no sense of self.

[ Clever man. It doesn't really matter much at this point anyway, not since Spike got his soul, not as long as he's stuck here. As much as the demon still screams for blood, he can't do it. He turns down willing donors in favour of synthetic, in favour of second grade animal blood. He's being a good boy, which is why it's so much more hurtful when he gets shit for things he's no longer doing. ]

Can't say we got anyone like that back home. [ Not completely mindless, not without a will. ] People turn out differently. Some are more or less the same as they were when they were alive. Others... not so much.

[Not agreeing with actions that took place in the past, aside, he honestly isn't judging Spike for much at all. Sure, he can be exasperating, but Zero doesn't straight up hate him for anything. There's no reason to; it takes a whole hell of a lot for him to straight up hate someone. He also couldn't care less what Spike thinks of him, in turn, but all of that has already been said and done.]

Which is no real surprise. Although there is a class, the purebloods, who can control that sort of thing. They can wholly bind the lower level vampires, and humans, alike, to their will. Even compelling them to take their own lives. They also are the only ones capable of turning people into vampires. It's when the turn isn't completed do those aforementioned no sense of self vampires come from.

We have nothing like that. Some got special snowflake abilities, but it got nothing to do with class. [ More gypsy magic and the draw that is Dru. ]

Anyone can turn. Most people do accidentally. Siring is a different matter but it's not like it's hard.

It really is exactly that. [Not a lick of sarcasm in those words.] There's a lot of politics between the vampires, and hunters, alike. Do I or the others suffer? I don't know if I'd use that word, but everyone would agree it's a complete mess. Being in all black and white is the very last thing it is.

[In other words, your world sounds very straight up, Spike. Almost nice, even.]

Some are capable of any given power, commonly elemental based. Purebloods could be considered god-like with their sheer number of abilities, and how they're next to impossible to kill. I don't possess anything out of the ordinary, although I went through years of training before I was turned.

[Although he absolutely is still one of those Special Snowflake types, himself.]

Accidentally as in, if I drain someone dry without throwing away the carton- [ He mimes the snapping of a neck. ] -they'll come back as a vampire. Rookie mistake. More predators means less prey.

I find it really funny that you think I don't have vampire hunters in my world. Of course I do. I've been hunted every day for the past century, it's part of the gig. Vampires bite, slayers stake. It's a whole big song and dance routine but we don't make a big deal out of it.

It's just the way of the world. No rules.

[While he's never been hunted, there are certainly those who don't like him in the slightest. For the to-be president of the entire of the Hunters' Association to also be a vampire? It's an obvious given that the majority aren't very happy.

Not that Zero can blame them at all. His mentor and former guardian, the current President (and self-proclaimed adopted father of both he and Yuuki), his work partner and close friend, and a small handful of others are pretty much the only ones who are supportive.]

Where you're from does sound much easier.
