[There doesn't seem much to say to that, so he just nods. They both know how they feel about this, and they've discussed it to death. There isn't much point in going over it again, not when they're both sure. He shifts a bit, not quite sitting up but thinking about it.]

I think I might try and get cleaned up. Want to come?

Are you saying I'm dirty? [ Says the guy with raptor viscera all over himself. ] I'm not leaving you alone tonight.

[ So yeah, of course he'll come and maybe they can't share a shower tonight but soon they will and hanging around the bathroom while Ianto gets himself together is a decent taste of what that'll be like. ]

You'd better not. [He was still having the occasions nightmare about Tyki before this happened. He doesn't like to imagine how his attempts to sleep are going to go tonight. He stands up a little shakily, reluctantly leaving the blanket behind on the couch.

The apartment has roughly the same layout as Chuck's and he rembers where the bathroom was in hers so it isn't too hard to find. Maybe they can't touch but Spike can still look, not that he's pariculalry inclined to put on much of a show right now. He catches a glimpse of his red, tear stained face in the mirror and hurridly looks away, focusing instead on getting the shower turned on and removing the ruins of his suit.]

[ He follows closely, opting to hang out by the bathroom door while Ianto gets himself cleaned up. He knows what it's like to be around someone easily spooked and although Ianto isn't blabbering about how the sky is on fire, Spike still lingers with the sort of quiet anticipation he maintained around Dru. You never know what'll trigger something. You have to prepare for anything.

As for sleep, he usually doesn't get any until closer to sunup. Some habits die hard and in this case, maybe that's a good thing. He can keep watch. ]

Should get you some clean clothes in the morning.

I'll figure it out then. [That is one thing in this building he will not be thinking of Chuck for, thanks. He's seen what her husband wears and that is not happening.]

Anyway you're the one covered in blood. [He points out, stepping into the shower and gasping a bit at the hot water. After the chill he's felt since the first time he spotted Tyki stepping out of the shadows it feels almost scalding. Mostly though it's just nice to be able to scrub his face clean, try to erase all evidence of what that encounter reduced him to. He leaves the shower door partially open, both the make the conversation and the view easier.]

Yeah, but that's expected, coming from me.

[ Point taken, though. He takes a moment to peel off the t-shirt, nose wrinkling at how it sticks to his skin. Black cotton should be easy enough to rinse out in the sink and that's enough to get him home tomorrow. ]

Take your time. I'll rinse off when you're done. [ As tempting as that shower looks right now, he'd rather not be plastered against the wall of it when the bands kick in. ]

[Any other day the idea of trying to shower without touching would seem like a very tantalizing game to play but he's not up to it at the moment. The water feels good, makes him feel a little more human and awake, not so fuzzy with fear. How long as it been since the encounter and nothing has happened yet? They must be safe for the moment. Or at least he hopes they are.]

Do you really think we're safe right now? That he won't come back tonight?

Honestly? I'm not sure he's even here. We were on good terms, him and me, before he left. [ Tyki would let him know. ] I could try and call him. See if he's really around.

He was here. I'm sure he was. [He sounds so insistent at first but a note of hesitation creeps into his tone towards the end. He tries to think back objectively, without letting the fear influence his memories because now that he thinks about it he's fairly sure there was something off about him. Something wrong with his voice, especially. And there was something he read about last time this happened, that he can't quite put his finger on.

He steps out of the shower, leaving the water running for Spike while still wearing that look of concentration, like he's close to putting all the pieces together.]

[ Well, since Ianto is occupied with examining his grasp on reality Spike will just strip down the rest of the way and grab a quick shower. Emphasis on quick — he'll stay in there long enough to scrub the blood off him, hissing softly at how the water stings in the gash on his arm, but this isn't for pleasure.

Ah, fuck. His hair is going to go all curly, isn't it. No hair gel in this apartment. ]

We got any towels here?

[The curls will come as no surprise; he's already seen them on Captain John Hart, and he knows better than to say he thinks they're kind of cute. He passes over a towel, still looking thoughtful.]

The last time this happened multiple people reported running into something besides just the raptors. They said there was some sort of shape shifting creature out, something that looked like a persons fears. I read about it; Reid interviewed a few of them about their encounters.

Huh. Think that was it? [ That would make more sense. If it was Tyki, the real Tyki, then why would he leave soon as Spike interrupted? ]

I don't know. [Ianto admits, helping to get some of the blood off but using the towel to keep from actually touching. It seems to work alright and the barrier doesn't activate.] I want it to be true but I'm scared to believe it. I don't want to let my guard down if he is back.

[He makes his call, has his conversation, then he's back, still looking a little on edge. The shower helped but he's afraid to try sleeping. It seems sort of pointless when he knows he'll just be up with nightmares soon.]

I don't feel okay. I thought I was starting to get over what happened before and now this feels like I'm just back where I started.

[No barriers. He can manage that. He finds a sheet to wrap himself in, something to put a layer between his bare skin and Spike's touch just in case. Once it's in place he sinks down next to him, curling up in the pile of pillows and blankets he's made.] I know how to do it. Or I always felt like I could before. All the terrible things that have happened to me at home, I felt like I could just deal with them. Have them just be there, be painful, but keep going. Maybe this was just the last straw.

Everyone at Torchwood dies young. [Not fatalistic or dramatic or anything, just so matter of fact. He's watched it. Tosh and Owen and Suzie, not to mention the hundreds of people at Torchwood London.] It's easier sometimes just to keep your head down and keep going. It's not like any of us have much time to learn to live with it.

[Its why he doesn't want to leave this place. Because it's a way out, a second chance that he knows he doesn't get at home. Here he can have friends and go out and do things besides worry if today's the day is damn job gets him killed.] I guess now that I don't have that to fall back on I don't really know how to live with things like this. Before I just always accepted that they'd be over soon enough.

[ Such a damn waste is the only thing he can think about this, thoughts similar to what he's been thinking about the whole Slayer system lately. People dying young for no goddamn good reason other than to protect others without getting anything out of it for themselves. His deal is infinitely better in comparison. Who needs a soul if you can live forever?

Except, now he has a soul and with that comes a conscience and more thinking than could ever be good for him. It hurts just to hear this and he tightens his hold around Ianto's shoulders. ]

[Talking. It's what he told Jack he got from Spike when he asked what he gave him that Jack couldn't. He hasn't really been able to talk to him at all about what happened with Tyki. Maybe it was knowing that Jack has seen him die twice now, thinking it was perminant both times. Or maybe it's because of that stupid instinct he has to protect Jack because he knows he's the only one in the whole damn world who bothers to try. Whatever the reason, no, he hasn't talked about it. Chuck tried, and Kitty and Reid and Martha but he doesn't open up to people. When something hurts him this bad he always keeps the pain to himself. Another skill Torchwood taught him. He tried a therapist once, before Lisa died but it was a waste of time when he had to just lie about everything anyway. Or maybe it was easier to say that than to admit he doesn't know how to talk to people about things. If there's anyone he can try it with its probably Spike.]

The dying part really didn't bother me. It's what everyone seems to worry about but I've seen it happen to Jack so many times, and I knew it was going to happen to me. It was just everything else before. That's the part I can't get out of my head. [He pauses, swallows hard.]

We found these cannibals, once. Out in this village in the country. People were going missing and we thought it was aliens but it was humans, in the end. They trapped me and Tosh, and they had us in this basement and there was this fridge... [A long pause, because this is one of those bad things he mentioned, an entry on the list of Torchwood shit.] It was full of body parts. They'd butchered them, and it was so neat and organized, all the shelves and all. I keep thinking about that lately. About how I had to watch it happen to me.

Dying is easy.

[ Dying is nothing. Dying is relief from whatever's killing you. He knows that perhaps better than anyone, considering how often he's been on the killing side. Probably something else a therapist can't relate to. ]

And they say demons are bad. [ He mutters under his non-breath. No need for quips right now, or bitter resentment. You can do better, Spikey. ] Even back then, if I'd known what Tyki was up to I would've done something. There's killing people and then there's this. Angelus was big on that whole torture thing but it just... never sat right with me.

[ So, you know. For what it's worth. Not much, he guesses. ]

People are just as bad as anything else out there. [Dometimes he thinks that's why they get all the shit to begin with. They're not much different than the monsters.

He nods, because he believes that bit. They weren't all that close then but he thinks Spike means it even if he was friends with Tyki.] It was random. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. No one would have know what he was up to. [He's said it so many times but it's never reassuring.]
