[Day 329] In Bloom Event/Dance Mingle
[DAYTIME: Walking in a floral wonderland. Not to be confused with an actual wonderland. Completely different event. You could be anywhere and everywhere today and not escape the petals.

DANCE: The sector 2 garden is a little extra pleasant and inviting this evening. Gentle breeze, beautiful flowers, delicious hor d'oeuvres, sparkling punch, and music. And dry. Did we mention it's dry? Not a single flood as far as the eye can see. So, find someone and get out there and dance.]

(OOC: Event INFO. Feel free to have your mingle set up cover both aspects of the day.)

First, we take hold. Put this hand here, [She guided his right hand to the center of her back, right between her shoulder blades and slightly below them, but not quite all the way to her waist.] and hold your other hand out like this, [She guided his left hand out to the side so that her right rested on top of his upturned palm.] and I place my other hand here. [She put her left hand on his right shoulder.]

Now, you step forward with your left, and I step back with my right. Then, we step with the other foot diagonally. Like this. [She demonstrated, giving him a small nudge with her hand on his shoulder.] And then we bring our feet together. That's the one two three. Then, for the next part, it's the reverse. [She moved as she counted, having him move with her.] Four five six.

[He lets her guide him through the motions and ... okay. This is not like sword fighting. None of the undead warriors he summoned to teach him ever manhandled him into stances. But this is fine. This is fine this is fine.

He follows her lead, slowly, watching her feet.]

That's it. Now we just repeat. If you feel confident enough, we can add a turn and travel around the dance floor. But it's really not much more complicated than that.

[She noticed him looking down.]

I'll give you the first few rounds, but, after a while, you're going to have to look up at your partner.

Right. Sorry. [He does pick up on it fairly quickly - benefit of being a demigod, he supposes. Who knew you could apply battle reflexes to dancing? After a couple of rounds, he does look up from his feet.] How does a turn go?

[She chuckled a little, but nodded.]

It's okay.

[She paused in the dancing so she could explain the turn and show him step by step.]

For a turn, we're going to go to your left on the first step. [She stepped back with her right foot, rotating them a quarter turn over his left shoulder as he stepped forward on his left.] The next two steps are the same as before, in relation to our new direction. Then, on the fourth step, we do it again. [This time, she stepped forward on her left, guiding him to step back on his right again, and rotating them a quarter turn to his right.] And then the fifth... and sixth steps are the same again.

Then, we do that again, and we've gone around in a complete circle.

{OOC: because I'm a dork... lol}

[He carefully followed along, watching her steps, until he was sure he got it.] Okay, I think I understand. Is that really all there is to it?

Pretty much. When you don't have a coordinated dance area, it can be hard to do the traveling part. We might bump into other dancers if we try.

You did really good, though, and picked it up fast. Do you any other kinds of movement based things like sports or martial arts?

I'd rather not run into other people. But thanks. [He always goes a bit pink with praise, never too sure how to take it.] I, um, sword fighting, I guess.

Me, neither. [She nodded.] Any time.

[She nodded again as he mentioned the sword fighting. It didn't seem to phase her at all.]

That might be it, then. I notice that people who are used to being aware of body position tend to pick up on certain things easier than others.

I guess so. This is nicer than killing things.

Yeah. I'd agree with you there.

Um, so where did you learn how to do this?

My grandmother. She raised me and my sisters.

[Which might be part of the reason Piper felt the need to watch out for and make sure all the kids were okay.]
