[Day 329] In Bloom Event/Dance Mingle
[DAYTIME: Walking in a floral wonderland. Not to be confused with an actual wonderland. Completely different event. You could be anywhere and everywhere today and not escape the petals.

DANCE: The sector 2 garden is a little extra pleasant and inviting this evening. Gentle breeze, beautiful flowers, delicious hor d'oeuvres, sparkling punch, and music. And dry. Did we mention it's dry? Not a single flood as far as the eye can see. So, find someone and get out there and dance.]

(OOC: Event INFO. Feel free to have your mingle set up cover both aspects of the day.)

[ She issues a noise of acknowledgement. ] Seems only fair... since you peeked behind the curtain. There was little point in keeping you "dead".

That peeking, was that another computer failure?

[ Her expression takes on something dark and dangerous, revealing for a moment a glimpse of the creature she is underneath this flesh suit. ]

No. That was something else.

[He should tred carefully here, but he's also getting actual answers to things which is difficult to pass up.] May I ask what?

You may. [ She breathes light amusement, something not entirely human. ] I shouldn't even be talking to you about this, but... you probably already know this much.

This isn't the only prison. There are others, with other teams. That's what happened. It wasn't of our design.

[Maybe she's sincerely sharing information. Maybe it's all an elaborate game with goals he can't begin to imagine. Even if it is he's still going to follow up on it. What else can he do?] Did another team lose control and inadvertently affect us, or was it an act of sabotage?

[ It's actually nice to talk about work with someone who isn't sitting next to her in the office, spreading her spindly legs too widely. ]

Sabotage, I'd wager. It's easy to blame a malfunction, of course. They happen.

[Its a conversation he plans to maintain as long as possible.]

Do the various prisons not get along then?

[ Mary gives a half shrug. ] It's like any other work environment. You have people you get along with, and then the rest.

Ah yes. I know the feeling. [Although frankly it's hard to maintain those feelings for Owen now that he's dead for a second time.] But would they go so far as to do something like that?

[ She gives him a curious look. ] Do you think I'm capable of something like that?

[He could offer an easy placation but he knows she'd see thorough that. So he thinks about it for a moment before answering carefully.] I know that while I may object to being here my stay has never felt like a prison. You and whoever else runs this place don't have to keep us as comfortable as you do, or throw us flower themed parties. When it comes to punishment you have us speak in rhymes or organize volleyball games instead of, say, solitary confinement. I don't think you're a cruel person, but I don't know your relationship with the other prisons. Maybe there are complexities I'm not aware of. So I don't think you would sabotage us or other prisoners like us.

[ She gives a nod, seemingly satisfied at his response. Yes, that's what she's aiming for. Professionality. Their wellbeing is important to them. ]

I am sorry for what happened to you. That was uncalled for. Poor poor rehabilitation.

[Its more sympathy than he expected to get from her and he find he actually appreciates it whether she means it or not. Do they watch them down here? Is it hard to stand there and let things like that happen or do they not care? Do they have favorites, relationships they root for or personal successes they follow? It's an odd thought.]

Thank you for bringing me back.

[ He's not entirely off the mark with his thoughts. Mary can never truly relate to his life and experiences, much like a zoo keeper can never know what it's like to be a lion. She likes to roam with the beasts though, live like Goodall among the gorillas. Sometimes, she plays favorites. He's lucky to get a treat. ]

It would've been a waste not to. [ She steps in closer, leans in to plant a motherly kiss on his cheek if he'll let her. ] Enjoy yourself tonight.

[The kiss is a surprise, but then again this entire conversation has been. He watches her vanish into the crowd, reflecting that it's a good thing he's quite used to dealing with the strange. It feels a bit like being noticed by one of those lions; terrifying and dangerous but also just the slightest bit thrilling and certainly rather interesting. At the very least he has a lot to think about now.]
