Day 305 : MISTLETOE BOT MINGLE
[You won't hear them coming. You won't see their snare. The mistletoe bots are out and they're hunting you, two by two. You can run and you can hide, but eventually you will be caught, and then there's nothing left to do but kiss your way out!

Chapstick stations will be available.]

[The corners of her mouth twist in a smile as her eyes glaze over with memories so vivid they can almost be touched.]</s>

Her name was Toshiko. Programming was what she did. She could write and dechiphere code as if her life depended on it. And it did more often than not. Even if she didn't have all the knowledge in her head she knew just how to find it. I've never met someone who could do so much and thought she could do so little.

[ The description makes him smile in recognition. Not that he ever met Toshiko, but he does have one of his own. ]

Sounds a lot like one of my co-workers... Penelope. She's our tech kitten. [ That he uses her words for it is probably proof enough of how much he's missing her. ] Tech Analyst. There's nothing she can't do.

Tech Kitten? I don't think I've ever heard that before. I like it.

It's so strange. You think there are only one set of people in the world. But everywhere you turn there is always someone who "knows someone like that".

A word of her own design. [ Not his. Let's make that clear. He's not that cool. ] And it is... strange. I've practically found substitutes for my entire team in the time I've been here.

Maybe there are only a small amount of skills in the world and where ever you are you will other people who can give you what you thought only someone else could.

That's a theory. We already have confirmation about several versions of the same person, so why not different people with some common core traits?

I don't think people over all are very different. Not just here but everywhere. We like to think we are unique but we are not.

Some people would call that cynical.

What do you call it?

Astute. That's... how it is, isn't it? When it comes down to it. We think we're special, but really we're not.

I don't know if that's a comfort or not. Knowing that we are replacable. If I never get out I suppose Rhys can be happy again. And that's... Nice. Isn't it?

I suppose. [ Although... can he really say so for himself? ] Still... to us? As individuals, not as a... not as a statistic.

Some people really are unique.

So, "all people are the same except the people I know"?

Something like that, I guess. At least, our experience with them make them unique.

Oh no. It happens every few months on regular intervals. Soon enough you'll learn to watch the mistletoe forecast before you leave the house.

Month, month and a half, I'd say. If they follow the same intervals as previous.

I will take note of that and start watching the weather more. Up until now I have had the stance of "Oh well it's something."
