[He can feel the way she's reacting, as if she hasn't got nearly enough affection lately, and it makes his heart ache for her.

It also makes him pull away far sooner than he would like to - only a bare minute or so after he feels the soft shower of confetti on the back of his head - because he knows she'll hate him later if he takes advantage of her neediness.

He does it gently, though, gradually easing his lips away from hers and rolling back onto his side beside her, keeping an arm across her waist so she doesn't feel he's abandoning her completely.]

[More like she'd hate herself for it. She's already not feeling so hot about this day. She probably should have pulled a Reid and stayed locked up in the apartment, but it's hard to be in there too. It was their home together and his before it was hers.

She's quiet for a few moments after he rolls away, just lifting a hand up to brush some of the confetti from her face.]

But he relents.] But yeah, the monogamy is what I meant. Or at least... [He hesitates a second, but somehow talking about how he feels about Ianto doesn't seem so daunting any more, especially with Kitty.] The way I feel about him. The fact I've let myself feel that way about him.

[She gets it. She may not share it exactly, but she gets it.]

That part I knew before. [At home with her husband, but it was so different. He was so different than Reid. And he was a warrior like her. And that trust in him and their relationship is what killed her or would have killed her if she wasn't here. Sometimes it feels like it's her trust in Reid that's killing her now.]

But there were a lot of other things I didn't let happen before I got here. [Things she wouldn't let herself feel.] Like being friends with humans.

I guess that's up to you, but that's kind of how I eased my way into it. Getting closer to people like Allen who had abilities, but never called himself anything but human. And there was Oliver who was just really good with a bow and arrow. No powers. [And, yeah, there's Reid. Gifted, but not like her. But not that unlike her either.]

Not that they're around anymore.

[Not wanting to end on that note...] So, do you? Consider yourself human?

[He listens, interested by this insight into her mind - and her world. Not that her world is so different. People are always wary of people who are different, however that difference manifests.

He shrugs, smiling.] Mostly. But not totally. I never was really a normal human anyway, by the standards of your time. Humans have quite a few genetic improvements by the fifty-first century!

What kind of genetic improvements? [That term is something of a mixed bag for her. It's been used to describe mutation. It's also something Apocalypse strives for. He has his scientists doing inhumane research and experimentation with living subjects as he looks of ways of increasing powers or better utilizing genetic fodder. So many people tortured in the pens. The dead ones are the lucky ones there.]
