Day 305 : MISTLETOE BOT MINGLE
[You won't hear them coming. You won't see their snare. The mistletoe bots are out and they're hunting you, two by two. You can run and you can hide, but eventually you will be caught, and then there's nothing left to do but kiss your way out!

Chapstick stations will be available.]

[Does he have to say it?] You ... you know what word. Love! You don't just throw that into a conversation!

[ Uh. ] What's wrong with sayin' you love someone? It's not like I'm askin' you to marry me.

Because it means something. If you don't mean it - really mean it - you shouldn't say it.

Why would I say it if I didn't mean it, Nico?

Because... [He can think of a lot of reasons, and provide a list of the kinds of people who would do just that. Maybe even some names. But Aidan has never struck him as the type.] I don't know.

[He feel insecure, and stupid for saying anything in the first place.]

[ He doesn't say stuff he doesn't mean. He also loves very easily and deeply. It can get weird. ]

Does it make you uncomfortable if I say that to you?

[What's the right answer? Lie and say no, or...] A little ... some. Yeah. [He cringes a bit.]

Then I won't say it no more. Just... y'know. Remember that it's true.

[He feels like he should apologize. Sorry I can't handle platonic declarations of love - even indirectly.]

Thank you. [He says that instead, because Aidan's been respectful of his boundaries so far, and he doesn't know how to express how grateful he is for that. Except maybe ... Hug?] Can we, um...?

[It's been a stressful, terrible day. He throws his arms around Aidan and holds on for a bit.] Was your day okay, at least?

[ There's such a sense of victory when Nico hugs him like this, filling Aidan's chest with a happy warmth. He wraps his arms around the smaller boy in turn, idly rubbing a hand over his shoulder. ]

Yeah, it was alright. This is my fourth time around, so it ain't such a big deal anymore.

[It's still a little strange, but he feels more and more comfortable with this sort of thing - the hugging. The accepting comfort. Accepting it's okay to need and ask for it, that's harder.]

Fourth. You've been here a long time.

I have. Something like... hundred and fifty days? I think? 's kinda hard to keep track of. [ What with the back and forth in the memory department. ]

[Nico nods. That's a long time. He hasn't even dealt with memory hiccups, and he keeps losing track of how many days he's been here. Nowhere near as long.

Okay, hugtime over.]
Percy said the prison might be good for me, that I seem happier here. [Whatever "happier" means.]

[ That was a lot more hugtime than he expected, which is to say that he didn't expect any at all. ]

Maybe. It's... kinda nice in here. Definitely better than what some people are going through back home. [ A beat. ] I don't think there's anything wrong with likin' it here, or not wantin' to go home.

[He gives a short nod. That's kinda what he needed to hear.]

I have to go back. I've got important things to do, a sister - but things are so different here. I just ... I felt guilty. But that helps.

I kinda get it, you know. Th' way I see it... we don't even know how to get out of here now, or if it's even possible. Might as well enjoy ourselves while we're here, right?

For now, if it's pants, put it in this pile. If it's shirts, put it in that pile. Everything else can go go into pile number three. Check each one for damage and stains as you go. Anything that looks questionable can go in the Rag Box. [Kicks said box with foot.]

[It is kind of therapeutic. He can get lost in the repetitive motion.] I can kind of sew... but I'm really bad at it. I guess I'll have to find someone who can mend them, or toss them, or set them out with an as-is label? I don't know. Turn them into rags or something else? I haven't really decided.
