Day 305 : MISTLETOE BOT MINGLE
[You won't hear them coming. You won't see their snare. The mistletoe bots are out and they're hunting you, two by two. You can run and you can hide, but eventually you will be caught, and then there's nothing left to do but kiss your way out!

Jack may be a bit gung ho with his kissing, but he's not mean, and he can hardly miss the way Reid tenses up. He does give it a moment or two, in case he can encourage Reid to melt, but he doesn't push it any longer than it takes for confetti to start raining down on them.

Then he pulls back gently, a faintly apologetic smile on his face. He strokes Reid's cheek lightly with his thumb for a moment and then lets his hands fall as he steps back.

"Sorry," he says helplessly. "I really was trying to help."

Kind of. However genuine the intention, it definitely wasn't entirely an altruistic impulse!

There is no melting. Not this time at least, as much as he likes Jack and actually secretly enjoyed their kiss on Christmas all that time ago this is probably his absolute least favorite recurring day ever. Flustered and frustrated, Reid ducks his head and takes a few quick steps back for safety.

"Please don't do that again." Oh God, he's going to need a thousand showers at the end of the day, isn't he? Not because of Jack, but rather the lack of a girlfriend to balance out all this unwanted attention.

"It's nothing personal. I just... this is the worst day here for me. I'm a germaphobe."

Oh! Well, that at least explains the extreme reaction, to some extent.

"I'm sorry," he says again, rather more quietly and seriously. "I didn't know." Then he tilts his head, smiling faintly. "On the plus side, fifty-first century genes mean I don't carry a lot of germs. And even if I did - virtual environment! We never even really touched at all!"

And isn't that a sobering thought.

"Even taking that into account..." he makes a vague gesture. "Phobias are irrational by nature. It's kind of hard to shake out of it."

Intellectually he knows he's not going to catch some superbug and die right this instant, but it still makes him want to scrub down with bleach or something. Stupid, crawling feeling of uncleanliness.

"Does anyone actually like that you catch them on purpose?"

Jack blinks at him for a moment, and then shrugs. It's not something he's really thought about that much.

Which, really, is pretty odd for a guy who's normally so hot on making sure there's consent on both sides before anything happens. Perhaps it's just that touching and kissing and other forms of light foreplay are just so generally commonplace with Jack that he doesn't really think of them as something that needs consent.

"Mostly people seem okay with it," he says after a moment, and grins. "I can usually bring them round to it!"

"That's comforting." He gives a half-hearted smile. Consent issues are everywhere on days like today and if Jack wants to make it even worse than it already is... well, there's little Reid can do to stop it. Aside from giving Jack something to think about and he's already done that to the best of his abilities.

"I, uh... should probably get going before another one shows up. Seeing as you're a bot magnet and all."
