[ If anyone knows Damon -- truly knows Damon, it's Stefan and his brother would probably be telling him right now that the counter is as shiny as it'll ever get. He's a little bit of a neat freak, very much of a clean freak when he's feeling tensed and stressed out, and when things aren't going his way. He works out his frustrations by arranging and rearranging the liquor bottles. He fixes the broken coffee machine and changes the lightbulbs. He needs to feel useful, like his existence means something (because deep down he's feeling well and truly lost).

Damon never wanted to live for an eternity. But for over a century and a half, he believed he had a reason to. Then three and a half weeks ago, that reason turned out to be a complete lie.

And he had been nothing but a fool. ]

... Look what misery dragged in. [ He's so not about to bother looking up from where he's pouring himself a drink behind the bar. He'd been doing a good job so far of avoiding Katherine. Not that he thought he even needed to considering she'd done an excellent job of staying away for the past century. ]

We're closed. [ They're never. ]

Actually I also came here to get a drink too. [Katherine doesn't know what his problem with her is now but it's not entirely unexpected even though they were very loosely on better terms when sharing a common goal.

she pouts almost immediately at his words this time though looking both hurt and offended] You know we were getting along so much better back home too, I'm hurt that didn't even greet me when I arrived here. [It's an exaggeration and a partial lie but she saw nothing wrong with that at all here]

Of course Damon's not at all sure what to think of that.

I haven't seen you since 1864. I found a witch to undo the spell that opened the tomb, but you weren't in there. [ He basically went through a whole lot of trouble for nothing.

Somehow though he manages to fake a smile. ]

[For a second, Katherine thought that she couldn't have possibly heard that right because that meant it that this was his first time meeting her again after all those years. However, she remembers hearing about how people can be from different times and suddenly she smiles back] So this is your first time seeing me again—

It's simple, I faked it— which should be obvious to you now. I made a deal with the right person who helped me escape during that night. I had to make it convincing enough to throw off the person I've been running from and it worked at least until you just had to open it.

Ooh, my bad. It's entirely my fault for trying to save you from what I thought would have been an eternity of suffering. [ Guess who's not going to be getting any drinks served to her anytime soon? ] You could have told me the plan. You could have seek me out. [ She would have had plenty of opportunities to do so. ]

Why didn't you? [ Of course he'd be desperate to know. A part of him is even hoping to hear that maybe she didn't have a choice, that maybe she was doing what she thought was best for him. He might just be willing to forgive her and forget everything he'd been through because the wretched woman standing in front of him right now had been the sole reason of his existence for the past century and a half. He loved her. Died for her. Would have probably sacrificed his brother if it meant he could have her.

All she has to do -- is just give him one good excuse. ]

[Even before Damon responds, his words along with the questions he was asking of her were all too predictable considering she knew how he felt about her. Katherine does realize that she could have told either him or Stefan really but that would add more complications and the slightest slip up would have cost her and she definitely couldn't have that happen. She did have a preference for Stefan but she did love them both once and in that particular situation she was going to let that interfere with her plans or leave Klaus with more leverage to use against her either.

She wonders briefly how to answer that and opts for a slightly different approach maybe to have a bit of fun with the situation since he remembers significantly less than her and to have this work in her favor so he doesn't try to kill her right on the spot] You're right, I could have but I didn't have too much of a choice if I wanted the deal to go through.
