294 // beach mingle
[ Camping out on the beach is fun, right? Sleeping under the stars, lulled to sleep by the lapping of the waves and the rustling in the palm fronds. This isn't a refugee camp, this is a resort!

Several larger tents have been prepared on the beach. If this isn't enough there's a bunch of smaller ones ready to be set up, along with the permanent beach huts if tents aren't your thing. The makings of hot dogs and s'mores are available by the fire pits and if you have additional dietary desires, the convenience store isn't far away!

Enjoy! ]

(( ooc: Event information HERE! Please remember that if your character does not spend the night on the beach, they'll be forced to camp out on a park bench or in a coffee shop. The apartment buildings are off limits until next dayweek. ))

[She smiles, pleased he's chosen to give it a try.] It sounded like maybe I should go over the rules and instructions for how to play. [There's a slight question in her voice. She wants to help him along without being insulting.]

[ He doesn't want to admit that he can't just look up how to play, so he shrugs. ] If you feel you need a reminder.

[She smiles softly.] Yes, that would probably be helpful.

[She takes a moment to consider where to start and then begins describing the objective of the game and the pieces and what sort of moves they can make.]

[ At least he has no trouble comprehending her explanation. The game seems simple enough, but with plenty of room for strategy. He should have no problem with it. ]

I'll take white.

[She nods.] That means you'll go first.

Did you play many games when you were younger?

[ He shakes his head, absently fiddling with one of his pawns as he considers the best move to make. ]

That would have been unproductive.

[ Finally, he moves the pawn one row forward. ]

Were you that productive even as a child? [He gets a smile from her as she looks at the board and moves one of her own pieces.] You almost sound like one of my brothers though even they took time to play. They considered the competition helpful I think.

There was no time for play. [ He says it frankly, as though it's the most obvious thing ever. He can't even imagine how games would have fit into his schedule.

He examines the board before moving again. ]

[ He shakes his head and moves the same pawn another step forward. ]

No. What difference would that make?

It can be harder for children to stay focused and do more complex things at young ages. They're still learning and games help them do that.

By the people who raised you? [Maybe it's the way he speaks of it or maybe it's the way she grew up that doesn't make her assume parents were necessarily involved.]

[ He glances away from her as he tries to think about that. ]

I have been researching Gaia Memories as long as I can remember. It's because I'm special.
