Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

(OOC: OOC info. This mingle takes place in the Main shelter over the morning hours.

[ Oh god he has to practically bite his tongue not to lash out at being called nice. This is not a Scoobie mocking him about a future he doesn't want. It's not Sam trying to butter him up into a better man. ]

Doesn't that depend on whether you want it or not?

[She's definitely not any of those things! She's just picking a generic word for someone she finds pleasant to be around.]

I guess it does. And I don't think I do, even though he's sexy as all get-out. Don't get me wrong, he's not being an ass about it, it's just something he throws out even though he knows it ain't happening. Which I'm fine with. There's nothing like a good flirt to lift the old self-esteem.

All fine and dandy, then. No harm done. [ A smirk and a look of appraisal. ] Can't say I blame him either.

[She is surprised about the appraising look, and it shows. Then she snickers and shakes her head.] I tell ya, I've gotten more compliments from gorgeous men in the few weeks I've been in Crazy Prison Land than in the rest of my entire life combined. Were were you all when I was single?

Don't know 'bout him but I was keepin' busy on the West Coast. California. Lots of demon activity around those parts. [ No need to get into the nitty-gritty of things. ] Don't tell me all the blokes in your neck of the woods are blind?

No kidding? That's my old stomping ground! I grew up there, and was in Pasadena for a while before the Feds snagged me and reeled me across the country.

[But as to the blindness, she can only laugh and shrug.] I don't belong on the cover of Maxim, is all. Isn't that what most guys are after? [Derek sure seemed to be, most of the time.]

Only the daft ones. I mean, I'm not saying you're my type or anything but I've got eyes in my skull. Can't believe no one has snatched you up sooner. [ What are you doing to him, Penelope? Making him all nice and full of compliments. Must be the blood. ]

You ever been to Sunnydale?

[Mixed feelings abound since he's calling her favorite man an idiot, but he's also complimenting her so... net positive.] There was one guy I was with for a while, but he was more... like me. [You know, a geek. In fact, Spike knows EXACTLY the type of guy, right down to his Xander-y face.] Before that, the hot guy who took me out only pretended to be into me so he could try and kill me. Didn't do wonders for my confidence.

Sunnydale? Can't say I have, but it sounds like a typical Cali suburb if I were to guess by the name alone.

[ Don't let him know your boyfriend looks like Xander or he'll start to seriously question your taste in men. ]

I've pulled that trick a few times... always followed up on it, though. It'd be cruel, leavin' survivors. [ This is his odd way of agreeing. Believe it or not, he was bullied pretty harshly before his turning. ] And there's nothin' typical about Sunnydale... maybe at first glance, but it's a real hot spot for demon activity. Built on top of the Hellmouth, so I guess that's only expected.

[Whoa, holy bundle of incredibly mixed feelings, Batman. Garcia clearly does not approve of killing people, let alone using their vulnerability to lure them, but Spike... well. he's never hidden what he is. And like Tyki, she can't manage to think of him as a totally bad guy in spite of it. There's a sort of honorable nature about how Spike does what he does, the honestly he has about it.]

[She doesn't quite take the admission in stride, but a few seconds of sipping at her drink and she decides to get over it.]

I know a few people who wouldn't be too shocked to learn that the gates of hell are located in California. Personally, I'd have guessed somewhere along the Jersey Turnpike...

[ There's certainly some honestly beneath all that underhanded, lying piece of shit attitude he's got going for him. Honesty and honor and a whole lot of other words that he'd rather not take into his mouth, but can't deny that they apply. Despite his demonic nature, he knows right from wrong. He doesn't take pleasure in unnecessary cruelty, unlike Angelus.

You could almost mistake him from a good guy, some of these days. ]

The locals sure seem blind enough to it... suits me just fine, of course. [ Heh. ] That where you're operating from now? New Jersey?

[And Garcia is glad to just keep thinking of him as a good guy until she has reason to believe otherwise!]

Nah, we're down in Quantico in the most boring cement building in the whole of existence. Sometimes I travel around with the team but usually I hide out in my cave and bask in the glow of six monitors and do what needs doing.

But if you ever tried to drive in Jersey you'd totally agree with me.

It's been a while since I was up in those parts... last few years, I've stayed in California. New Orleans before then... did a spell in Brazil too, but it didn't last.

You get to see plenty of the world when you have all the time you could possibly ask for.

Oh yeah? You speak any français? I definitely dabble. [Unlike her surname would seem to indicate, she's not even a little hispanic. Too bad, she'd make a great Latina.]

So, I gotta ask what your favorite place in the world is. And admit that I'm picturing Mardi Gras, Brazilian Carnival and all those glorious sin-fests.

Kind of goes against my nature... [ Of him being hideously British. ] You can't help but pick up a few things, but I wouldn't say that I'm any good at it. Never really had a reason to be.

Mardi Gras' alright. Didn't really get th' chance to see much of Brazil, to tell you th' truth... not too sure about my favorite place, but the best time I've had was in Beijing during the Boxer Rebellion. As much as I like modern day life, those days were fun.

Holy crap, wasn't that, like, the turn of the 19th century? Geez, when you all say "immortal" you're not screwing around. [She's duly impressed! And wondering what she'd do if she had that kind of lifespan.]

So, what was so awesome about then and there?

I was turned in 1880, love. I've been around for a while. [ Just throwing that out there. ]

To explain that, you gotta know what vampires are like. We enjoy chaos and bloodshed. It's easier to get away with feeding too, without drawing th' attention of a mob. [ All true, although he has more personal reasons for liking China. ] That also happens to be when I bagged my first Slayer.

[Not for the first time, Garcia wonders why she likes this guy so much. He's basically a serial killer, one of the people she calls Sickos and tries to stop. But yet -- she can't think of him in the same way. It'd be like hating a lion for enjoying the hunt for its zebra dinner. What's wrong with liking a lion as long as it's not ready to maul you or someone you care about? And the fact that she has a long-time love of dark, vamp-related fiction isn't hurting either.]

1880, wow! I mean, damn, that's so cool. I'm probably imagining reality back then as more Steampunk than it actually was, but even so.

I'm guessing getting a Slayer [of course she knows what he means, every vampire story has a hunter in there somewhere] is like a rite of passage, or earns you major bragging rights, or something?

Something like that. [ Smirk. He does love talking about this so very much. Makes him all warm and fuzzy inside. ] Most vampires avoid th' Slayer best they can... I hunt them. Mind you, this is a girl who can take out dozens of us in a single night if she's at the top of her game.

Got two under my belt so far. Make it three and you've got a legend.

As long as you don't consider shameless gossip to be messing with her, I think we're good. Because the idea of me even trying to hurt someone is just laughable. I'm about as dangerous as a newborn kitten.

I'd like to meet her though, sometime! Just to say hey and compliment her taste in men. [Assuming she's not anti-human or something.]

Believe me, if you tried she'd rip you to shreds before you'd even have the time to blink. I consider myself a pretty big bad, but I got nothing on her. [ No shame in admitting it. ]

I think she'd like that. Can't hurt meeting new people, can it? [ Rose is positively the most pro-humanity vampire he's met without being sickeningly so. It's an odd match but one that has worked well so far. ]
