Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

(OOC: OOC info. This mingle takes place in the Main shelter over the morning hours.

I am... uncertain of how to proceed. There are multiple systems and components which have been affected, and there are a number of means by which this may have been accomplished. My self-diagnostics also appear to have been compromised, as despite my obviously impaired condition they do not report any issues. Additionally, none of our equipment which may have assisted in investigating the matter appears to be present.

[ He and Seven have spoken about it, and there have been some worrisome issues raised. How many different things have been altered, what could potentially go wrong in trying to address them without knowing what they're dealing with... ]

I am, however, most appreciative of your offer.

Mm. [That is the noise of a concerned friend, yes.] It would seem this place's history of tampering with our intellectual and emotional selves is repeating itself. I am sorry, Data.

Perhaps if the problem persists, it might be helpful to have someone examine your components, just in case. It's possible a visual examination will yield some information that the diagnostics do not. [She thinks for another second.] I regret that Pink is not here with me. If he were also acting oddly I would be easier able to determine the cause, and perhaps devise a solution.

If it persists, it is something that will need to be done. My core processing functionality, my ability to think - to analyze, record, store, and access information - has not been affected. I am capable of functioning, I am merely... limited, in doing so.

[But he frowns, troubled.]

Was Pink not taken in the transfer to this facility?

I'm glad of that, at least. But it is troubling, indeed.

[With regards to Pink, that's a bit more troubling.]

No, he wasn't. I imagine they saw him as more of a pet, or perhaps something non-sentient. [She seems vaguely, if politely, insulted by the idea.] I suppose if something isn't done I shall have to request him and hope for the best.

[ It's impossible for Data to hide his displeasure at that statement. Let's just say it touched on a nerve. ]

It does not seem unlikely that he might be viewed in such a sense. I do hope that they are able to recover him uninjured.

Thank you, as do I. While I have built other haros in the past, it's not the same as having Pink with me.

In the meantime, I suppose I shall have to turn my attention to what can be done. There isn't much just now, but I worry a bit that with the lack of entertainment, certain people may get violent. [Like Sougo, who tends to bite off more than he can chew.]

A valid if troubling concern.

[ There is no hesitation in his agreement, just concern. ]

Is there anything with which I can provide assistance?

Mm, there is. [Even if there weren't, she'd come up with something. People need to feel useful at times like this, and she expects that's especially true of Data.] Our rations and supplies are meager at best, but I'm sure you have a vast knowledge of how to utilize such things in multiple ways. Things such as self-defense and also creating some necessary items that are lacking. [Like undergarments, but she won't quite go there.] We need much of the rations for food, of course, but even making some more interesting recipes might help hold off cabin fever.

[ He gives a slight nods. ]

You are correct; though not part of my initial programming, survival tactics are part of Starfleet training. While some more advanced courses were not required at the Academy, it did not seem unwise to store all available information should I someday need it. Fortunately, I can still access my memory banks without issue. I would be most happy to assist with any such efforts you would like to undertake.

I have also been provided with rations along with the other inmates. As I do not require them, I have been sharing them with those who do.

That's kind of you. [While others might see such an action by an android as merely logical, she sees it as generous.]

I suppose the first thing would be to determine what we most need. My first thought is for sterilized bandages and basic medical equipment, if we can create some. I don't especially like the feel of this place, and it makes me wary of the hospital -- not to mention, if we're punished for injuries like in the other dome, it would be wisest to avoid sending people there unless we must.

There is no reason for me to keep that which I do not require, particularly when our supplies are so limited.

[ He sees it as logical, himself; he has nothing to gain by hoarding rations. But his response isn't a dismissal so much as it is as modest a form of acceptance as possible. ]

I would agree - there is nothing about this facility which makes me inclined to trust the care they would provide to those who may require it. The lack of a comprehensive set of rules is also suspect; whatever difficulties we may have faced in MarinaNova, there was at least a degree of understanding about that which we were dealing with. We are faced largely with uncertainty here. I believe that the less we must rely on that which we do not provide for ourselves, the better off we will all be.

[Potato potahto, he's giving to others while expecting nothing in return and that makes it generosity in her mind!]

Quite right. I am inclined to believe that is a result of this place being rather haphazardly arranged for us. Which therefore means that the situation with the attack on the dome was neither anticipated nor as controlled as was indicated.

We have only small tidbits of information to go on, but used correctly perhaps we can turn things to our advantage.

It is possible, since it would appear that the transfer of inmates to this facility was not entirely an expected turn of events.

I am curious, however, about the fact that this facility exists, and appears to share some form of affiliation with MarinaNova. Curious that there do not appear to be inmates other than those who were transferred, but one is nonetheless forced to wonder how many similar facilities there may potentially be in operation.

I would imagine there are several, at minimum. Based on Sentience's alleged promotion, there must be others. But the conditions here are so very different. The others might be similar in basic structure, but I wonder if they're not truly comparable.

Not to say I'm happy with what was going on at MarinaNova, but it wasn't so bad as this.

I would be interested to hear more about Sentience and this promotion - the information I have acquired on the Marina Asylum facility is less extensive, given that I was never there personally.

However disparate the conditions are - and despite my own lack of biological need, I cannot by nay means disagree that they are highly undesirable in Squall - the fact that there is a network of facilities such as these, the full extent of which is not known, is certainly of note and relevant to determining the complete, true nature of MarinaNova.

[ And here ha pauses, quite literally with his mouth open a moment, before he purses his lips and gives a small nod, brows furrowed. ]

Of course, such speculation is perhaps best addressed after we have dealt with more immediate needs.

Mm, quite right. We should perhaps find time to discuss the relevant theories and implications at a more convenient time.

For now, I greatly appreciate any thoughts you might have on making proper use of our limited resources. I'm planning to spend some time in the kitchen facilities doing a few tests.
