Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

(OOC: OOC info. This mingle takes place in the Main shelter over the morning hours.

"She sounds like the perfect mom-type of person." Dawn smiles at the image he had painted. "I mean, you know, there are mothers and then there are mom-types. Two completely different things."

Peter nods, his head bobbing like one of those dogs on the dash of a car. "Yeah. I got pretty lucky that way." He grins, his thumb stroking over the knuckle of her first finger. "What about you? I mean, your mom. Was she a good mom-type?"

"Yeah she was amazing. She had a tumor and died from a brain aneurysm." She shrugged, looking down to their joined hands and focusing on where his thumb moved over her skin. That was nice. "It was rough. Cause then my sister died and for awhile I was by myself. And even after she came back she was kind of checked out. So... you know, I'm used to alone time."

Peter knew that Dawn had lost her mother. They'd discussed it very briefly so he didn't know how she'd died. He nodded, his expression one of sympathy. He squeezed her hand a moment before going back to stroking his thumb over her knuckles.

He did not know that Dawn's sister had died and come back. That would normally cause a lot more 'explain please' sorts of comments out of him, but right now didn't seem to be the time to question her about some of the supernatural elements of her world that aren't in his.

"Well if you get tired of alone time, you know where to find me."

In other words, she didn't have to be alone here, but he also understood that sometimes alone time was a good thing. He'd grown up an only child with 'parents' that were older than most. On top of that, he'd been a weird child that hadn't made friends easily. He'd gotten very used to playing by himself and being alone.

"Well, while I am a master of holding entire conversations with myself or inanimate objects, I have fun talking to you." She's trying to make light of her sudden shift in mood. The change of scenery is obviously throwing her off. Maybe because there are none of her comforting things here aside from her people. And fewer things to distract her from the fact that some of those people who are hers don't seem to give a crap about her.

"Believe it or not, Peter talks are way more interesting than conversations with my diaries."

"See, I'm going to take that as a compliment." Peter grins at her. If it's any consolation to Dawn, Peter is here all alone with the exception of the friends (the few) he's made here.

"And you're way more interesting than talking to myself, or the walls or you know other things."

"You mean you talk to dead space too?" She looks surprised by the prospect. "I mean when you're alone. You get your chat on with yourself?"

"Sure. Why not? I mean I'm a good listener," he joked with her then shrugged. "Yeah. I'm an only child. I didn't exactly fit in at school...I kind of had to rely on talking to myself. It was that or my imaginary friend, George and I figured seventeen was way too old for an imaginary friend so I had to let George go last year."

"Poor George. He probably misses you." She was about to go into how people could think things into existence and that George might have become real, but this place is already creepy enough without her adding those thoughts on top of it. So she keeps it to herself. "But anyway now you have me and we can be the best of friends. I'm a good listener too. You learn to observe and listen when people forget you're there most of the time. It's a handy-dandy skill."

"Nah. I'm sure he's moved on. There were other kids on our block. He picked up some one else to play hide and seek with." Peter grinned. The nice thing about Dawn (well one of them) was that he never felt ridiculous when he started talking.

"I'd like that. The best of friends thing. Well the other part too. The listening part. Not that I--I feel like I need to talk. Just--you know. Like you said: handy-dandy."

He'll just grin for a moment and then:

"Oh. I can listen too. I mean--I do. I can. If you need to talk. Confess. Whatever. Just want to--to ramble and I'm your guy. Person. Friend. You know."

His grin is contagious, and she's super thankful for that in this place since she's been a little freaked out about it. Dawn has never handled change very well. Especially when things changed for the worse. To thank him for being so cute and sweet and nice and normal, she leans over to place a soft kiss to his cheek at the corner of that smile.

"Just for being you. Cause you I like... wait, reverse that. I like you."

A smile slinks across Peter's face when she presses a kiss ot his cheek. He turns his face to turn the cheek kiss into a kiss on the mouth. Just a light one.

"I like you too."

Dawn's smile turns into a silly flirtatious kind of thing after that quick kiss that made her heart skip a beat. "Do you like me like me or do you just like me in a general sense kind of like?"

God it's hot in here. Are you hot? I mean I'm hot. I think they cranked the heat up to like--like a billion degrees.

Yeah, it's the kind of 'billion degrees' heat that comes from being flustered and embarrassed.

"Oh. Yeah. Definitely. You're--yeah. That's--Yup."

Really. He'll be able to form full sentences sometime soon. His brain is busy whirling off into a billion different ways. He's thinking that if he likes likes her he probably needs to tell her about Spider-man, probably eventually. Maybe even sooner than later, but before he decides to tell her about Spider-man or even go further with the like liking, he needs to decide if he's got enemies here: personal spider-man enemies. He doesn't want her to get hurt, not the way Gwen was hurt.
