Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

That's easy for you to say. It's unlikely that you've experienced what it's like not feeling like you're your own person.

[Uh oh, this calls for a mini lecture session!]

When you're an identical twin, assuming others have gone through the same type of thing, people think that just because you are identical in every way, that you're the same person. They assume that there's nothing special about you, except that you're twins. They assume that it doesn't matter which of us you befriend, because they think we're exactly the same person. They think that there's nothing that makes us who we are. Twins are not everything that we are. Not even our own mother can tell us apart. Don't you know how horrible that feels?!

We're our own people with our own thoughts and feelings, just like everyone else. And if I dye my hair to provide separation between us to help others get to know us as different people, as the individuals that we are, I expect my wish to be respected. In this case, however, it was not. I don't care if Kaoru is not here. I did it for the both of us, and people need to know that this is not just a matter of changing the color of my hair.
