Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

(OOC: OOC info. This mingle takes place in the Main shelter over the morning hours.

[ piter knows what roxy is feeling all too well, and when he sees her he can't help but note a degree of it in the way she moves, the way she carries herself. the worry, the discomfort, the building fear. ]

No antique bourbon in your rations, I see.

[ obviously, the correct thing to do is taunt her about it. ]

Huh...?

[ Roxy doesn't get it for a second, but after a moment she scowls as the taunt registers for what it is. But she's aware she's in a bad mood, and aware she could maybe be wrong. So she tries to reply pleasantly. ]

... Never been too big a fan of bourbon, anyhow.

I seem to recall you likening your "smoothness" to "antique bourbon." [ looks like his mentat memory is still on par, at least. ] However, you currently appear somewhat rough around the edges.

[ Ohhh, okay. That makes sense now. But god, he does not sound a lick concerned about her. And pointing out that someone's not feeling great while not actually giving a damn just feels smug. ]

... Yeah, I am. Hangover's a bitch. But. Look, I dunno what your problem with me is, but I'm not in the mood to put up with shit. I feel awful and I'm not gonna let you try to make me feel worse. So ciao, loser, I'm walking off unless you decide you're gonna quit being weird.

[ she's met with a soft chuckle and a slight shrug. she's quite amusing, he'll give her that, but he does have a bit of a problem with her. there's a certain resentment he feels toward those who can leave their addictions behind, but it isn't yet clear to him who he resents more— those who have successfully quit or those who can but choose not to. ]

So I see. [ he doesn't doubt that she'll walk off, though he's terribly reluctant to "quit being weird." he's willing to offer some small, cold civility, though. ] And I see as well that there is no telling exactly when we might leave this wretched place.

Withdrawal is not a kind thing. [ the way he speaks is nonchalant, but it's clear that he knows what he's talking about. ]

[ She appreciates his sudden civility, but feels uncomfortable regardless. She has been forcibly not thinking about it. Not letting herself spare a thought for it-- the fact that they don't know how long this will be. ]

Yeah, it all kinds of isn't. ... Though, you know. You don't sound like you don't get it. Wouldn't have thought a put together gent like you'd have a vice.

[ "a put together gent"? why, that's a new one. and far a more flattering one than the ones he usually gets. he smirks. ]

Every man has his vice. I merely do not wear mine on my sleeve.

[ because he kind of wears it in his eyeballs, instead. he's never found the need to cover the staining with contacts; perhaps he considered it once, many years ago, but he ultimately decided against it. that would be like an admission of defeat. it would be acting ashamed, and he does not consider himself weak enough to be pressured into showing such shame. ]
