Day 221 — Morning mingle : Main shelter
[Wake up and smell the lack of coffee. You're on a bunk bed. Maybe you're a top and maybe you're a bottom. There are five other people in your room. Maybe they're friends or enemies or faces you barely recognize if at all. It doesn't matter much. You can leave this room and you don't need to come back to it.

You should get your rations though. You're probably hungry. You're definitely a little sluggish of body. What happened to that bruise you got sparing yesterday? What happened to your newly dyed hair? Mystery, mystery... Move along. Find the public bathrooms and do your business with a hundred of your closest friends.

Find the kiosk and get your rations. Careful not to let anyone steal them. You won't get more until tomorrow and the bots won't care. They aren't here to hold your hand. If you get sick or hurt and they deem it necessary they will take you to the hospital whether you wish it or not. But why dwell on such things? You're here now and you might as well enjoy it. You even get a free day today.]

Oh sure. Reluctantly. [It's said like she very obviously doesn't believe that. But she also follows it with a quick nod of agreement just because it's cool to be a reluctant hero to Spike, obviously. She's still looking at him as if he knows exactly what needs to be done here though, the same way she looks at Buffy.]

They have stuff for the vampires to eat. Right? I mean there's no chance of the vamps going all blood lusty?

I'll have you know I wasn't exactly plannin' on setting myself on fire today. Hasn't really been a problem until now. [ Yeah so maybe he didn't think about artificial vs real sunlight for a moment there. ] Besides, what would you have done? Grilled marshmallows?

Stop caring? [But give her a second because that one hurt, a reminder that he doesn't give a shit about her. And Dawn being Dawn, and the situation being what it is, she can't help that tears fill her eyes at the reminder.]

You know what? You're the one with priorities of the screwed up. You... you... peroxide brain damaged... something really mean that I can't think of right now cause I'm so... mad! [Or hurt and upset. Before any of those tears can fall in front of Spike, she's going away from him and back toward her sister. But before she's too far away she tosses a bald faced lie back behind her.] Whatever. [ Saying that he doesn't care at all would be the lie of the century. He does, about her and Buffy and far too many others and that bothers him to such a degree that he needs to pretend that it's not true for no one's sake but his own. Of course he doesn't care. They can burn in hell as far as he's concerned. He's the Big Bad for crying out loud!

There's something satisfying about watching her walk away. A small victory, perhaps. There you go, Spike. One more tentative bond severed. You don't want to go down that path. ]
