Ninety years isn't that long. [Not when you've lived as long as she had. And especially when she spent so much of it in a coffin, forgotten to him thanks to her brother.

It bothers her that Stefan got to forget her and move on and live life but she stayed trapped in a coffin, frozen in time like some fairy tale princess. Except there was no true love's kiss to rescue her.]

[Because, really, why does she even hang out with him? Family is important, he knows that, lives with it, but he avoided his brother for a long time when things were ugly. Rebekah should do the same.]

[And then his hand slips up to rest against her cheek and jaw, the tips of his fingers in her hair, and he presses his lips to hers in a surprisingly gentle kiss.]

[Why she stays with Nik after everything is complicated, to say the least. She had promised always and forever a thousand years ago and mostly stuck to it. It hasn't gotten her much in the end, but it's the only sort of life she knows.

Still the weeks she had spent here alone before Nik showed up had been freeing. This is the secret she keeps for herself.

At the request, a smirk tugs at her lips.]

No promises.

[It surprises her, how gentle he is. It's not what she's expecting and it catches her off guard. But she recovers quickly, letting a hand come up to the back of his head as she pulls him in closer, deepening the kiss as her lips begin to part.

It's familiar and not all at the same time. The last time Stefan kissed her he had been trying to trick her, still hiding Elena from her and Nik. At least this time they're on the same page, for better or for worse.]

[He understands complicated, and he knows what it's like to hate family. Because as much as he's hated Damon in the past, he still can't even think about losing him.

Because they used to be so much more. Because it's the only thing left from when he was human. Because he's his brother. Lots of reasons. He's just lucky that Damon hasn't completely lost it, and that he hasn't either.

Not recently, anyway.

He doesn't have any reason to trick her, no ulterior motive other than doing what the bot wants and to prevent from being crushed. Still, kissing her brings back memories, ones that had lay dormant a long time, both due to the passing of the years and the fact that, for most of them, Klaus had hidden them away.

They'd had fun. He'd liked her. Quite a bit, actually. And this was a stark reminder to that fact.

As she pulls him closer, her reciprocates in kind, his mouth moving with more purpose. Because as good of a kisser as she is, he still doesn't exactly trust her, and being this close to her has its own share of dangers.

~~Though he'd be lying if he said that wasn't a small part of the appeal.~~]

[Rebekah hates Niklaus as much as she loves him -- that's always been her problem. No matter how awful he is, he's her brother, and after going weeks here in Marina thinking he was dead -- gone forever -- it's harder to hold on.

But right now, she's not thinking of her brother. She's not thinking of anything except how Stefan's lips feel against hers. She spent ninety years in a coffin, for her, their time together wasn't that long ago. It's fresher, making the familiarity easy to give into in the moment.

Her other hand rests on his chest, fingers curling around the material of his shirt. There had always been a rush being with Stefan back then, he was dangerous, like she was. It was always part of the appeal.]

[He pulls her a bit closer as he feels her nails graze lightly on his skin through his thin shirt, lost in the moment, though the back of his mind is still waiting for that pop of confetti. This reminded him of when they'd been together, when he'd been someone he no longer wanted to be.

Remembering it now, he thought that Rebekah may have been the best part of that era. He could do without the rest, but he'd liked her. Perhaps even more than liked her, it was hard to say. Blood had always come first.

Thing could never be simple, could they?

And then finally, the bot makes it's signature noise, showering them in a spray of brightly colored paper.]

[She had loved Stefan, Rebekah knew that then and she knew it now. She had loved him enough to want to leave her brother behind. In a life when she was constantly on the run, she had felt alive again with Stefan. She thinks those times in Chicago were the last time she was truly happy.

But things are never simple. They never would be.

Finally, they're being showered with confetti and she breaks away from the kiss, letting her hands drop back to her sides as she takes a few steps back, not saying anything just yet.]

[Just another thing to add to the list of reasons why Klaus sucks. His life would have no doubt ended up much differently if they hadn't been separated back then.

The confetti, followed by her dropped her grip on his shirt and backing away pulls him immediately from his thoughts. He nearly reaches up to touch his fingers to his lips, but stops himself.]

Thanks for keeping that pain free.

[It's both a joke and serious. She has every reason to be angry with him.]

[Things could have been really different if he hadn't been compelled to forget her, if she hadn't been stashed in a coffin for ninety years. But neither one of them were given that chance or choice -- Klaus doesn't allow that sort of freedom in people's lives.

At his words, she's not entirely sure why she kept it pain-free, she certainly won't be giving the same free pass to Damon, but she tries not give it too much thought or weight.]

Consider it a one time only free pass.
