Action :: Forward dated to Early Evening
[The Blood Shack has been redecorated for the evening. The lighting is red and the decor is very Moulin Rouge. The bar has had a facelift of sorts and in the spirit of a costume party is featuring 'candy' flavored shots such as Skittles, Sweet tarts, Caramel Apples, Nerds and Tootsie Rolls. All other 'normal' drinks are available at the bar as well as a selection of synthetic blood. The decor continues in the seating arrangements. The entire room, including the dance floor, stage and platform where Eric's throne sits is bathed in red light. Lording over the entire affair is Eric, dressed as a Viking king. Instead of the helm, he's got a crown made of gold foil and cardboard. His weapons are the plastic sort and he's opted to go bare chested rather than attempting to make any sort of chain mail. He has a faux polar bear throw across his shoulders and is wearing a long, blond wig as well as a fake beard.

Enjoy, mingle and come as you want to be.]

ooc:: Mingle, start threads and make general merriment. This is all pre-blackout. On Thursday evening, I will put up a post blackout thread. Any questions? Let me know

[ After last night and talking to Damon about going home (feeling like a part of her doesn't want to), after everything that's happened at home, and here, everything -- Elena came to this party to actually take some load off. (Plus Caroline's involved, and where Caroline's involved, Elena will always be for support.)

So: seeing Rebekah isn't a surprise, and and it was definitely a possibility. Elena's eyes only glance at the other girl -- linger only a moment to see her, feel the emptiness she wishes she could regret (or wishes she didn't), and take in Bek's state of dress.

Obviously, no matter what words were exchanged or what truce has been put in place, the tension between them isn't about to just dissipate.

And neither are their mean girl political campaigns, she supposes.

Elena exhales, pops another grape in her mouth. So casual and having no cares. (If that was supposed to press a button, maybe it would have worked better if she hadn't embraced the costume and all its implications to herself much earlier and then to Eric.

But that's not to say it didn't work at all.

This is the girl she stabbed in the back. Literally.)
]

Why, do you have any pointers?

[It's true, they've tried to place some sort of truce between one another, but old habits die hard and Rebekah has a hard resisting the urge to do dig at Elena, if only just a little.

After all, the girl who had literally stabbed her in the back was dressed up as the devil. It's a hard opportunity to miss, really.

Mean girl politics will probably always be the default form of communication between them, when it comes down to it.
]

Perhaps, though I should think you wouldn't need them. After all, Lucifer was the original betrayer, I should think that would be right up you alley.

[ Burn. Elena lifts her eyes forward, angry and trying to visibly not be, not to mention this time actually trying not to look over.

Maybe not angry. Maybe not entirely that. That much at all.

Like it's been said: that's not to say this isn't working at all. Rebekah knows how to get under her skin. Rebekah has the ammo to do so. But she doesn't have to put up with it.

Elena turns her way.
] I get it, okay? You thought we were friends. [ The words are honest, perhaps too honest, and her expression is too hard. She thinks back to Rebekah on the floor, crying. Rebekah, in front of Stefan's mirror, crying. The anger, the grief, the rage she witnessed, knows, feels on so many levels of her own.

She didn't mean to wield it, but she did. (Maybe she did mean it, in the end. But that doesn't mean she liked it.)
] Maybe we could have been... if we didn't meet the way we did, and you didn't start by attacking my friends. [ js js. Whatever part Klaus played in it... ] I was protecting the people I love. [ But that doesn't make it better, or right, even if she had every reason not to trust Rebekah. In the end... ] And you were too. I took that from you. I get that. [ More than anything, she gets that.

She moves, lifts her arm out in a flippant proceed sort of gesture.
]

Say whatever you want, it's not going to change the facts. Does this just make you feel better? [ Because nothing will satisfy, right? Elena knows that's it. ]

[Does it make her feel better?

There's a question. Honestly? Not really. She doubts much would. Elena's betrayal was just another in a long line of them, a line of people always using her and then throwing her away when she wasn't useful anymore. The only person who hadn't done that (and even he did to certain extents) was Niklaus -- and he's dead now.

What's worse is she got her revenge. She got to see the truck go over the bridge with Elena in it but here? It's like none of it matters. Which sucks.
]

You tricked me. You took advantage of my grief. It's not a matter of making me feel better.

[Because she's not sure anything could. Because the thing is Rebekah kind of knows she deserves it. She wouldn't trust herself either.

But for a moment there, she had thought maybe she could be more than she was. More than a monster, more than just Klaus' sister, and Elena took that. That's what's the worst part of all this.
]

Say whatever you want but it doesn't change the facts either.

[ And it hurts. And it sucks. The words build some wall in her chest, block her throat. All that anger and hatred and grief and remorse she feels for Rebekah, because of Rebekah, because of herself. Her jaw works over it; she nearly shakes her head against it, but her voice and resolve is firm despite how upsetting it all is. ] You're right. Nothing's going to change the facts. I hate looking at you and seeing what I did. What I was capable of doing. What I'd do again. [ And she doesn't want to. She doesn't want that. But here she is, saying so, admitting it. Amongst all the glamor and pomp of some party in the middle of a sea, in prison. It's freeing. Ironically.

The theme was come as you want to be. Wanting has never gotten her anywhere. She'd much rather be at this point.
] And I'm sorry. It doesn't make me like you any more, just because I am. And it doesn't make anything else you've done okay, and it doesn't mean I forgive it. [ She pauses, only a moment. The hard truth is just that: hard. ] But I'll let it go. Because it is what it is, and we both have to live with it.

I don't expect your forgiveness. Nor do I want it. [After all, she knows what really happens to Elena back home, what she herself did. She remembers standing on the bridge, watching the car going into the river in order to save her family. She may never tell anyone else about it, but it happened.

Rebekah also doesn't let go. She doesn't know how to. She's lived a thousand years and let go of little, letting everything build inside, fester like an open wound.
]

Do you really think it's that easy, that you can just let go?

[ Elena's eyes glide over Rebekah's, flash just a little at "nor do I want it." She wouldn't (didn't) give it to be wanted, but Rebekah's pointedness to say it's not is a hostile dismissal of it all the same. She's not offended (maybe a little, maybe as much as she can be when it comes to Rebekah, and this) but the message is received.

(It's also not over her head that Rebekah doesn't expect it. Did she assume Elena would think that of her? It's a disconnect, and Elena will probably notice it later. For now:)
]

It's not about it being easy. It's about it being the right thing to do. [ Not right. Not really. But the right thing for Elena, right now. Maybe for Rebekah too. The only thing left to do.

She makes to leaves her at the bar now, and leave her with that.
]
