Who: Myka and Character Roulette ala Jackie
What: Random Encounter
When: Friday Afternoon
Where: Library
Rating/Warnings: TBD
Status: Closed, Complete

Off and on she regained consciousness throughout the morning. Each time becoming more and more lucid. Until finally her fever broke. Myka had no recollection of the past two days when she finally woke early in the afternoon on Friday. Her body felt lethargic and she very nearly collapsed when trying to stand on her own two feet. At some point Wednesday she must have returned to Helena's room but everything was a blank. Sure, she remembered visiting the dragons with Charlie. That had been an experience she wouldn't soon forget. Vaguely recalled returning to the castle and then nothing. While up visiting the dragons she'd felt a cold coming on but figured she could weather it out. But as she sat on the edge of Helena's bed she wondered if she had been wrong. Had the cold been worse than she'd initially thought? Bad enough to erase two days worth of memories from her mind? Before her thoughts could consume her anymore she noticed her phone lying on the opposite side of the bed. Helena gave her privacy when it came to personal conversations with others so the phones placement set her on edge. Had Helena been spying on her when she didn't realize it? Did she not trust her to the point she'd invade her privacy? Similar thoughts such as these flew through her mind causing tears to come to her eyes.

Shaking her head she wiped away the tears and grabbed her phone. Helena wouldn't betray her trust that way. There was a reasonable explanation for why her phone was not where it should be. A message flashed across her screen from Steve and upon reading it she went back through all of her sent and received texts. With each text that she read her face grew more and more horrified. Her question from earlier had been confirmed. She'd been much sicker than she'd thought. Claudia and Helena must have found her continued texts amusing which just added to her embarrassment. The Wonderful Land of Wells, clearly her mind was lacking in its creativity. After shooting a message off to Steve about forgetting what he'd read she saw a note sitting on her bedside table. Picking it up she recognized Helena's handwriting telling her that she had two hours in the library before she needed to return to bed. Myka would have gone off in search of the Victorian woman and argued that she wasn't her mother if she didn't feel the aches in her body. Getting out of the bed she quickly showered and put on her pants and one of Helena's shirts. The scent of which calmed the storm of emotions inside her. As she walked out of Helena's room into the sitting area, there was no sign of the other woman. Myka had hoped to talk to her about how bad her fever had been but that would have to wait. Before long she walked through the doors of the library and was assaulted with the scent of books and another memory. This time of doing research on dragons. She sincerely hoped that the memories weren't going to hit her like a canon ball every time something triggered them. Because if that was going to happen she didn't want to recall them. Before another memory could surface she made her way to the fiction section and began browsing the books on the shelves.

Myka hadn't been browsing the books on the shelves for that long when she heard someone approaching. Usually no one bothered her when she was in the library and she hoped that today of all days they would continue on. When she heard Claudia's voice she slowly turned around and then stared. A look of confusion settled on her face. If she was honest with herself she wasn't entirely sure the fever hadn't returned. Claudia stood before her with sequin covered devil horns. The shine that they created did nothing to help matters. Blinking she stood there looking like a complete idiot with her one hand still resting on a book.

She opened her mouth a few times, in a clear impersonation of a fish, before shutting it. Clearly no words were going to come out at the moment. Taking her hand off the book she cautiously began moving closer to the figure in front of her. Once she was close enough Myka took her hand and poked at Claudia to see if she was solid. When her hand came into contact with a solid mass she sighed and then flicked at the devil horns before turning away. As she turned away she muttered, "devil child" which brought to her mind telling Claudia about the dragons and how one nearly scorched her. From there memories continued to flow in of what she'd said to Helena. Using Christina had been a low blow and one she was going to pay dearly for. Groaning she turned back to the bookshelves before answering Claudia's questions.

"Honestly? No, I'm not." Myka said really wishing that she could bang her head against the books. But doing that would just make her feel worse so she refrained from doing so. "Helena left me a note telling me I had two hours of freedom."

Watching Myka, Claudia knew something was off. She just wasn't entirely sure what for a moment. Had the fever fried Myka's brain? Was she out while heavily medicated on cough syrup or something, thus delusional? Claudia twitched a bit when poked, then made a pouting face and straightened her horns. It didn't occur to her what Myka's objection to the accessory might've been until she groaned and then elaborated that she wasn't okay.

"Oh, so yard time for good behavior." Claudia nodded as if this all suddenly made sense, shifting her bag on her shoulder and giving the older woman a curious look. "Do you not like the horns, or did you think they might be my natural form coming out? I got them when H.G. and I went Halloween costume shopping Wednesday. I figured someone should drag her out and introduce her to the awesome commercialism that is modern day Halloween."

If she wasn't still recovering she might have made a comment on the "good behavior" remark. As it was she just didn't have it in her. But she did level a slight glare in Claudia's direction. Good behavior made her sound like a disobedient child doing something right for a change. But then again wasn't that exactly what she had been acting like? Her argument with Helena had been over something so trivial and yet she had thrown a temper tantrum. And through text messages no less. The only difference between a child's temper tantrum and hers had been the fact that she had more ammunition to throw back at her. Oh, it had been a low blow to bring up Christina as an example and to remind her lover that she was a murderer. Myka knew that she was going to pay for those comments. Helena may look put together but she had her demons still and those were two of them. An ache settled in her heart at the pain she must have caused.

Needing a distraction from her thoughts she moved away from the bookshelves. "You took Helena Halloween shopping?" Myka asked completely avoiding answering the question about the horns. Though on some level she did find them amusing and oddly poignant for Claudia's identity as "Devil Child." Myka was saddened that she was unable to take Helena out to experience new things. She wanted to introduce her love to what she had missed over the course of a century. But even she had to admit that she'd be lost in a costume store. Claudia would have the most patience to guide the Victorian woman. And Myka wouldn't begrudge the younger agent the opportunity to bond with the older woman. Claudia having lost both her parents could truly use having Helena around long term, and quite possibly allowing both women to heal. "Did you buy a matching outfit to go with your horns or are you trying for the natural look, my dear little Devil Child," she added with a smile.

Claudia shrugged and grinned a little at seeing Myka smile. "Yes, I did. And akin to a Christmas present, I won't spoil the surprise of what she picked out. But I think it's really cool. I won't say what I picked out either but I think it is, also, cool. Obviously, since I picked it out."

"I will say it isn't a matching outfit for the horns. I just got these to wear around - and a pair of dangly flashing pumpkin earrings. And some glue-on eyelashes that are spider webs, but those are going to have to wait for Halloween week. They wouldn't last if I tried to reuse them that often."

"You need to get a Halloween costume, once you're feeling better." Claudia paused, a hint of deviousness on her face. "Want me to come along with, to 'ooh' and 'ahh' over accessories and make sure you don't get the same costume as H.G.'s?"

Myka should have expected Claudia to refuse spoiling what Helena had gotten as a costume. Though she was worried because the Victorian woman had no qualms about modesty. The older woman had defied societal norms in her own time and was only just beginning to learn what the modern world had to offer. To say that Myka was a little nervous was an understatement. Since Claudia wasn't going to tell her what the costume was she would have to sneak in and find out. Though that would wait until the rift that had been created between them was repaired. Until then she intended to stay away from Helena's room unless a situation required her to be there.

"So bringing out your natural look until the holiday." Myka said with a teasing smile. When Claudia mentioned getting herself a costume her smile disappeared. Dressing up for Halloween wasn't exactly something that she had done as a child let alone as a grown adult. But if Helena and Claudia were going to be in costume than she couldn't allow herself to be outdone. Maybe she could even convince Pete to dress up as well, ideas all ready forming in her head of what she could go as. With, Pete, he'd undoubtedly pick one of the superheroes from his beloved comics. "You can come along, devil child. I might need your help."

"Speaking of feeling better. Those texts I sent you. Forget they ever happened."

"Yay! When we were shopping, I found a pair of fingerless gloves from home in one of the accessory aisles. I kind of want to see if I can find my bat necklace anywhere. Or my anatomically correct heart one. Or, you know, find any new jewelry accessories that I can't live without." Claudia said with a grin and a shrug, starting to look at the various book spines near where she was standing. Never mind the fact it wasn't in the area she needed to be for her research. "Actually, there was a pair of gloves there that H.G. said were like gloves she used to have, too. It was a pretty decent store."

"And - those texts?" Claudia grinned, continuing to stare at the books in front of her rather than looking over at Myka. "But - I never got to hear the end of the story. Seriously, heavy duty cough syrup and you makes for an interesting tale. I mean - H.G. told me part of the end when I got utterly busted, but not a happy ending for all. What kids' tale doesn't have a happy ending for all?"

Myka just stood and listened as Claudia rambled on about what she'd discovered when she and Helena had gone out shopping. As long as she had known the young woman she'd always had an eclectic taste. When Claudia began to look at the books near her, Myka's eyebrow rose. They weren't exactly in a section of the library that she expected to find the younger agent. Then her eyes took note of everything that Claudia was carrying and she was intrigued. Just what was the tech wizard doing in the library of all places? "Claudia, are you researching something?"

Her eyes rolled at the look on the girls face and what she said. There was no way she was revisiting her feverish texts. It was bad enough that she would have the memory of them forever. Not speaking about them was the best way to move forward. At least for the time being. "Nice try, Devil Child. I will not be sharing the end of the story with you. And don't think I'm going to forget how you kept edging me on."

"Farnsworth. I mean - yes, the internet has everything, but I'm essentially looking for details that don't exist. The device that lets the Farnsworths work back home lets them work world-wide and we both know that's not a small device, nor one that's in the public realm of knowledge. Cellphone signals and TV broadcasts and WIFI would be able to be everywhere, potentially, if adapted." And Claudia knew why it wasn't, considering cellphone signals had potential not-researched damage the broadcasts might cause, TV broadcasts needed to have limits short of TV executives turning toward mass potential invasion with broadcasts, and WIFI signals were said to have potentially not-researched damage as well. That wasn't mentioning the big potential for a Monopoly and, thus, corrupt company. Not that she bought into the could cause cancer claims, but she could believe that companies wouldn't necessarily research alternative methods to such things as cellphone transmissions and WIFI if the current method worked and brought them profit.

Claudia, very deliberately, left out the detail about English Sweating Sickness.

"Just - wandering when I saw you. Annnd... aww." Claudia made a fake pouting face, shrugging. "Fine. Don't tell me. I'll just have to imagine it myself."

As Claudia went on about the Farnsworth, Myka's brow raised and her eyes narrowed the slightest bit. There was something that the younger agent wasn't telling her. However forcing Claudia into revealing precisely every bit of information about what she was doing had never ended well before. More often than naught leading to arguments that were heard by all. There were times such as now that Myka really missed Artie. Her worries about what was happening in their future aside he was their father figure, especially for Claudia. Artie was also the only one who could handle and keep the young woman in line. A feat that was often amusing. Claudia had grown so much since they'd first met her and had all but earned her place as a fellow Warehouse agent. But that didn't stop her from inventing and experimenting with artifacts on occasion. Which is why Myka was also worried. The last time that Claudia had futzed around with the farnsworths all hell had broken loose in town. While it had not been entirely the young woman's fault the events of the day put reservations in her mind. It was better that they refrained from tampering with the Farnsworths and avoid any catastrophes from occurring. Because who knew what could happen in this world.

"Let's refrain from taking apart and experimenting with the farnsworths, Claudia." Myka said and placed a hand on her hip and cocked her head to the side. "You know what happened last time."

Myka took a moments pause before adding, "I am sure that your imagination can conjure up an ending to the tale. Or you can ask Helena to tell you."

Claudia rolled her eyes, ready to argue. "Hey, that wasn't me. And the Farnsworths are worthless right now, anyhow, so what's the harm in trying to make something they can broadcast on?"

"B-" Claudia's argument about how Artie would need something other than a cellphone should he show up, given his technologically challenged state, stopped before it got off the tip of her tongue. Rather, Claudia just paused, then shook her head and she moved on to the topic of the tale.

"H.G. did - and it wasn't a happy ending." She pointed out with a hint of a pout, then shrugged. "I should let you get back to your yard time." Claudia referred to it as a prison term just for the sake of her own amusement as much as anything else.

"What happens if they begin working and you've all but made them impossible to use?" Myka asked. While Claudia's argument had merit she was still wary about the younger agent tinkering around with the Farnsworths. Artie would put up a fight and in his absence she felt that it was her duty to ensure that nothing happened.

With thoughts of Artie came the emotional pain in her heart. Their future was horrifying to think about. But he had promised that he'd outlive them all so he would pull through. Artie had done it before and she had every confidence that he would again.

A small smile took over Myka's facial features at the hint of a pout on Claudia's face. Her fever had created quite a tale, however horrifying it may be. She vowed to take better care of herself to never let it happen again. At some point she would need to find a way to make amends with Helena over their fight. But where to begin on that, well, she was at a loss. "I seem to recall it ending happily," she said and then rolled her eyes and added, "Rub it in, devil child. Just you wait till you fall ill, Claudia, you'll see what 'yard time' feels like."

"There's a transmitter on earth that makes them work anywhere. They can't begin working unless I build something for them to transmit off of - proof positive we're on another planet in another dimension, but super sucky because... no Farnsworths suck." Claudia said with a shrug, then broke into a hint of a smirk at the devil child and other remark.

"Uh-huh. When I fall ill, somehow I suspect I'll be hiding behind Steve." She stuck her tongue out at Myka, very briefly, and flashed her a smile before reaching to adjust the messenger bag strap on her shoulder. "And it wasn't a happy ending for Trailer, who had no blanket."

With that, she moved to walk off and let Myka have a bit of peace. She could pester her more, properly, later once she was feeling better.
