If you want dinner, you'll have to go get the ingredients. [He wasn't planning on anyone coming over, and he's out of fresh ingredients-- he hasn't really been cooking much, not when it's been just him. There's less of a reason to do that, when there's no one there to cook for.]

[He can't deny either of those statements, though the latter is less true than the former-- he might freak out, yes, but mainly because he's told you why it can't be and just. no.]
