Why would you ask that, when you know it is?

[Because it means he went back on his word, on his decision to keep away, that he was too selfish and let something like that happen because of it, and now you cling to the false hope that it could still happen again, even when it must have been nothing more than a lapse of his judgement. He can't ruin your life, you have Himawari, you two are normal, you are humans, you're not meant to live for countless lifetimes. He's not living in the same world as you two are... he can't drag you away from the place and the people you belong with.]

It shouldn't have been any different, before. [Because like this, he can't remember that those versions of him wouldn't have been like this, wouldn't have yet been the shopkeeper, not yet tied to the spirit world like he is. For him, there is no discernible difference between that "him" and this "him", which is why Dou's phrasing sounds incredibly strange to him... because it would have been the same, wouldn't it?]
