[Walks with him, with a different sense of urgency than before, wanting to see whether there's anything there, if those last memories (because he knows he can't be missing much, he can feel it) are truly there, if he can find out about what happened now... But as they get to the gates of the house, suddenly everything around him turns black-- something that hasn't happened like this for a long time. A void of blackness, all surrounding him.]

[For Dou, however... it would look simply as though he's collapsed.]

[Meanwhile, he doesn't really register the fact that outside this place, he has collapsed... instead, he looks around, taking a few steps in the empty dreamscape-- there's nothing there, even when he calls out, confused. He hasn't dreamed like this, not unintentionally, not since... but then there's movement, finally, and the realisation that comes with is sharp, imminent. Of course.]

[Out of their shared eye, Dou might be able to see the brief moment of him, holding something in his hands.]

[Even though the dream should be dissipating when facing strong emotions... he is clinging to it too hard, clinging to those memories, that last time that he saw her so much, so tight that the dream holds him in place... or perhaps it is the opposite, his magic reaching out without him knowing, keeping it holding together. Either way, he isn't waking up, can't hear Dou calling for him.]

[Finally, he can hear that, his name being called, even if the sound is, for him, faint-- and it breaks through the dream, reminding him through his grief that yes, there are still people that he cares about, people that he can't worry like this... that he can't stay here. And so he lets go.]

[It takes him a moment to come back to himself, stirring slightly, his eyes blinking open as he takes in his surroundings, trying to place everything]

You know why I started to act like her? The drinking, smoking... [He makes a soft sound, something that is torn between a sob and a humorless chuckle] I was afraid that I'd forget her. That if I kept doing these things, I would always remember her.

[But he does turn to look at him, finally, seeming almost understanding, the words that follow calm, laced with an obvious tiredness.]

I didn't say you could't come with me. [He promised you could stay at the shop... he won't take back that promise, even if he just wants to be alone now.]
