The year is 2029. The Wizarding world has been at peace for more than 30 years. Sadly, yet unsurprisingly, the beloved Minister for Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt has announced that he will be stepping down from the position at the end of the term. Two names immediately rise above the others: Hermione Granger and Castor Wilkes, currently neck and neck in the Wizengamot's favour. But apathy is high in the Wizarding community. Why worry about who can take the reigns when everything’s been jolly good for two decades?

In an attempt to increase more interest and participation in Wizarding governance, the Ministry and the Wizarding Broadcasting Corporation have entered into a joint venture to produce The DEPARTMENT. It was conceptualised as a human interest documentary revolving around the Department of Magical Law Enforcement (partly for the famous names and partly for the slightly above average-looking staff).

At least, that was how it was pitched. Following a bunch of Aurors and Hit Wizards with no script and no set agenda, the documentary focus became less about the government as a whole and more about the personalities that inhabited it. And maybe that's what the Wizarding world really wants.

The Department is Harry Potter Next Generation game in the style of the Office and Parks and Recreation, charting the comedic and dramatic turns of Ministry employees.
