London, 1924. The season is in full swing and everyone who's anyone wants to be seen rubbing shoulders with the wizarding world's own Bright Young Things; the group of carefree young purebloods who'll one day run the place, but for now prefer to live out frivolous and decadent lives, partying, drinking and occasionally having a bit too much gillyweed for their own good. In their townhouses and country manors, an older generation shakes their weary heads and complains about the state of youth today, holding onto their time honoured traditions for dear life, plotting which daughter will marry which son and who will wear what to the annual charity ball at the Ministry of Magic. It isn't hard to imagine the clash between young and old, traditional and modern values that will eventually ensue. Is there hope of a bridge between the generations, bringing understanding between the fast moving youth and their parents? Will the young carry on with their indulgent ways, causing as much scandal as they can? Or is it not true that even those with a little more experience on their side are just as adept at bringing about trouble of their own? |
"….Voldemort's powerful now. You don't know who his supporters are, you don't know who's working for him and who isn't; you know he can control people so that they do terrible things without being able stop themselves. You're scared for yourself, and your family, and your friends. Every week, news comes of more deaths, more disappearances, more torturing … The Ministry of Magic's in disarray, they don't know what to do, they're trying to keep everything hidden from the Muggles, but meanwhile, Muggles are dying too. Terror everywhere … panic … confusion …" Across Europe the Wizarding Community lies in fear. Voldemort and his followers are on the rise, leaving behind a reign of terror in their wake. As his numbers increase, Wizards begins to grow more uneasy, increasingly choosing to fall prey to his Empire, out of fear, unwilling to stand up and fight. In spite of the increasing danger, a small group of vigilante Wizards have begun a rebellion, daring to do what the Ministry fears to do; fight. The Order of the Phoenix is slowly growing into a force to be reckoned with, threatening not only Voldemort, but the Ministry itself. Change is on the brink for the students of Hogwarts. No longer will they be safe behind the confines of the castle, unaware to the real dangers of the world. They will soon be forced to make their own loyalties known; a decision that will affect not only the rest of their lives, but the entire Wizarding World. Amongst the darkness, these students are potentially the light needed to give the Order the man power to take on Voldemort’s forces. As both sides fight to gain support, one question lies: which side do you choose? | ||

In 1995 the world is changing, and not everything is the way it has been in the life of Harry Potter or his friends. Fifteen years ago the Potters placed a Fidelius Charm upon their home with the help of James Potter’s best friend Sirius Black. It was because of this that Lord Voldemort never discovered the location of the Potter home, thus, Lily and James Potter were very much alive. Also hidden, the Longbottoms avoided their own ghastly fate. Harry grew up in a loving home under the protection of the Charm and is far from the poor boy that he once would have been at Privet drive. With his parents around, Neville was not coddled, but loved and became well balanced early on in life. Upon entering Hogwarts, Harry soon learned the world was not exactly as his parents and uncles had made it out to be. Neville was pleased that everything was what he had hoped for. In the years since Lord Voldemort’s disappearance the Wizarding World had become a place of tension and strife. Wizards that were Pure-bloods were looked upon with suspicions, Half-bloods were being shunned by both sides for not being on one side or the other, and Muggle-borns were vanishing before they had a chance to even attend Hogwarts. In this world the Order worked to protect the Muggle-borns and get them out of the country for their own safety. The Aurors arrive after the attacks and have the gruesome job of cleaning up. No one is sure who leads these attacks, but everyone suspects the socialite Bellatrix Black Lestrange and the fair Lord Lucius Malfoy. The Ministry of Magic is split in two. When the current Minister, Bartemius Crouch Senior, came into office he led the largest dark wizard hunt of the century. Unfortunately, his wide nets caught up the blundering or the stupid but allowed the slipperiest of the Dark Lord’s followers through, including the Minister’s own son. Barty Crouch Jr, still firmly in under the direction his Lord went on to work for his father at the Minstry. At the beginning of the 1995 school year he was inducted as the current Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. The Ministry is rife with the corruption of the Death Eaters lying in wait for their Lord’s return. Their day is here and now. If the Order cannot handle it, if the Ministry is too subverted to control it, then what are the two Prophesied Children to do? It is up for Harry and Neville to hopefully rise to the occasion, for the sake of the Wizarding World |
It's 1977; school has started in earnest, and everyone is settling in for yet another perfectly normal year at Hogwarts. The homework is piled on, the threat of looming exams being beaten into ignorant minds, but all the while... something doesn't feel right. It's so much darker this year than it was last year. The days seem to be shortening beyond comprehension. The fog is thick and cold and constant, not to mention the fact that everyone seems so glum. There are disappearances being noted in the newspaper, but everything seems vague, as though someone knows what is going on, but too afraid to voice it aloud. The teachers seem a bit on edge, uncertain how to handle the evil that is lurking in the shadows. The students, for the most part, are completely unaware of what is going on, even those whose parents are deep in the throes of swearing their allegiance to one side or another. The students, it seems, live in a world of their own, one untouched by the misery and doom of the outside world. No one will say aloud what is really happening. Even after the attacks on Beauxbatons and Kinnitty, there is too much fear to put a name to the tragedies. People are too quick to label them as accidents, or to pretend that just because nine seemingly safe months have passed, that it's time we forgot our fear of what lurks unseen. The disappearances? They're not worth mentioning... right? There they are, standing on the edge at the basis of everything, wondering when they will fall |
Basis of Everything is a Marauder Era RPG set in 1977, in the Marauder's final year of Hogwarts. We're not too canon around here, and this is a slightly AU board. We don't take ourselves too seriously, and if you're going to call us up on having the wrong canon characters together... well, c'mon, this is a game! Here at BOE, we pay attention to the canon aspects that matter and do our own thing otherwise. Characters behave as canon would dictate them to, with a little fandom mixed in there too. We're not too strict, and we're all here to play and have a good time. If, like us, you like to create drama or partake in funny threads, then you're just our sort of person! We were previously open on boe.pandoras-closet.net, an invisionfree forum, but have just moved to livejournal. It's fun and exciting, and a little new to us, so be gentle! We're the patient kind, and we have a lot of backstory. Our characters are developed and dear to us, and as a pretty large and friendly community, we're always looking for similarly minded people. So, take a look at our canon list and write us up an application, we'd love to have you! |
BOE is run by Rena, Mel and Molly, and you can contact us at basisofeverything[at]gmail.com. Rena and Mel are admins of Pandora's Closet, where Molly is Graphic Staff. BOE is Pandora's resident rpg forum, so if you want graphics for your character, be it a header for your journal, some icons, or some sort of graphic for your profile, you should register on Pandora's and request from our large and helpful group of artists. We're ready and willing to help! |

A poltergeist who randomly switches furniture from one flat to another, even (as in the case of a bed) while it's still being used. A caretaker's skeleton key charm which goes awry and passes the effect onto random building inhabitants, giving wayward sorts like Lee Jordan a means to "break into" other residents' homes and generally make a nuisance of themselves. A scraggly but oddly attractive bum who adopts the building's entrance as his own and tells tenants, such as Luna Lovegood and Anthony Goldstein, that they are the reincarnations of Nimwe and Merlin respectively. And that's just what's been happening recently. Welcome to Euterpe's Corner. Whatever else it may be, it's never boring. We are an experienced and fun (if dubiously sane, much like some of our characters) collection of players looking for some new blood to flesh out a comprehensive cast and contribute a few key characters. Those characters would be: OLIVER WOOD: We had a fantastic Oliver with a great dynamic within his flat (dubbed the pro Quidditch flat) but the player sadly had to leave us due to LJ accessing issues. Wilda Griffiths and Meaghan McCormack would love a new Oliver to tease, and their respective players would open their arms to you. Plus Oliver gets to live in a cushy upper level flat! DENNIS CREEVEY: Some more characters in their late teens would be good to balance out the comparitively geriatric 20-somethings, and a wizard who lost a sibling during the war would have a lot of good material to work with characterisation-wise. It is a lighter game set in 2002 and things have settled down since the war (Slytherin even had its first Muggleborn student!), but some scars remain and there are residents who were incarcerated during the war, so he wouldn't be out of place. NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM: Another character whose progress after the war would be interesting to track. Our fantastically played (but rather lonely) Luna currently has no flatmates, so she would welcome either Neville, a Dennis, or a HANNAH ABBOTT. Other wanted characters: MARCUS FLINT, CORMAC McLAGGEN and KATIE BELL. For basic information on the characters, go here. Links to more detailed biographies and the hold page can be found here. The list of flats (although this can be changed) is here, while information on the premise is located here. Most canon characters who would be between the ages of 18 to 30 circa 2002 are up for grabs. Questions? Queries? Contact ec.mods @ gmail.com. |
