In its inception, the Durmstrang Institute accepted all promising students who had magical aptitude. However, the rise of the wizard Grindelwald and increasing tensions between the social classes resulted in the expulsion of any non-pureblooded students. Now, known Muggleborns and halfbloods are no longer accepted, and the school is known for pureblooded wizards, study of Dark Arts, rigid social classes, and tradition.

Students that graduate from Durmstrang are the most talented, the strongest, the brightest, and the best. Stakes are high, and not all students will succeed. Some may never make it to graduation. Are you strong enough to survive?

"Death is no longer certain... "

The Wizarding world is recovering from the Wars. The magical community is still worried someone will return. The world isn't ready for what happened next. Time has passed. People married. Wizards Married. New generations of people are coming to Hogwarts.

Things seemed to be going well, until one experiment went awry. Hermione, in an effort to learn more about the Veil, accidentally resurrected the dead. Regulus Black returned to the living, Sirius too. Even Bellatrix came back. Was that it? No one’s sure. The Ministry has been trying to play cover up since it happened.

That was two years ago. Everyone thought certain families were dead and gone, but with their return, blood relatives of the scariest families are cropping up from their hiding places across the world. The Lestranges & Carrows have children. The Gaunts and Blacks have living, and resurrected, blood relatives. Things are starting to happen again.

Parents find their children going to classes with children of the children of those families. Is the next generation like their parents? Or will the oldest families learn to change with the times? Will they band together to face a possible resurgence of dark times or will they fall apart at the seams?

In a world where Tom Riddle never became Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters were never formed, there is an even greater threat that no one can hide from. For the past thirty years, the Wizarding World has been battling against each other, brother against brother, husband against wife, and there is no end in sight. It has been a bitter, bloody battle, but both sides are willing to fight to the death.

Forget the Montagues and Capulets. Forget East Side and West Side. Order against Brotherhood is the only fight that matters anymore, and everyone's a target.

The Plot - Cannon through Deathly Hallows


It is August 20, 1998. The dark lord has been destroyed by Harry Potter and the wizarding world rejoiced. The end of the war brought change to the wizarding world, mostly for the better. People, especially muggle borns, no longer live in fear. The ministry has been thoroughly cleaned and is up and running, making themselves ready for elections in the spring.

The death eaters have been rounded up and some sent to prison but others who claimed to be Imperiused or coerced into service have been released with a pardon and a show of goodwill towards all men. Rodolphus Lestrange at the loss of his wife, claimed the imperius curse and is now working to serve the ministry to prove what he can do for society. He stepped into the political arena speaking for the unity of the wizarding world and has become quite popular with his show of intellect and concern for its well-being. Things are not always as they seem. Now that he has won the title of Minister of Magic, changes are coming.

After the final battle of Hogwarts, many parents complained to the Ministry Department of Education. Their children did not graduate, nor did they complete exams or get a proper education. There was talk of boycotting the school, forcing it to close. The ministry, and new headmistress, Minerva McGonagal, came up with a plan. They would offer an 8th year to those who should have finished to see that they could get a proper year of schooling and complete everything they needed to. They would have extra liberties as they would be of age as well. Most parents responded favorably and have agreed to send their children to finish the year properly. For those who could not attend, it is also their chance to make up for what they had lost, welcomed back with open arms and an apology from the school and the ministry.

Everything seems to be going well, but good and evil do go hand in hand and there are forces at work both at Hogwarts and in the Ministry as the dark side tries to reclaim power over the wizarding world. It is often difficult to see who is on what side, but the dark lord's fellowship is alive and well, building up enough momentum until they can rise again.

"….Voldemort's powerful now. You don't know who his supporters are, you don't know who's working for him and who isn't; you know he can control people so that they do terrible things without being able stop themselves. You're scared for yourself, and your family, and your friends. Every week, news comes of more deaths, more disappearances, more torturing … The Ministry of Magic's in disarray, they don't know what to do, they're trying to keep everything hidden from the Muggles, but meanwhile, Muggles are dying too. Terror everywhere … panic … confusion …"

Across Europe the Wizarding Community lies in fear. Voldemort and his followers are on the rise, leaving behind a reign of terror in their wake. As his numbers increase, Wizards begins to grow more uneasy, increasingly choosing to fall prey to his Empire, out of fear, unwilling to stand up and fight.

In spite of the increasing danger, a small group of vigilante Wizards have begun a rebellion, daring to do what the Ministry fears to do; fight. The Order of the Phoenix is slowly growing into a force to be reckoned with, threatening not only Voldemort, but the Ministry itself.

Change is on the brink for the students of Hogwarts. No longer will they be safe behind the confines of the castle, unaware to the real dangers of the world. They will soon be forced to make their own loyalties known; a decision that will affect not only the rest of their lives, but the entire Wizarding World.

Amongst the darkness, these students are potentially the light needed to give the Order the man power to take on Voldemort’s forces. As both sides fight to gain support, one question lies: which side do you choose?


Darkness Rising is a canon compliant Marauders Era RPG taking place in 1978. Game opened February 1, 2009.
