PREMISE
The Durmstrang Institute was created for the magical instruction of Eastern European wizards. Once upon a time, it accepted all promising students who had magical aptitude, but now, any time that Muggleborns and halfbloods were ever accepted is a distant memory, in favor of rigid social classes and tradition. Students are ingrained with a sense of superiority or inferiority [one that often starts at home], a respect for tradition and appropriate social behavior, and most importantly a strong desire to succeed and to be the best. Students that graduate from Durmstrang are the most talented, the strongest, the brightest, and the best. The only question is...are you strong enough to survive until graduation?

Welcome to The Retreat, a rehabilitation center specializing in Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome for war victims. It is funded by Saint Mungo's hospital and set within the beautiful woodlands of the Kamchatka Peninsula. We proudly boast a well trained staff of nurses and doctors specializing in psychological counseling while, at the same time, providing a healthy and nurturing sense of community and family.

What our pretty brochure won't tell you, however, is that our head doctor is a bit of a bored masochist with a god-complex, magic within The Retreat has been nearly nullified, the grounds are charmed to heighten emotional responses, and there's hidden cameras set up everywhere, even behind the two-way mirrors.

So won't you join us in our pseudo-quest for mental wellness in a post-war world, where even though the Dark Lord is dead, the victims of the second war can't escape the fact that they'll always be someone else's pawn and plaything.

It's been a year since the Final Battle, and the Wizarding World is slowly rebuilding. During that time Kingsley Shacklebolt has stepped up as Minister and quickly put to rights most of what the Death Eater regime wronged.</font> Muggleborns are slowly filtering back into society, though fear of the same thing happening again is high.

Trials have been held and Death Eaters sentenced to Azkaban. While Azkaban is no longer guarded by Dementors, the prison is as cold and forbidding as ever. However, some Death Eaters have escaped and although they haven't made any overt moves since Shacklebolt and the Order came to power, neither has the overwhelming aura of fear abated much. Some Death Eaters escaped by turning in their associates; for others there was little evidence. Still others went on the run and are hiding from the Aurors and the Wizengamot.

There are whispers of an isolated group of Death Eaters still bent on seeing the rise of Purebloods and the annihilation of Muggles and Muggleborn alike, but no trace of this group has been seen. But their presence is felt, and it's only a matter of time before they strike.

But for Harry Potter and his friends, their lives are just beginning. Most of Harry's year chose to continue on for an 8th year at Hogwarts, under the Specialized NEWT Program. Having successfully completed that, they took their NEWTs in May of 1999, along with students in Ginny's year, and spent the summer (or longer) job hunting. With Auror and Healer Training to start in October, Quidditch to begin again after a year-long hiatus and new shops opening all the time in Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley no one wants to think about a third war.

But it's coming, and this time the aftermath will be epic. Is the Wizarding World ready for a Third War? It's time to find out in The Aftermath

A side plot involves the new Phoenix Communication Journals. The Journals were popular first in America, and now are making a big splash in Wizarding Britain. But is Phoenix Communications what it seems...or something more sinister?.

It is September of 2001. It has been just past two years since Harry Potter defeated Lord Voldemort. Life has slowly begun to return to normal. Witches and wizards everywhere no longer have to look over their shoulders constantly. It's time to focus on careers, relationships, and just moving on in general.

AMORTENTIA? Something strange begins to brew in the wizarding community. People suddenly begin to get sick, reporting symptoms that include a combination of fever or chills, slight hair loss, bright pink spots, itching, and hallucinations. What starts as a small outbreak begins to spread quickly throughout various towns and even Hogwarts, baffling Healers. If untreated, the disease can be fatal. These conditions have no known catalyst and, even more frightening, no known cure. It is highly contagious.

COMING SOON? After some time it will be discovered that the horrific new disease is linked with the love potion Amortentia, and thus referred to as the "Love Plague." Treatment will be developed to hold the disease at bay, but no cure is in sight. Who has unleashed this diabolical weapon upon the wizarding community? Is there any hope to stop this twisted plot? The answers to these questions lie in the brave and noble witches and wizards who must now stand up to solve this mystery and will sacrifice all in the name of the peace Harry Potter brought them...

Hey guys! I'm Becca, one of the mods over at Contentious. We're a truly fantastic (such modesty, I know) and active Post-War game. We're set in 2001, been open just three weeks and everyone is having a BLAST. But everyone wants new players and characters to chat and plot with!

PREMISE
Voldemort? Dead. War? Over. Repercussions? Are seemingly endless.

Welcome to the Wizarding World circa 2001. It's still a messy system of secrecy and dogmatic tradition - and whilst prejudices against Muggleborns and Half Bloods are no longer tolerated, British Wizarding Society was not magically improved overnight. Choked by the subliminal takeover and downfall of what were once perceived as its strongest institutions, the new Ministry, helmed by Kingsley Shacklebolt, are undertaking a new mission to resurrect, renew and revolutionise with Big Dreams and Ideals.

Amongst others, there are two main issues here:
  1. Everyone has their own agenda, and demand their fair slice of pie.
  2. Some people, and by this, we do mean some of the most influential members of society, are opposed to the influx of these sudden changes which they claim threaten the security of Wizards.


From Goblin War #981371 (give or take a hundred), to the Muggleborn Compensation Proposal - the efforts of SPEW and Anti-Werewolf Registry Protests to the de-weeding of the Ministry, it's a battle between progression and tradition. How far is Wizarding World ready to go, and when does it begin to threaten their Statute of Secrecy? Is your character here to change the world? Preserve their way of life? Or are just along for the ride? You decide.

ABOUT US

Libertas is an AU 7th year Trio game. What that means to you is that while you will be playing the characters that we all know and love from Harry Potter: In this game they have gone through a slightly different experience. It is our goal to combine canon with AU in a way that lets the game focus on character development outside the pressures of an impending war. Harry is still the 'boy who lived', but would he be the same if the weight of the wizarding world did not rest on his shoulders? The smallest change in history has infinite effects on the future.

How are we different? Well, we will break it down year by year, but for now, let's look at the big picture. In 1981, a Lord Voldemort, bent on fulfilling prophesy, attacked Godric's Hollow. After killing James and Lily Potter, he turned his wand on young Harry, casting the Avada Kedavra that bounced back... ending the Dark Lord's rein of terror and forever changing Wizarding kind. In the years that followed, the Ministry of Magic did their best to track down and imprison any who were associated with Lord Voldemort. Some were excused as being victims of the Imperious curse. Some went to Azkaban. Some managed to escape and rebuild their lives.

We all know this right? If JKR had ended there, it would be a sad world indeed. Thankfully she did not. But what if that had truly been the end of the war and the threat? How different would our choices be without death and destruction looming over our shoulders? There are still bloodists and dark witches and wizards. There are still muggleborns and honorable people. Harry Potter & Draco Malfoy are not likely going to be friends. Unless otherwise noted, canon still stands and what happened in the books has happened in your character's past. JKR barely mentions all but a handful of characters, but all of the students had lives, loves, hates, and a story of their own. There is a lot of room to really think about your characters and what makes them the people they are today. This is your chance to rewrite history, use it well.
