A Modern Day Witch Hunt

Proven beyond reasonable doubt: there are witches and wizard among us! Bridges collapsing without structural damage; murders with no cause of death. All are finally proven to be the work of witches and wizards among us.
Most wizards and witches easily able to blend into normal society ("Muggles" as they call non-magical people). Be careful with who you talk to on the street.
The Ministry of Magic, "Snoopy Dogman" as he is known to the press, has been quoted to say, "Wizards and witches have no intention of harming the Muggle populace. We have lived in quiet cohabitation for centuries without trouble. Do not be frightened!"
But how can the regular populace not be frightened at the prospect of people who have magical powers and can blend into society?
