I enjoy running as much as the next girl, course I do, but this has gone far enough. The next one of these savages that tries to shoot me, hit me, or chase me from the streets is going to wish they hadn't. I might do my very best to avoid violence but I've certainly no objections to self-defence.

My only real issue is that I don't understand why they've so much hostility but it's quickly reaching the point that I don't care. You can't help someone if they won't let you, yeah?

Violence may not always be the right answer, but I can think of plenty of times when it was necessary. If you back down and run away from a bully, you'll always be running. If you stand up and fight, especially for the right cause, then eventually they see that they can't just bully you into giving them what they want.

You're welcome, miss. I don't like to get involved in other people's conversations, but I just didn't agree with what was being said.

Steve Rogers.

You aren't the only one who doesn't agree.

Nice to meet you, Steve! I'm Jenny.

I'm seeing that. It's not like anyone is attacking the locals without provocation, but we should defend ourselves and others.

It's nice to meet you too, Jenny.

And yet we are the invaders to their home. Or have we forgotten this, Captain?

Actually, we're the captives in their home if you want to be technical. We can't leave and, I don't know about you, but I didn't ask to come here. Which makes them being angry with us a bit ridiculous, if you really think about it. Not to mention we haven't caused them any harm and have, in fact, done our best to try to help them when other threats have presented themselves.

No, this anger of theirs is nothing more than pure, unadulterated prejudice. And prejudice is not something you can logic away nor justify because it has no basis in either of those categories. It simply exists, typically as a pre-programmed response due to heavy influence of those who have large impact on the individual mixed with a dash of external conflict. Now going with that, if there is something that has caused these people to suddenly start hating us for whatever the reason, I frankly don't see how you can then assume that simply not taking action is going to fix it. If nothing else, this place has shown those of us stuck here time and again that ignoring the problem only acerbates it.

Ah, yes, we are captives but do they truly see it like that? I imagine from their perspective we are the annoying invaders who won't simply go away.

There is other actions as opposed to force meeting force. You are addressing a being who can see all of time and space and is normally everywhere and anywhere in every second in every moment. I have seen empires fall and kingdoms rise in the blink of an eye.

Considering they have no problem referring to their benevolent 'Collector' whenever prompted and, up until very recently paid very little attention to our comings and goings, I would say the facts prove you wrong on that one. We haven't invaded and this isn't a problem that has slowly built up steam. Until a few weeks ago they were perfectly content co-habiting with us. Now, in a city that has a history of doing things without rhyme or reason, I find it very short-sighted to simply assume there is suddenly a logical one backing these recent changes. And I think it's equally safe to say that I'm not alone in that assessment.

That's all well and good but who or what you are matters very little to me. If anything it makes me wonder why you, of all creatures, would be so willing to condemn others for actions simply because your personal beliefs don't align with them. I would expect better, frankly.

That we know of. If we cannot contact the Collector himself, then how can we assume we know anything about how the inhabitants think?

I am saying there are better ways of matching violence against violence. You all are the ones who are jumping to think I said that we should all be passive. The statement is meant to make you think, not argue.

Common sense and experience may lead to little more than speculation but it's educated speculation at its best. Given a choice between that and blindly fumbling about in hopes of discovering an answer that isn't likely forthcoming, I'll choose the former rather than the latter every single time.

The statement is a decidedly argumentative one posed in a time when tension is running high and emotions are dictating actions. There's a reason you haven't seen me tossing my two cents, as they were, into the ring until this conversation. And while I will agree that violence isn't the answer, I haven't seen a thing here to indicate anyone is intending violence as much as attempting to find some way to curb the violence against those less than capable of defending themselves. To me, that doesn't indicate an intent to attack the locals but merely a willingness to defend themselves against a perceived attack which is very real and very likely to occur should they wander from their homes for any reason whatsoever. Or, in some cases, even if they are at home. Which really only makes the situation worse because if a person doesn't even have a place they feel safe to lay their head at night they tend to do things they wouldn't otherwise as one of the fundamental, universal connectors between all walks of life of sentient beings is a desire to feel secure when they are at their most vulnerable.

We didn't choose to come here, ma'am. If we had, that might be a different situation. But we were brought here by a force outside our control. We weren't asked. We didn't give our consent. And while we've been here, we've done our best to be functioning members of society. There is no reason for them to have such a sudden, violent reaction. That points to some sort of external cause. I'm not saying we need to go attacking locals, but there's no cause not to defend ourselves.

No reason that we know of. We lack a great deal of knowledge when it comes to the matters of this city, aren't we? People can be aged and changed at a wave of a hand. People can come and leave at the drop of a penny. There could be a very good explanation as to why they are being violent, and we simply do not know because we are not even allowed inside a library in which we first arrive in.

I did not say that defending yourself was a bad strategy at all, Captain. I said that violence against violence will not solve anything. Because there are those who will strike out with violence and it will escalate. You should know that better than most.

Morgan Freeman knows what I can do, lady. And if you can see everything at any given point, you should know I can do it too.

I vote for amused. Mostly because if you get offended, things might happen and the Doctor will get upset. Then other people will get upset and I think we've had enough of people getting upset without adding to it.

Oooh, so you do talk to us. What an honor. Hello! Not goodbye.

Then perhaps you can tell us why your citizens are being so brash? I am sure we would all love to know. If you have the time to answer such a question.
