“Next!” the receptionist called out.

The expectant couple approached, the pregnant lady waddling…the receptionist blinked. Or was it a lady? Shrugging, she asked for the health card.

“What in Merlin’s name is that?” The tall, dark (and rather scary, the receptionist admitted to herself) man hissed under his breath.

“Shush, Severus. I’ll take care of it.” The dark haired woman fished around in her purse, handing over the card.

“Harrietta Potter-Snape.” The receptionist jotted the information down. “Very well, the ultrasound technician is waiting for you in Room Three.”

“Thank you,” Harrietta smiled.

The receptionist gawked as they walked away.

Filch had worked for Hogwarts far longer than anyone had any right to. In all his time pushing brooms, chasing Peeves, and conducting detentions, he'd seen many romances bloom and flourish, only to explode in rivers of teenaged angst.

But he'd never seen such a strange relationship as that between Professors Snape and Potter. Their battles fell into cold silences, then grudging one word mutterings, then eventual whole sentences without (many) insults.

Filch shook his head before resuming sweeping as he rounded a corner and found Professor Snape holding Professor Potter to the wall with his body, lips locked passionately.

“But you’ve fought for years! How have you got on working let alone having him your-”

“Lay off, Malfoy isn’t such a prat.”

“Fine, have him best man,” Hermione assented. “Everyone’s so delighted about the wedding. The press hasn’t been this giddy since Voldemort’s defeat.”

Harry grinned. “Severus’s so sick of hearing about us, he Apparated to France, saying he’ll show up starkers before hearing any more about bobbin lace.”

“O no! But I’ve found the perfect dress robe,” she cried, going on about the qualities of silk. Harry appreciated everything Hermione was doing but, smiling inwardly, he’d prefer Severus’s outfit-of-choice (or lack thereof) any day.

Hermione smiled as she watched her best friend kiss her former professor; it was one of the sweetest things she had ever witnessed. It was obvious how much Severus loved Harry. Though it had been six years since Harry had told her he was in a relationship with Severus, and even though she had given her blessing, this was the first time she truly understood that this was a long-term thing. There would be no others for Harry.

Hermione quietly walked across the room and opened the door. She needed to go tell her boyfriend to forget about Bill.

Rita Skeeter had a nose for news – scandal and gossip carried a luscious aroma that left her weak-kneed at her desk, emerald quill quivering.

She’d written mawkish articles praising Harry Potter after Voldemort’s defeat, with curt acknowledgement of the spy Snape squeezed onto the last page. After all, she wrote what the public wanted to read.

Her nose reawakened to the smell of scandal at the announcement of a private wedding between the two wizards. Was Potter ashamed of his illicit liaison with the Death Eater? Had Snape corrupted their bright hero? Nose twitching, knees weak, Rita began to write.
