The being in front of Nariko was a young woman, pale and thin, with brown haired looped into small buns above her ears. She might have passed for truly human, if it hadn't been for the red feathers across her chest.

“Who do you think you are?” the young woman asked imperiously. “To so defy our king will lead to your doom.”

Nariko sneered. “I am already doomed, so why not defy him? And who are you, other than another obstacle in my path?”

The girl's eyes widened in anger. She screamed in rage, and flame erupted from her fingertips.
