Day 280 [Spike Resouling Mingle / open*]
[It seems peaceful enough on surface. Just another average evening in the dome. Get some new inmates, have lunch, put a vampire's soul back.

Tonight is the night. They'll either come together as the team she wants them to be or this will fall apart. She gave out the final assignments yesterday. Now, it's a matter of having a little faith that they'll all do their part, and this spell will work.

She can feel the weight of the stake on her belt. It's not that the wood is heavy, but what it represents is—a choice she'll have to make to whether or not to take someone else's choices away.]

(OOC: *Open in that there are areas for different people like those mentioned by name in this OOC organizational post are welcome to tag into the appropriate stage below. Unnamed force members are also welcome to encounter Spike early on or be stationed at the Headquarters. Non-DF players are welcome to tag into the Library thread as uninformed library goers who will be turned away.

Not a DF member, hate the library, and didn't get in on the ground floor, but you have an idea now? Please discuss it on the OOC post!

Final Showdown — Closed to Jack

[ He should've seen it coming. He only had himself to blame, really, falling into such an obvious trap and although he'd never admit it there is a slim chance that he had underestimated just what lengths the Force was ready to go to. Stuck in a room with that smarmy asshole — no mind, he'd fought his way out of worse. Nazi submarines. The Boxer Rebellion. That kerfuffle in Prague. There's no way a bunch of boy scouts could lock him in a library room and win.

He straightens up, turned to Jack, all narrowly slit eyes and set jaw. ]

You think you're so bloody clever, don't you? I warned you, Jack. You really don't leave me much choice.

[Jack watches him from where he's leaning back against the door to Spike's makeshift cell, arms folded across his chest, and lifts a lazy eyebrow.]

You always have a choice, Spike.

[The laziness is very much put on. Every cell in his body is tingling and he feels more alert and energised than he has since he arrived in the dome. He's missed excitement like this.]

As do you. [ He paces, tries to cover worry and restlessness with arrogance. He's not scared. Of course he's not scared. ]

Soon as I rip your throat out again, I'll go do the same to your lit'le library boy. Think he'll bounce back as well as you do? You could've avoided this. You could've left well alone.

And just how do you think you're going to get to him, Spike? Can you suddenly walk through locked doors now? Or through all the rest of the Defence Force?

[Because they did manage to get him in here, after all. Even if Jack's heart was in his mouth the whole interminable minute it took to get him past Ianto at the library desk.]

And yeah, I have a choice, and I've already made it.

Please, if I could get out of a submarine at the bottom of the bloody Atlantic, I doubt a flimsy door will stop me for long. [ He gives a bark of a laughter for a moment, quickly sinking into deathly seriousness. ] As for your soddin' Defence Force... I refrained from killing them before. There will be no such mercy now.

If you made your choice... then go ahead and do it. See how well it sticks.

[Jack watches him coolly for a moment, and then deliberately steps aside from the door.]

Go on, then. Let's see you get out of this.

[Not that he's actually going to let Spike get out, of course. A part of him is downright spoiling for a fight, and it's by no means solely due to the little red pearl he picked up a day or two and has kept in his pocket ever since. Even without that, there's been enough build-up to this to make him feel just a little disappointed if manhandling Spike into this cell turns out to be the only bit of violence he gets tonight.]

And have you stab me in the back? I don't think so, mate. [ He's not stupid enough to step into a trap like that. No, Jack needs to die first. He's not getting stuck in the middle. ]

[He's not going to bother denying it. Even if he wouldn't normally consider himself a stab-in-the-back kind of guy, he did lie in wait to hit Spike over the head with a baseball bat out of the blue the last time they met. He shrugs.]

Well, if you're not even going to try... I'm just going to have to consider those idle threats, aren't I?

[ Even if past experience didn't weigh in Spike still wouldn't have trusted the word of a bloody hero like this. Not with this obvious a trap — a trap that hadn't been so obvious that he avoided it, of course. Bloody hell. ]

Cut to the chase already, Jack. We both know how this is going to go down. [ He snarls, letting the demonic features come to the front. ]

[He has to admit to a certain satisfaction at seeing Spike desperate enough to change into game face. It's like it gives him permission to go for the fight he's aching for. After all, it's all very well re-ensouling a vampire to try and neuter him, but since he's not a witch it doesn't actually leave him an awful lot to do.

So he doesn't even bother holding back a grin at the sight of that raised brow and elongated teeth. He just gets into a fighting stance, knees bent, feet apart, centre of gravity low, and beckons Spike on.]

Fine. Come and get it.

[He is, of course, armed with a stake and a gun, but he doesn't bother going for either yet. Though he is kind of interested to see how Spike reacts when he gets close to the fucking big crucifix he's wearing round his neck under his shirts.]

[ Cornering him like this is possibly the worst thing you can do — he's not afraid of retreating when he has a clear path but now there's no way out unless he wants a fight and seeing as Jack is itching for it... who would he be to deny him the pain?

Grinning wildly he lunges for Jack, keeping low and making an attempt to knock him down on his back. ]

[Jack actually laughs when Spike finally goes for him, even if he doesn't manage to sidestep quite quickly enough, so Spike catches his side and sends him staggering sideways under Spike's weight. It's not quite enough to send him to the floor, but he ends up in the corner of the room, putting a hand out to brace himself upright again and kicking and shoving at Spike with his feet and other hand to try and throw him off.]

Have to do better than that, fangface!

Only just got started!

[ He growls, letting some of those kicks and shoves land in an attempt to find an opening or at least get close enough to retaliate. There's a desperation in his movements and although that doesn't bode well for his ability to plan ahead, it does add a brutality to the blows. ]

[Feeling his fists and boots connect with flesh is immensely satisfying, and Jack laughs again, a little bit wild. He shoves off the wall and starts pushing Spike back, aiming a nasty kick up between his legs (because, after all, it worked last time!) to distract him while he reaches into his pocket for one of the little bottles of water he got Sam to bless for him.]

[ Kick him in the balls once, shame on you. Kick him in the balls for the ninth time, shame on him. Reflexes sparking into action with a white-hot sense of urgency, Spike moves out of the way for the kick but although it doesn't connect, the sheer possibility that it might is eating up all his focus. It leaves him open and vulnerable, much more distracted than he has any desire to be. ]

[Jack loses his balance when the kick doesn't land, staggering a bit, but he wrenches the holy water out of his pocket anyway and flips the lid up with his thumb, thrusting its contents towards Spike. He was aiming for the face, because he's not sure how well it works on covered skin, but he stumbles as he throws and only a little splashes onto Spike's face, most of it hitting the beloved leather coat instead.

He staggers backwards out of range, hoping the surprise of it will at least give him time to regroup.]

[ It may as well have been a bottle of acid that he just threw with the way it hisses on contact with Spike's skin, tendrils of smoke rising from his face and hands. The coat protects him well enough but water has a habit of dripping and it's near impossible to keep it away from his skin. He howls in pain, ducking his head and moving away from Jack just so he can get a chance to not be on fire. ]

[Jack stays back for the moment, just watching, fascinated. He hadn't really known what to expect, and this is just... amazing. He grins down at the little bottle in his hand. Thank you, Sam. Then he chucks it aside and strides toward Spike, grabbing a handful of that stiffly gelled hair and smirking into his face.]

Right. Going to be a good boy now and sit still while you're waiting for your soul to find you?

[Well, Kitty will be mad if he doesn't give Spike a chance to behave. Even though he knows the way he's phrased it, there's no way in hell Spike will take that option.]

[ He snarls and spits as Jack grabs him, half-blinded by pain and the sizzling water that's still on his skin. A part of him wants to kick and punch and bite until there's nothing left of Jack but a wet mess on the floor, while another, albeit smaller but much more noticeable part is starting to give up. It doesn't matter what he does. If they have his soul — and he suspects that might be true, with the tingles running down his spine — he can kill half the dome and still not escape.

If he hadn't been tricked in here, if he had only been able to reach the witches circle, if if if- ]

Go to hell, Jack. They like people like you down there.

[Well, that's no fun. He wants a fight, not Spike snivelling in a corner. He smirks.]

Actually, they don't like me there. They keep sending me back.

[He lets go of Spike's hair with a shove, and takes a step back, pretty much dancing with restless energy. He's all revved up and if this is the last chance he's going to get to tussle with Spike (because that is the idea, after all) he wants to make it count.]

Come on, Spike, that all you're going to give me? You're not giving up, are you?

That's a shame. I know plenty of demons who'd have a blast picking you to pieces! [ The lack of satisfaction at threatening very real hell dimensions to someone who doesn't even know what you're talking about is a great one.

He stumbles back at the shove but catches himself quick enough, aiming a vicious glare at Jack across the room. There's something sickeningly sadistic about this whole setup. Unsportsmanlike, not unlike waiting in the hallway with a baseball bat. The Slayer would never have done that and her entire existence was aimed towards killing off scum like him — but she wasn't cruel. Never cruel. She knew the rules and she played by them just as much as he did and that is exactly what he's been missing since Buffy disappeared. No one around here knows the steps to the dance they've been dancing for millennia and now this poofed up hero is getting his rocks off on torture.

Disgusting. ]

Angelus would've loved you. [ He spits, pacing restlessly but not attacking. Not giving you the satisfaction, Jack. ]

[Jack definitely plays by a different set of rules to the Slayer. There's always been something a little sadistic and ruthless about Torchwood and, however much Jack likes to think he's better than them, he has it too. Even though it might not be showing quite so much if he wasn't being affected by that pretty little red pearl he picked up.

And perhaps not so much either if Spike hadn't shown himself to enjoy sparring, whether verbal or physical, on every previous occasion. It's not so sadistic if they both get a kick out of it, is it?

But Spike's not fighting now, and Jack doesn't know enough about Angelus to really get the point of that last comment. He frowns across the room at Spike, vaguely disappointed.]

You're really not going to fight back? What happened to "You think a wooden door can hold me?"

[ It was different back then. An even playing field, both of them had the possibility of backing off and in the very beginning, there was a possibility of something mutually beneficial growing between them. Those times are long gone though. A lifetime away and the look he gives Jack in this moment is one of nothing but hatred and disgust, a defiant glare from a man who's just waiting for the axe to drop. ]

What does it matter? I kill you, you bounce back. I get out, your lit'le Scooby gang lie in wait and even if I wash the floor with their blood I can't outrun a soul. [ He snarls, clenching and unclenching his fists. ] You have it all figured out, don't you Jack? So why don't you get your jollies while you can still justify it as the right bloody thing.

[Jack gives him an odd look, and some of the fight goes out of him, too. Trying to goad someone into a tussle is one thing, but beating up someone who really isn't going to fight back is quite another. He sighs a little, and takes another step back, folding his arms.]

Well, I guess it's nice to see you do have some sense, even without a soul. [Not that it's going to be long now before he does.] Now, if you'd only shown you could restrain yourself earlier, we might have been able to avoid all this!

[ His jaw sets at that, fury re-sparking in his eyes and damn if he doesn't want to tear Jack limb from limb, pull strip by strip of flesh of his bones until there's nothing left but a sticky paste. Watch him reassemble and then do the whole bloody thing again and again and again. It's the kind of hot white hatred that makes his hands shake. ]

I. Didn't. Kill anyone. [ This is what restraint is. Who knows how long he would've behaved if this whole thing hadn't escalated. ]
