Absit Omen: A Harry Potter RPG, Circa 2008

AO ad

Double, double toil and trouble;

It all started with the Remembering Day murders. Ex-Azkaban inmate Theodora Kingstreet, in the beginnings of a plot to remove the Minister of Magic, staged her own attack on the night of the Memorial Ceremony. The result was the death of two innocent aurors and the framing of an innocent student for murder. These events led to the resignation of the Hogwarts Headmaster, Knox Greyfriar, leaving the prestigious position open for grabs. Meanwhile, the Head of the Department of Mysteries, Analiza Snark, is trying to get funding for her mysterious Project 492: The wizarding world's ultimate weapon.

Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

When Minister Annwyl rejects her idea, Snark is forced to seek another place to develop it without the Ministry looking over her shoulder: Hogwarts. She seizes the position of Headmistress and in order to continue her work unhindered, she redirects attention elsewhere- towards Olivia Foley, a fifth-year Hufflepuff and known werewolf. Snark expels Ollie for her condition, causing an uproar among some professors and students, who gather to form a werewolf rights group known as SAWS. To remain in power, she hires student Devlin Matthews to sabotage SAWS and frame them for vandalism against the school, drawing more attention away from her real goals. To make matters worse, in the shadows other factions are beginning to move, from the sinister aspirations of the Wizarding Blood Alliance to the mysterious artifact brought back by the Ancient Runes professor and its ties to an ancient wizarding cult.

Double, double toil and trouble

Will Analiza's weapon be successful or will it be discovered before fruition? Will SAWS regain their reputation and put an end to the discrimination of werewolves or will they unintentionally start a war? What will the future truly hold? No one knows. All they can do is keep their heads held high, eyes forward and a silent prayer on their lips: "Absit Omen: Let there be no evil here."

Something wicked this way comes...

1978 had been a brutal and bloody year. The Dark Mark was a regular appearance, families were torn apart and storefronts were closing down because witches stopped shopping for fear of their lives. Each issue of the Daily Prophet seemed to be filled with portents of misfortune. Another death. Another Dark Mark lighting up the sky. Another missing persons poster on the lampposts of Diagon. The signs of the war, so easily overlooked previously, were becoming impossible to ignore. The wizarding community became painfully aware that the next body in the morgue could be their own.

It grew difficult to stay neutral. Some managed to remain unaffiliated, while others split on either side of a stark division. The Death Eaters were on a quest for the domination of purity, led by a power-hungry Dark Lord. The Order of the Phoenix was a guerrilla group to the Death Eater's organized ranks, taking them out in secret, attempting to neutralize the threats in the name of equality.

But what happens when the threat simply vanishes? Without Voldemort to lead the Death Eaters, will things be better or worse? Will the attacks stop or become more frequent, more deadly? And what of the Order? Sensing the fading threat, will they dissolve into obscurity, splintering off to live their own lives, or will they remain a unit, ready to defend against the return of darkness?

1978 is nearing a close. What will the next year hold?

"Just picture coming home and finding the Dark Mark hovering over your house, and knowing what you’re about to find inside... Everyone’s worst fear...the very worst."
—Arthur Weasley

Plus 28 Days - Post DH End of World RPG

On October 31st, 1999, a group of eco-terrorists released a biological weapon at every major airport in the world. 48 hours later, the true nature of the weapon became clear. The infected became violent, infecting others through bites and scratches. 50 hours after the first contagion was released, governments across the globe initiated states of emergency. Sites were designated as shelters with troops and Aurors sent to protect those sites at all costs.

Radio broadcasts gave the locations of the Ministry of Magic and Buckingham Palace as 'safe spots' but they were really processing centers screening out the infected and sending the uninfected via the Floo network to hidden shelters. Those lucky enough to find shelter must now wait it out – the 28 long days for the infected to starve to death or kill each other in their madness. Then they will have the unenviable task of rebuilding society and the world.

Plus 28 Days is a Post DH HP-based RPG began on October 31st, 2009. We have a small, friendly, active core cast. Currently, our "most wanted" include Ron Weasley, George Weasley, Blaise Zabini, Hannah Abbott, Lavender Brown, Dean Thomas and Bill Weasley.

Is that darkness, or is that hope?
The year is 1976, and the marauders have entered their sixth year. There has been talk in pureblood families of a 'Dark Lord', a man who's sole interest is purifying the wizarding world of muggles and muggleborns. He has enlisted the help of Hogwarts students, staff, and men living in Hogsmeade. With these minions, Lord Voldemort has already attacked many muggleborns, blood traitors, and Hogwarts. With the increasing attacks on Hogwarts, Headmaster Dumbledore has been given few options. After a muggleborn's death, the Headmaster has decided to lock the school. The Ministry of Magic has sent Hogwarts four aurors to help protect students and screen mail. No one gets in, and no one gets out. For now, Hogwarts has been at a lull - but how long will it last? Many students believe the attacks are coming from within Hogwarts, and fear the worst.

What are the students to do? Headmaster Dumbledore has come up with the only possibly solution - he needs help. He needs a group of trusted people to fight back, and so begins the Order of the Phoenix. Slowly but surely these young witches and wizards will be trained to fight and protect themselves.

In September 1979, at the height of the first war, the Death Eaters assassinated the Minister of Magic and took over the wizarding government. Two years of terrorism followed, until that fateful Halloween night in 1981, when the Dark Lord vanished, Lily and James Potter died, and Harry Potter was left a scarred orphan.

The war was over, but the consequences of those two years the Death Eaters spent in power were just beginning. After claiming to have been Imperiused, most of the Death Eaters retained their positions of power within the Ministry. They headed nearly every Department, from Magical Law Enforcement to International Cooperation to the Department of Mysteries. There was no escaping the arm of the Dark Lord, even after he was declared dead.

The Death Eaters tried to retain the laws that had been passed during those two years, and the Order of the Phoenix tried to use its influence to push progression and equality. Neither side overtook the other, and even though the Wizarding World thought the war was over, the real battle raged as they fought for control of the government.

But in June 1998, Voldemort returned to the world stage. His first act was to find the prophecy that had eluded him for so long, and he attacked the Ministry of Magic. The raid was a success, and in the chaos, Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge was killed.

Ex-Auror Caradoc Dearborn was declared Minister of Magic. Finally the Order had what it wanted; power over the Ministry. But with the Death Eaters still running every Department, there is little they can do to help stop the war.

It has been seventeen years since the last war, but the battle for England has only just begun.

The Beauxbatons castle lies in southeast France, on the Mediterranean coast. The glittering castle looks more like a palace, and only the best are picked to attend. The food is delicious, the weather is fair, the girls are pretty, and the boys are handsome. Beauxbatons is the ideal school for parents to ship their children off to and expect them to come back in their finest condition.

Students are expected to honor their teachers and ultimately dedicate themselves to their studies. Anything less than extraordinary is unacceptable. The rules are strict, but somehow they manage to continuously be broken. Often boys can be caught sneaking into the girls' dormitory and vice versa. Punishments are harsh, but that's why you don't get caught.

In reality, in Beauxbatons, scandal is dreaded far more than disease, reputation is the utmost of importance and where you stand in your social circle ultimately decides your future. The girls are catty, the boys are cocky and everyone has skeletons in their closets. The Dining Chamber (Beauxbatons equivalent of the Great Hall) is gossip central, people yearn and dread to be talked about. It all depends on who you are, what clique you're in and how you carry yourself. All the pieces match up, and if you happen to be the one that doesn't fit in, prepare for the worst time of your life, you live with these people, after all.

They are coming...
...but it's not who you think

For decades, muggles have known about the world of wizards, but like the existence of aliens, this knowledge was kept a secret from society at large. While government officials still collected data about this strange race, they decided to 'live and let live' and to leave them all in peace. But then the blatant attacks of the Death Eaters got out of control. The wizarding population as a whole was blamed, and it was decided that something had to be done.

May 1, 1998, was a day that would go down in both muggle and wizarding infamy. Years of quietly studying and experimenting on willing muggleborn subjects were finally put to use.

They attacked.

Wizards, engulfed in a civil war, a battle between dark and light, were wholly unprepared for this assault, and were easily infiltrated and taken down. Many of their numbers died in the attack, while others, including the Dark Lord and the Boy Who Lived were captured.

It is now two years later, December of 2000, and the wizarding world as it once was is no more. But there are those out there, renegade wizards who escaped the initial attacks, who are determined to reclaim what is rightfully theirs and save their race from extinction.

Who will win the second fight?

The Wizarding World has seen its fair share of suffering, such as the reign of Lord Voldemort that occurred not once, but twice. But, as it was foreseen, good triumphed over evil and the world gained peace. It seemed to be everlasting for witches and wizards everywhere, a great relief to those who feared the worst in the midst of rebuilding. Twenty-five years later, someone now threatens to destroy the peace that has come to be, though not in such a way that would strike fear in the general public. It's much worse: Hogwarts has a new Headmaster and the students aren't going to like him.

Tiberius Ogden was just appointed the position of Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the summer, the former Headmaster, Matthew Harrison, having abruptly retired when he suddenly came upon a very large sum of money. The Ogden name is famous for its liquor, though Tiberius has no interest in making drunks out of his peers. No, Tiberius Ogden followed another path, one of strict behavior that came with wielding a firm hand rather than a tap. A retired Hit Wizard, Tiberius has known a life of hardship and determination and believes that today's youth are becoming weak-minded prats. As a way to change this, he quickly took up the position Headmaster Harrison wished to discard.

Students will be in for quite the shock when they return to school to have their yearly start of term feast. Not only are they receiving a new Headmaster, but he comes with a whole new set of rules - rules so numerous in count that a book of them was created - something each student will find at their seat.

Will your student follow the rules or say Bugger All! to them?

You open your eyes to darkness. The air smells stale and confined. Lifting a hand, you feel glass, smooth and curved. Instinctively, your heart beats faster. A tentative push and it rises away from you, swinging to the side. Light filters in through windows above. You blink, your eyes adjusting to the shadowed room as you try to remember what happened.

A thin layer of dust covers everything. There are no panes of glass in the windows. The virus. You remember now. They told you stasis was a precaution. Only a few weeks. A month, at best. Let them get the virus under control.

Standing beside your pod, legs shaking from disuse, you feel a sense of apprehension creeping over you. Your heart beats even faster now. A table nearby has a pile of scrolls on it and, with a sense of foreboding, you cross to find the one with your initials on it.

~~~ The year is 2100. ~~~
Waking Pandora is an AU, post-apocalyptic Harry Potter RPG based partially on the History Channel series Life after People. One hundred years after humanity is destroyed by a Muggle-made virus, people - magical and muggle - are waking up in the stasis pods that had been humanity's bid for survival.
Armed with only a small pack of things, your wits, and limited initial magical ability, you must learn to not only survive but also rebuild the world, brick by brick, and child by child. Anything is possible in Waking Pandora.
Ask yourself this: Do you want to be a vital part of an RPG that is more than just commonplace and routine? Where the world you build is literally the new world of humanity and players can participate as much as they want? Then Waking Pandora is the place for you.
Wake up to a world where Hope and the future is what you make of it. Waking Pandora
2031 is a time of peace and exploration for the wizarding world, at least until the murder of Ginny Potter leaves her family heartbroken and wishing for the opportunity to bring her back. To everyone but the Unspeakables in the Department of Mysteries, no such thing exists.
But Albus Potter knows better, and activates a device know as 'tractus' with the intent to prevent his mothers death. Instead, he is given the chance to prevent the deaths of people far more important when he lands in August 1981.
In the present day, 2007, a History of Magic textbook would tell you that Voldemort was defeated on October 31, 1981 by Albus Dumbledore during the Battle of Godric's Hollow. It would also tell you that dozens of Death Eaters were put into prison, and in the clean-up process that members of the Order of the Phoenix became those who the rest of Britain looked to for leadership and assurance. To this world, Harry Potter is only known for his quidditch skills, Sirius Black never went to Azkaban, and Neville eats dinner with his parents every Thursday night in his childhood home.
What they don't know is that it hadn't always been this way.
Strangers begin to appear, all from 2031 and all with information that contradicts life in Wizarding Britain for the past 26 years. And just when it seems it can't get any worse, Dark Marks begin to paint the sky.
