Firefly

Fandom: Firefly
Series: Glue
Author: Rebecca ([info]blueraccoon)
Genre: Slash, Drama, Angst, First Time, Hurt/Comfort
Pairing: Mal/Simon
Rating: PG - NC17
Warnings: BCSM, Dom/sub, Fisting
Spoilers: None, really

Notes: I usually go looking for Mal/Jayne when I look at Firefly fic, but since this was Rebecca, I thought I'd read at least the first one, and see if I wanted to read more.  I finished the entire series that night, and was sad it was over.  Then I read it again.  And today, I decided to rec it, and re-read it again...just looking for warnings and such I might have forgotten...or something like that, yeah, that's it....

As usual with Rebecca, it's not an easy journey, but it works for me.  The main pairing in the series may be Mal and Simon, but pretty much all the characters are represented.  And they all fit.  If it weren't for the sex and stuff, this could be an episode - or several episodes, really.  It's all about how everyone fits into the crew, the way they fit together is like a jigsaw, according to River, and Mal and Simon are missing pieces that the other can fill.  The whole crew is like that, really, they just fit.  And Rebecca makes it work, and makes it enjoyable to read at the same time.

Sequel Title: The Shiver Trilogy: Predator, Shiver, Frenzy
Sequel Author: Ellex ([info]ellex42)
Genre: Slash, First Time, Drama, Angst, Hurt/Comfort
Pairing: Sheppard/McKay
Rating: NC17
Warnings: Dark, BDSM, Violence
Spoilers: Season Two - general mentions of Ronon

Notes: Wow.  When the [info]sga_flashfic's Shark Challenge came up, those of us who like our fic a little on the dark side got lucky.  Not only did [info]magus_minor write an excellent trilogy but more than one person took her up on the opportunity to write their own fic based on hers.  They're all good, but [info]ellex42's trilogy is just as good, if not better than the originals.  Okay, so my bias is showing...there are really only two problems with the first three: they're too short, and there's not enough sex.   You know me.  I always go for the sex - especially when it's kinky sex.  And it's definitely kinky sex.

In the first trilogy, Magus Minor sets up the premise:  John just happens to be a lot darker than people think...he's a sadist, and he enjoys it, although he tries hard to hide it, for obvious reasons.   I can't explain how because it would be a big time spoiler, but Rodney finds out.  The first trilogy leaves us there, without a real resolution - which is why, I'm sure, that Magus Minor threw out the invitation to others to write their own sequels.  And here's where Ellex comes in.  She takes that premise, and has Rodney turn the tables on John, and let me tell you - it's hot as hell.  I'm not going to say any more, you'll just have to read them and find out for yourself.

Oh, yeah...I honestly can't tell you how happy it made me to have Magus Minor use Mac the Knife to tie her three fic together.  I love The Threepenny Opera.  And another thing: Ellex's Frenzy was written for the 2006 version of the Kink and Cliche Challenge.  Damn but that challenge has had some good shit come out of it!

NCIS

Fandom: NCIS
Series: Applied Psychology
Author: Rebecca ([info]blueraccoon)
Genre: Slash, Het, Angst, Drama, Smut, First Time, Hurt/Comfort
Pairing: Gibbs/Abby, Gibbs/Abby/Tony, Gibbs/Tony
Rating: NC17
Warnings: BDSM, Dom/sub, bondage
Spoilers: At least through Frame Up, Season 3, Episode 9

Notes: There may be those of you out there wondering why I'm rec'ing a series that (for the first three parts, at least) is exclusively Het.  Yeah, I'm wondering that myself.  Well, no, I'm not really wondering - there are a bunch of good reasons: Rebecca wrote it; it's BDSM, with a heavy dose of Dom/sub; it's not only got Gibbs in it, but it's got Abby, too.  Those are all pretty damn good reasons on their own.  And then, she brings Tony into the mix in Control Theory and okay, I'm hooked.   I tried to fight it.  I didn't read any of them for the longest time, but I finally sucumbed, and here I am, the very next week, rec'ing it for the second week in a row.  (I rec'd it last Wednesday, in my Smut Day post, so some of you may have seen this already.  Sorry.)

This rec has taken forever to write.  Why, you ask?  Because as I added each fic to the listing above, I re-read it.  Yeah.  I couldn't help myself.  Well, that just means it really must belong here, right?  Since I only rec fic I'm willing to read more than once.  It definitely belongs here.  There's a very strong D/s theme, and you know by now how I feel about that.   And I absolutely adore Abby, so this series really makes me happy all the way around.  When she added Tony into the mix, Rebecca added a good dollop of angst and a plot line that extends past the bedroom.  Not essential for me, but it makes things interesting.  I love fic that are focused around Tony; I find his character fascinating, so that's even a bigger plus.

Jeez - I can't thing of anything about these fic that I don't like (well, except for that icky het thing, but hey, for Abby, I can even go for some het - I can deal with that.)  So I suggest you try them for yourself, and Enjoy!

ETA: The link at the top of the page is to the tag to the Applied Psychology Series on Rebecca's Journal. She has recently aquired a website and has added more fic to this series, but for some reason, I can't link to the page that has all of her Applied Psychology fic listed. So here's a link to the first one (Pavlovian Response), and they are linked together after that. Or you can go to her main NCIS page and on the right at the bottom, right above the link to the "60 Seconds" pieces is the link to the Applied Psychology Series.

X-Files

Fandom: X-Files
Title: The Adversary
Author: Xanthe ([info]xanthelj)
Genre: Slash, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Drama, AU, Novel Length
Pairing: Mulder/OMC, Mulder/Others, Mulder/Skinner
Rating: NC17
Warnings: NonCon, Rape, Torture - Physical and Psychological, BDSM, Bondage, Extreme Violence
Spoilers: Don't remember any.

Notes:  This is an extremely intense story. It was the first fic I'd read by Xanthe, and one of the earliest X-Files stories I'd ever read.  It pretty much defined Mulder Bashing for me. But as hard as it was to read, I couldn't stop.  I'd pretty much figured out the whole deal about Mulder's lover from grad school, so that wasn't a big deal to reveal, but hey.  What's just one more step on the way to Mulder's eventual capitulation.  And from the way he was treated, I couldn't see it going down any other way.

Even so, I kept telling myself how smart Mulder was, and how he could manage to keep his sanity throughout this whole breaking down process; and the fact that he managed to continue to work his way into his Adversary's mind at the same time gave me hope...albeit a very small amount.  By the time it's over, you'll be blinking your eyes and shaking your head, too.  I know I was.  It's the case of the car accident that you just can't look away from as you drive past.  So you back up and park, get out of the car and go poking around.  You just can't help yourself.

About the AU.  Something in Mulder's past is changed, but it does not effect the present day of the fic.  Mulder still works for Skinner and his partner is still Scully.  The Cigarette Smoking Man is there turning the screws as usual, and the Rat Bastard is hanging out, being totally unpredictable - also as usual.   If you don't mind a bit of torture, you've got a solid stomach, and you like a lot of Mulder Torture - this is the fic for you.  And no, I don't know what it says about me, that I've read this one more than once...well, more than twice, okay?

Original Fiction

Fandom:  Original Fiction
Series: The Administration Series
Author: Manna  ([info]ms_manna)
Genre:  SciFi, Mostly Slash, Some Het, Angst, Action/Adventure, Hurt/Comfort, First Time
Pairing: Val Toreth/Keir Warrick
Rating: G through NC17
Warnings: BDSM, Non-Con, "Issues of Consent", Violence, Torture, mention of Child Abuse

Notes:  This is a large series, with 3 novels, 3 novelas and 27 short stories. If that seems a bit daunting, I don't blame you.  Do what I did and take the author's advice:  The first six chapters of the first  novel (Mind Fuck), make a great short story called Virtual.  It introduces you to the characters, gives you some time with them, and if you aren't into them enough to keep reading, you can stop there.  If you are, there's a link to Chapter Seven at the end of Virtual.  You don't have to miss a beat, just keep reading.

The world Manna has created is dark and disturbing, but at the same time, fascinating.  The characters are intriguing, and a complex mix of good and bad.  You love Val Toreth, even though sometimes you just want to smack him  a good one upside the head, and you root for Keir, even while you know he's going to make the wrong move, fall in love with the wrong guy...  As crazy as it is, you want those two to be together.  The plots are complicated and fascinating, the short pieces great glimpses into their lives, and the lives of their friends and families.  I avoided this series for a long time, thinking it was too big a project to take on - but believe me, once you've started, you'll want to read more.

Title: Congealed
Author: Kres  ([info]kres)
Genre: Slash, Angst, Hurt/Comfort?
Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Rating: NC17
Warnings: BDSM, Dark, Very Intense Consensual Violence
Spoilers: None

Notes: This is one of the hardest fics to describe - it's quite short, which is good, I think, because if it were longer, it might be too much to deal with.  But it gets the point across in a minimum of words.  No whips and chains involved, here, but the violence is shockingly real, and intense, and the first time I read this fic, I had to sit there and digest it for a bit.  Then I had to read it again.   Then I went and friended Kres, so I didn't miss anything else.  This one still blows me away, everytime I read it.

Title: Out of the Dark
Author: Kassandra
Genre: Slash, Some Het, Case File, Novel-length, First Time, Action/Adventure, Angst
Pairing/Characters: Skinner/Mulder, Mulder/OC, Mulder/Others, Mulder/Scully Friendship
Rating: NC17
Warnings: BDSM, Dom/sub, Bondage, Violence, Fisting, Kink, Non-Con, Questionable Consent
Spoilers: None?

Notes:
Mulder is going over the deep end.  Trouble at work, trouble with his partner who seems to be slipping away from him more every day.  He needs a break - a way to escape the inside of his own head for a while.  When Frohike sets him up for the vacation of his life at a sexual Fantasy Island, he thinks he may have just found the way to make it work.  But instead he finds himself getting sucked further and further into a lifestyle he can't keep up with and still maintain his sanity.   When things take a turn into danger, he ends up relying on Skinner, of all people, to help him sort out the mess his life has become, and find a way to separate himself from the obsessions that attract him, and could lead to his death.

This is a novel length fic, and I got so absorbed into it, that I finished it, and immediately turned around and read it again.  The characters were believeable, and well written - especially the original characters, even the villians, and I'll be damned if there isn't one hell of a lot of very erotic sex in this fic, too.  But be aware, most of the sex has some elements of D/s, bondage or other BDSM practices, although most of it goes no further than tethers and blindfolds.  However there is enough that goes past that to warn you about it.  And there's a fair amount of questional consent issues, as well.

So you know...this is the fic that got me going in the X-Files Fandom.  I'd watched the show off and on, nothing much, but the fic I'd read all featured Krycek, and although I liked him, I didn't really get the Mulder/Krycek vibe.  Well, I found the vibe that does work...Skinner/Mulder and throwing in some Dom/sub issues will cinch the deal for me pretty much every time.   And it's all Kassandra's fault.

Notes: Written for the [info]sga_flashfic challenge "slavefic." It's not often that a fic leaves me speechless in just 1575 words, but shalott has done it here.  This fic just blows me away, everytime I read it.   The cliche Aliens Made Them Do It is actually accurate, but it's not a cliche fic.  It may use that as a premise, but it's far from cliche.  It's a powerfully moving story.

Title: Setting The Scene
Author: Rebecca  ([info]blueraccoon)
Genre: Slash, First Time, Angst, Case File
Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo
Rating: NC17
Warnings: Dom/sub, Light Bondage
Spoilers: None

Notes:  During a  murder investigation involving BDSM, Tony reveals a bit more knowledge of "The Scene" than the rest of the crew expects.  One of the best parts of the story is the way Kate reacts to  Tony's revelations.  I like how casual Tony is about it all, because being up tight and secretive would have played right into Kate's uptight attitude. I'm always more interested in the personal stories than I am in the casefiles, but this has a bit of both - which is pretty cool. There's an interesting Original Character, which I actually would have liked to see more of. And of course it's a first time fic - my favorite. Written for the Kink and Cliche Challenge, and Rebecca's cliche prompt?  A stressful case rattles the detectives and/or clues them in.  And her kink prompt?  Handcuffs.  She managed to work both in one story.  Go her.
