Who: Logan and Rogue
What: Finding his girl
When: Some time after this
Where: Not in Everett
Warnings: Language, Logan's thoughts/rage in the beginning. Angst. Lots of angst.
Logan was not in a good mood. No, in fact, he was horribly pissed the fuck off mood. Ever since he had been notified that Rogue had gone missing, Logan had started going through the entire goddamn town in an effort to find her. He didn't care what that guy on the network had told him, about how he shouldn't go searching alone, and how he shouldn't approach her, or whatever the hell he had tried to warn him about. He needed to find her. He needed to make sure that Rogue was safe, and that she wasn't hurt.
It sure as hell didn't help that the man on the network had told him about how something had been wrong with her. She hadn't been herself. How had he not seen it? Logan did a good job at patrolling the area around the prison, make sure that nothing would be a threat to her that way and tried to check in every now and then, but he should have kept a closer eye on her. He was already angry at the entire situation, but knowing that he could have done something but hadn't pissed him off even more. In some ways he had tried to not be too overbearing, trying to show her that he didn't think she was a kid like when they had met. Yeah, he still saw her as a kid - as his kid, in so many ways - but fuck. Fuck. The idea that she had gone missing, or that something could have happened to her when he could have done something to stop it would sometimes knock the air right out of him as the thought barreled in his head. The guilt was unforgiving, but he used it to just push him forward. It made him more determined to find her, to help her.
To bring her home.
Not the prison, no. Logan was already planning on taking her back with him to his cabin. He was going to keep an eye on all his girls. Emily and Laura had been helping him look for Rogue already, had immediately joined him in searching, but he already wanted to just lock them up in the cabin to make sure that nothing happened to them, either. His overprotective instinct was out in full force, but that was something else that he used to help him. It sharpened every instinct, and made him almost rabid with anger as each day passed. Because how could it be possible that she wasn't there? No news, no signs, no trail, nothing. Just nothing, and it was a wonder that the forest in Everett was still standing considering his mood.
Since Everett was already covered, though, he decided to expand his search. He and the girls split up so they could cover more ground as they crossed the city lines, and they just agreed to check back in later on. They each had great tracking skills, Logan and Laura because that was how they were wired and Emily since she was a vampire, so he had to hold onto some sort of hope that it would help. He wasn't much for hoping, never for himself because when you lived and lost as much as he had it was hard to keep up that damn belief up, but for his girls... For his girls, it was different. He had to find her, because he refused to find a body in her place. He refused to never see her again, not with a disappearance like that.
During one of his searches he caught it. He wasn't sure where he was, exactly, since reading city signs wasn't really his thing when he was essentially tearing through anything in his way to find a good lead, but he had caught her scent suddenly. It was faint at first, so faint that he wondered if he was just imagining it, but he followed it anyway. He could feel his heart speed up as he broke the distance and the scent kept getting stronger and stronger, and if he didn't know any better he'd swear that he felt it just stop when he finally saw her at a distance.
Except, she wasn't alone. There was someone that was with her, and it made him pause at first. Later on he would kick himself for pausing, for hesitating, but he quickly began moving towards her again when he saw that she was reaching out to her companion with an ungloved hand. "Rogue? Rogue!" His throat was dry, so damn dry, but he somehow managed to make his voice louder nonetheless as he rushed towards her even faster so he could stop her before she got too far. "Marie!"
