Why he had persisted that he wanted to, and could, bring Shannon cherry cordial ice cream, Kirley didn’t rightfully know. It was the first day he’d spent completely sober since the incident with Don and his big mouth, and he hadn’t actually emerged from his flat for more than just a spot of grocery shopping or absolute necessity in days. While he knew it was all in good fun for everyone else, it had hit a bit of a sore spot for Kirley, and he didn’t want to acknowledge it. Leigh was probably the only one that understood his sudden surly attitude, but he just wanted the whole ordeal to die off. It had gotten a little bit better on the journals, but he was still getting fan mail by the great gooey gobs filled with either sentiments of how sorry they were that everyone was being so crude or with volunteering of their services (complete with naughty pictures for ‘preliminary viewing.’ He sent the rest of them to be sorted by someone else and told them to toss any mention of the ‘incident’ in the rubbish bin immediately.
So why he was standing in the supermarket picking up a gallon of his favorite brand of cherry cordial ice cream boiled down to the fact that he’d somehow ended up with a date...or at least, it seemed like it might be. Joking around about it had turned into a serious kind of joke, and while at first he had considered just owling her a package, he was going in person. He remembered the girl from some photo shoots, though he’d never gotten to talk to her much, and never caught more than her first name. He gathered that she and Leigh were friends, but he was so caught up in all of the commotion that he didn’t think about it more than that, really. So when she’d asked him about pistachio...well, he’d just gone with the flow. Kirley was actually quite nervous though, as he got closer and closer to leaving the grocery and going to meet Shannon.
Perhaps it would be nothing at all, perhaps they would just eat some ice cream and chat politely...or perhaps they wouldn’t. He didn’t really know what would happen, and even with all of the time he had spent around women in his lifetime, dating was not exactly his forte. He began to fret...what if he actually ended up liking this girl and she thought he was a silly guitar-obsessed prat? After leaving the store, he walked for a short bit and then disapparated with a pop, but he didn’t knock on the door immediately. Instead, he paced just out of the way, placing a charm on the ice cream to keep it cold, and smoking his way through a cigarette to calm his nerves. He took a deep breath and told himself that he’d do this properly if he just stayed calm. With that, he snubbed out his cigarette, and with the ice cream he’d promised, he knocked on the door.
