Okay, I get most of this. Portals to other worlds. We're stuck in a small town in Maine with no mall. We can't leave. There's a girl who looks like my best friend but isn't a shapeshifting alien.

I just have one question.

Who broke magic?

I mean...seriously. What did you do?

No one broke magic, I assure you. It's... Different here.

I'm sorry. When portals start showing up out of nowhere and there's a barrier keeping people in, that means someone did something to make it happen.

And considering I can normally go between worlds and now I can't, something is wrong.

It was accidental. Using magic in this realm has had unforeseen consequences. I assume it's different from where you come from as well, hence your failure to use it normally.

Well, it's really unfortunate, but I guess it could be worse.

So, you mentioned getting jobs. What about all the teenagers, since there seem to be quite a few of us. At least one has her dad here, but are a bunch of sixteen and seventeen year olds really expected to just fend for themselves. Some of us can probably handle it, but I know some probably can't. Especially if we're all still stuck here when school rolls around again.

Unfortunately we have no control over whether or not minors are pulled through the portals. We'll be working on a solution to that problem, thank you so much for your concern.

I was just asking. I know this is a new thing for you guys, but I figured it might not have occurred to anyone yet.

Has anyone told you you're kind of defensive?

I generally don't accept commentary from the peanut gallery. So, no.

See, more defensiveness. I'm trying to be helpful.

Nobody's actually going to come to you if you act like everyone is your enemy.

Oh god, you're one of those people who has all these problems and constantly blames other people instead of considering you might cause at least some of your own problems, aren't you?

Excuse me? How old are you - fifteen?

Seventeen.

An I've found age doesn't really mean all that much in the grand scheme of things.

Yes, that's certainly something the very young believe.

Funny thing about belief, at least where I'm concerned.

If I believe something, it almost always comes true.

So back to sensible questions, and away from general creepiness and defensiveness is there a handy guide to the laws in this town/reality? I'm mostly curious about on thing in particular, but it can't hurt to read up.

Storybrooke's town code is both online and available to read at city hall. You can also read Maine's constitution, statutes, and laws at maine.gov.

Thank you. Though I guess I could just ask the pointed question.

Same-sex couples. What's Maine's stance in this reality, and I guess Storybrooke's since technically right now we're cut off from the rest of Maine and potentially functioning as an autonomous government.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Maine since 2012 and Storybrooke's stance is the same.
