Your onboarding is efficient, I’ll give you that.  Government red tape at home would’ve had me sitting in a waiting room and filling out forms for at least three days. And the apartment is, well. No offense, but it’s kind of ridiculous. I’ve spent months on entire spaceships smaller than that apartment. Your budget probably needs a massive overhau

Anyway. Uh I’ve never been very good at social media Thank you. For explaining the situation and telling me where to find Tennal Halkana. A few more days and he’d probably have charmed his way to the head of a gang or been exiled into the woods and tracking him down would’ve been a lot harder. I’m better at catching farm animals than people.

Oh. My name’s is Surit.  So. Yeah. Hello.

Oh uh It's common knowledge at home. There were people who were neuromodded to have mind control and mind reading abilities and their children sometimes inherited one of the abilities. It sounds like you don't have architects and readers here though.

Not going by that name, but several individuals have the abilities that you're describing. It's condoned by the government where you live?

Not exactly. It's illegal to read. And it's illegal to write without consent from the person being written. But I've learned the hard way that the military often breaks those laws. I've also learned that surfacing reading is like breathing for a reader, particularly a rank one, so making it illegal in the first place is cruel.

The form of mind control I'm familiar with is called gaeshing - the recipient of the gaesh is unable to disobey whatever orders they are given, at the risk of their own life. It's illegal where I come from as well, but the wealthy always have loopholes.

Sounds more deadly than ours. Some people can resist being read or written. Architects and readers in particular have natural defenses. It's temporary or permanent?

We do have more regular mindreading, and influence, but a gaesh is a special kind of awful. It can be broken, but will give permanent effects. To gaesh a person, you cut their soul in half. That kind of injury cannot heal.

My name is Thurvishar D'Lorus, and I work with the DOA. Welcome to Vallo. I tend to insert myself into any conversation related to the above topics; I hope you do not find me impolite.

Lights. That's awful. You said people here can do that?

Not at all. It's nice to meet you. I don't mind answering questions and I like to know what I'm dealing with in new situations as efficiently as possible.

As an example. There are extremely powerful people here, but thankfully, most of them are uninterested in demonstrations of their power on their fellow citizens. Outliers don't tend to get along well here. It was why I was being nosy - I wanted to know more about the attitude that came with being a reader, or an architect. As a telepath who was gaeshed, it's within my interests.

What did you do at home?
