Happy New Moon, assholes. This one's in Gemini during a Mercury retrograde, so fuck us, I guess (I took several astrology classes at my fancy magic school to break up the monotony of all the "don't eat your fellow students" classes).

...that's assuming the moon here is like the moon back home, which, fuck if I know.

Wait let me clarify: It was almost certainly bullshit AT HOME but here, I don't know, it's probably for real. A lot of things that were bullshit at home are real here so like, I don't wanna be a dick about things.

I think I've noticed that in the sky at home, there is a star I've tracked moving backwards from time to time, but never had a term for it.

It seems like as good of an excuse as any to blame things on.

Yeah, and stars don't care if you yell at them for causing you problems. So I mean, it works. Gonna have to pick your brain sometime about what you call the constellations. I'm sure it's different than what I do.

That they don't. As long as no one's using it as a reason to sacrifice people to this retrograde it seems like a harmless enough thing.

I imagine it would be. I found some information in the bunkers which contradicted the names we used. The sky here is different too.

I'm not gonna rule sacrifice out, but if it's happened, it's been a while.

I use the stars to navigate when I'm out camping, so I try to pay attention to them. You're right, there are some familiar things (like there's a northern star) but on the whole it's unfamiliar.

Hopefully nothing that happens here. It was not a pleasant thing to see happen where I'm from.

I've started tracking the night sky here as best I can. I can send you some notes if you'd like? And a few visuals. There's some I've noticed that so far seem to be consistent and some that seem to have no rhyme or reason.

That'd be great, yeah. Since the woods shift, I wouldn't be shocked if the sky does the same damn thing, but any constants you got - that'd be great.

Sending your way.

[ thom will get some files to download that include notes on placement of stationary or near stationary stars and a few images of the scans she took with her focus of the night sky over a few weeks. ]

It keeps you on your toes at least? The shifting woods. But some constants are nice to at least not get entirely lost.
